Achieving More Is Easy IF You Do This
2 Mar 2020 · 6 min
Dean Graziosi uses a comedian-testing-jokes analogy to explain how to achieve more: try many small things, keep what gets strong reactions (clients happier, coworkers energized), discard what doesn't, then scale the wins. Eliminate low-impact activities and double down on what actually moves the needle.

What's up? What's up? I'm filming this today after three days away with some dear friends having a mastermind up in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. It was such an incredible time. I have so much knowledge to share with you guys. There is no faster, quicker, better, easier way to gain knowledge than surrounding yourself with people. Where everybody's getting smarter, where everybody has a desire to go to the next level, where everyone has the same values as you, people who want to go to the same level as you, and nothing could be better. But here's the cool part. When I do a mastermind with Russell Brunson and Brendan Burchard and Lewis Howes and Trent Shelton and so many incredible people, Tom Bilyeu and other great, great greats, your head just spins because every time you bring something up, they have something they've experienced. That's the power of a mastermind. I don't mean to digress here, but I just want to remind you, if you surround yourself with small people, you'll end up dimming your glow. If you surround yourself with people who inspire you, you'll go to the next level. So here's what I want to share today. There was something I shared with Russell Brunson. He's the owner of Clickfunnels. Great dude about comedians. It's a simple little analogy and I want you to think about it. Because he thought it was such a great idea, I think he went and did a podcast on it too. So I'm like, well, if he took my idea and did a podcast, I need to share it with my peeps. So here it goes. I told him how you get good at being on stage. Now, this could be anything you do in your life. I just want you to think through this because this is how you write a book. This is how you Go on stage. This is how you create the best version of you. I use the analogy of a comedian. Now, a comedian could be funny as heck, but the first week he writes his skit, he's not gonna be in Madison Square Garden with 50,000 people. But what comedians do is a comedian will go to all the little comedy clubs around the country and rate. Let's rate a joke from 1 to 10, right? You do a little skit joke. What are they, three to five, 10 minutes long? And when you're done or in the middle of it, you could have people going, haha, that was cool. Or laughing hard or crying, or crying and falling on the floor. Think about it. You know those jokes. I remember being a kid listening to Eddie Murphy and my God, it was so foul compared to anything I'd ever heard. But it was so funny. I was literally on the floor laughing so hard I couldn't catch my breath. And it seemed like I was doing that for like an hour and a half straight. So how does that happen? Because if you go and you practice enough, if you put the time in and you go to all the little dive places, the little comedy places that seat 40 to 200 people, every time you tell a joke that gets a that was funny, you throw that one away. And every time you get a joke that puts them on the floor in tears, laughing where they can't breathe, that sticks. And if you do enough practice, if you go to enough of the small places, eventually what will you have? You'll have nothing but good jokes because you throw out the good ones and keep testing new material. So when people say, dean, how are you so good on stage? And how'd you know what to write in your book? Because I've been on stage teaching in front of people for almost 10 years, at least once a month. Sometimes it's 200 people, sometimes it's 18,000 people. And I know when I share something that impacts your life, your personal growth, your personal development, your success, the ability to make more money or have more happiness or joy. I know if I have the audience that are like, that was cool. Or an audience like, wow, that was good. Or an audience where they're coming out of their skin, where their eyes are popping out of their head, where they're writing in their journal faster than they can move, I know that's my funny joke. That's not just a funny joke. That's the fall on the floor. So how does that relate to you? Think about everything you do in life. We don't know how to get better until we, you know, show our grit, until we hustle, until we work hard. There's so many different words, people. It's a. It's a trendy thing to say hustle or have grit or work your ass off, whatever it is you want to say. But if you're just working hard, you could be running on a treadmill. So what is it that you do in your life? Is it real estate? Is it Amazon? Do you have a brick and mortar building, a retail business? Do you have a job for somebody right now? But you know, there's more. Where can you practice more? Where can you be observant to look for the eyes popping out of their head? You made an impact. The jokes that made them laugh, the things that you do that move the needle, the things that make your business easier, make your clients happier, make your co workers feel alive, make your boss, if that's what you're doing right now, be like, wow, that's awesome. Look for more of those. And guess what? I'm going to say something so brilliant right now.
Do more of that.
And do less of the things that don't make the jokes, that don't make the people smile. I'm using that silly analogy. So I want you to think about that in your life. Where can you practice? Where can you take the good and grow it, fuel it, make it better, and take what's not working and throw it away? Sometimes to have a breakthrough, we have to break something. It's what's called creative destruction. What do you have to throw away in your life and what do you have to focus on? That's a great thing for you to think about this week. And remember, all success starts right here.
