Are You Afraid Of Your Own Potential?
7 May 2021 · 0 min
A motivational podcast episode by Dean Graziosi (May 7, 2021) encouraging listeners to overcome self-doubt and share their knowledge in the growing digital/knowledge economy. Graziosi frames self-doubt as a common, almost innate barrier, uses personal anecdotes (e.g., Sean Stephenson) to illustrate refusing to "dim your glow," and urges listeners to view sharing expertise as both an obligation and an opportunity to help others and build a meaningful business/life.
Do not look back in five years and say, I missed the window to be a part of that wave of the knowledge industry. When people were saying, college isn't working, doing it on my own is not working. What's working is learning from other people who have already been there.
Welcome to the Dean Graziosi show. All success starts right here.
At this phase of my life, I never have doubt. Like, it doesn't even pop into my head. Just pure confidence. I just do whatever I want. I'm lying, of course. I still have doubt every day of my life, right? Every day. Right. Insecurities. Next level. Walking on this stage, I had butterflies walking out here today. I've been doing this for 20 years. Like, there's doubt all the time and more doubt than you probably realize. I really believe. I know it sounds crazy, but I believe most of us, and I believe I was like, we're born almost pessimist. We're born with a pile of self doubt and we spend the rest of our lives working on to being an optimist to crush self doubt. But I want you to think about this today and I really want you to think about this. What does self doubt already cost you? When have you almost been there? When did you almost take the action and you let that inner voice stop you and then you look back years later with regret and say, I was this close. I almost did it. I almost jumped on the bandwagon. I was almost there. And Tony and I and the rest of the group, we don't want that to be the case here. Do not let back in five years and say, I missed the window to be a part of that wave of the knowledge industry when people were saying, college isn't working, doing it on my own is not working. What's working is learning from other people who have already been there. You have a story to tell and we need to make sure the world hears it. I had a dear friend, Sean Stephenson. He's no longer with us, but we called him the three foot giant. He was born with a disease where he didn't grow over 3 foot, broke lots of bones. But he was the tallest, most strong man I ever knew. I loved the guy. And he said to me one time, don't you dare dim your glow to make other people feel good. Man, that hit me. I don't know if you guys, if it hit you or you feel that. How many times in life when we want to go for that next level, we want to be in the knowledge industry. We want people following us. We want to Try. We want to impact people's lives with one of our 5,000 different niches. No matter what you have, you want to be sharing, doing, being part of the digital economy, helping, impacting lives, creating success while you're helping others. And then all of a sudden, it's like, yeah, but if I tell my parents, Ooh, if I tell my husband that I want to transition out of my great corporate job to start serving people, start coaching people, start doing workshops or build a course or write a book, oh, man. And we start thinking that, and we start dimming our glow to allow other people around us to feel better. And that can't be the case anymore. If you die with knowledge in your head that can serve others, that can allow them to avoid potholes, to go faster, to get to the end result, to get the specialized knowledge to go quicker. I think we should feel guilty if we don't share that. Think about that. There are people right now who need you. Don't just want you. They need you. Think about some of the things you've been through in your life. And you could say, don't step there. Go over here. No, no, no, don't do that. You'll fail. Oh, my God. When it comes to your children, when your marriage, your life, your health, your income, your family, like, they need you. And we should feel obligated to share. But I have to tell you something. It's not obligation. I feel like the luckiest guy alive. I don't feel like I'll go to work any day. There's not a day I feel like I go to work. I get to impact people's lives. I get to share what I learned for a living. I get to help people be inspired, go faster, go quicker, avoid potholes. Am I perfect? Hell, no. None of us are. But I'm learning at a rapid rate. I get to make a living, impact lives, have great success, take care of my family, retire my parents, make sure my kids are going to be okay. Build success. Donate to Feeding America, donate, you know, to Operation Underground Railroad, build schools, take care of the people I love. I get to do that by learning and sharing. It is not a job to me, and I promise you, those that are already in it, you get this. Most of you here are already in this, and you know it. But this is an industry. This is a business. This is your life that you will fall in love with. And what was that old saying? If you love what you do, you'll never work a day in your life.
