Welcome to Summer of Scripture on the Naked marriage podcast. For 66 days in a row, we are releasing a daily devotional episode for your marriage. And over these 66 days, we're going to pull out one scripture from each of the 66 books of the Bible and talk about how it applies to your marriage. So if you listen to every single one of these episodes, you're going to have a comprehensive understanding of God's plan for your marriage. We encourage you to listen to everyone. Let's dive into today's scripture.
Hello there and welcome back, you guys. We are in day 65. If you've been hanging with us this whole time, please go over and leave us a review. If you've loved this. If Summer of Scripture has made a difference in your walk with the Lord and in your marriage, we wanna know. We would love to hear from you and also spread this message. Even if people have not been following along in real time. Your friends can go and they can start this, you know, at day one and let it go into the fall. It doesn't matter. Any time of year. You can do this and grow in your knowledge of the Bible. And we hope that this has spurred some really good conversations for you and your spouse. But today, day 65, we are in Jude, chapter one, verse seven. It says this, and don't forget Sodom and Gomorrah and their neighboring towns which were filled with immorality and every kind of sexual perversion. Those cities were destroyed by fire and serve as a warning of the eternal fire of, of God's judgment.
So I picked a, picked a feelgood verse for this one. It's kind of like one of those Hallmark card Christian Hallmark card verses.
I feel like the church, the church lady on SNL loved this verse. Isn't that special.
This is my favorite verse. It's about hellfire and damnation, and you don't know what the church lady is.
Look it up on YouTube. It is the best. Dana Carvey is church Lady. It's so good.
It's good. Yeah, it's good. And yeah, this is a bold and convicting verse, but we've had a lot of just the encouragement verses, and we need those. But I do think it's also important to remember that God has standards that must be. And God will not be mocked, the Bible says. And we live in a culture that is mocking the standards of God through sexual perversion, through brokenness, through outright rebellion, open rebellion, celebration of in the face of God. And God is. He's slow to anger, and he is so patient and he wants everybody to come to him. But there will always be a reckoning. Every sin, I've heard it said, every sin will be paid for either on the cross or in hell. And all of us have sinned, and we get to choose where that sin is going to be paid for. We can trust Jesus with it on the cross and live our lives his way after making that decision, or we can continue to live in open rebellion and ultimately pay that debt that can never fully be repaid through eternity. And that's not a pretty reality, but it's a biblical reality. And we would be irresponsible if we.

Exactly. Because it is in scripture. I mean, this is part of it. There are consequences, right? Eternal consequences. And I think, you know, Sodom and Gomorrah and Old Testament, you know, this happened. And being just destroyed, which were two.
Cities that lived in open sexual depravity.
Yes.
And homosexuality was a big part of that. Just all kinds, any kind of sexual sin you can imagine. And God ultimately just judged them in fire. I mean, it was a picture of God's judgment on a broader scale when people live in open outright rebellion, right?
And saying, like, we can't act like this is okay and that we have to know that that God is just that he has standards and that right is right and wrong is wrong. And again, I think it's just, it's hard for some of us to swallow this because we do live in a world that says there's no truth. And also, even in Christian circles, you know, Jesus, Jesus loved, you know, he wanted all to come. And you know, it's, I wanna make it very clear too, like even, you know, current day homosexual people, they can come to Jesus too.
Absolutely.
Jesus loves them.
He loves you. If you're listening to that's your struggle. He loves you. It is not his desire to pour out his wrath on you. He wants to invite you into his loving arms. But you've got to trust him and not the world's way, the world's way of convincing you that your identity, that your very soul is somehow wrapped up in this sexual identity. That's not God's plan for you.
Right? And I think that in the church it's hard to approach this, especially with things like Sodom and Gomorrah. And it's not even just homosexuality. We talked about bestiality earlier. We talked about it said sexual perversion was the word they used in these verses.
Any sex outside pornography, covenant of marriage, robot thing, one man and one woman, any, you know, just self selfish sexual act.
Right.
Even if another person's not present. I mean, you can sin sexually where.
It'S not God's best for us because you know, sex is meant to be within the union of marriage between one man and one woman and only in that marital union, you know, not bringing anything into the marital bed, another person or any other thing, you know, or virtual in our day and age. It's just saying there are standards when it comes to sex and that there's also consequences. And I know the fire is alarming, but really God could consume whatever's going on in some sexually perverted area on earth today in a fire if he wanted to. But really it's the fire inside of us that can destroy us inside. And we've seen this, we've seen where people get caught up in these kind of lifestyles. And even in marriages today, we get written from people where, you know, they're married but they're a sex addict and they're getting with prostitutes and they're going to strip clubs all the time or they're meeting up with people online and just going and sleeping with them and it just tearing themselves apart and then tearing their family apart. You know, we see people caught in a pornography addiction.
Yeah. And I feel ashamed there. And the Bible has so much hope for all of us. Even that the Book of Hosea, which was in an earlier episode where he married a prostitute, and there was that habitual sin of prostitution and sexual depravity. And God said, that's a picture of how we treat. Treat God. That we cheat on God, that we're unfaithful, but yet he pursues us with his love and grace and his mercy. And so these verses about hell and about judgment and all this, all of the Bible, even the verses that seem a little scary, they're meant to point us to the goodness of God and His grace and what Jesus did for us on the cross, to pay the price for all of our sin, past, present, and future. So you don't have to live in shame or condemnation. Live with Jesus, turn it over to him, receive the grace that he offers so freely, receive that gift by faith, and then walk in the freedom of it. And that's our hope and prayer for all of us. And I hope through this whole journey, you guys have grown closer to the Lord. I know we have. It's been a journey that's really encouraged us in our faith. But don't stop short of the finish line, because tomorrow, day 66, the book of Revelation.
Revelation.
Don't miss it. We'll see you tomorrow.
