Jesus washed his disciples' feet, and when Peter refused to let him, Jesus said Peter couldn't share in the cross without accepting God's service. The speaker argues communion is just a symbol unless you let God actually serve you.
Chapters
The meal means nothing if they don't understand this. And it was what he did when he came into the room and he saw the disciples sitting around. He saw the basin and the towel, and he put the towel over his shoulder, and he took his outer garment off so he was dressed as a servant. And he picked up the pitcher of water and the basin, and he went and he started to wash someone's feet. They said, Lord, what are you doing? He said, just preparing you. He gets to the next person, next person. When he gets to Peter, Peter said, "No way, you are not washing my feet. You are the God of the universe. You're not washing my feet." And Jesus said, "You don't understand. If I don't wash your feet, you don't understand. If I don't wash your feet, you have no part with me." And what Jesus meant was this: if you can't let the God of the universe serve you, you can't accept the cross.
