A male lyrebird at Healesville Sanctuary builds a display area and mimics bird calls, then shifts into rapid electronic beeps that sound exactly like Space Invaders. The bird copies whatever it hears around it, from natural sounds to human-made noise.

This morning while I was at Healesville Sanctuary, I got to see a show put on by the lyrebird. He is right now, you can see he's digging a little display area for himself, and once he's got that ready, he goes into full projection mode. Lyrebirds can imitate pretty much any sound that they hear, and this one has obviously heard a number of other birds. He starts by doing some bird noises And then he transitions into what I can only say sounds like a geisha game and looks like a game of Space Invaders. So have fun watching this and learning about the lyrebird. Well, I hope you found that enjoyable and that you learned as much as I did about the lyrebird and the amazing noises that he can make.
