Dean Graziosi argues that excellence requires deliberate attention, focused effort, and new skills across any area of life. He uses parenting and a daddy-daughter dance to show how sustained focus and coaching create results, then directs listeners to a free 30-day challenge at thebetterlife.com.
If you want excellence in any area of your life, it needs your attention, it needs your focus. It needs you gaining new capabilities, and it needs you to be fearless. It needs you to take action.
With all the opportunities that exist today, why haven't you reached your next level of income, life and wealth? In most cases, we've been lied to. We've been told that if you find the right opportunity and you work hard, you can be successful. And that's simply not true. Millionaires, billionaires, and successful people have realized you need the foundation for wealth, the habits. And that's exactly what you'll be learning on the Millionaire Success Habits podcast. All success starts here.
What's up? What's up? Welcome to the Millionaire Success Habits podcast, where we go upstream and we set in the foundation the anchors, the rules, the habits for success. In today's world, there's so many magical money machines telling you how to get wealthy in six days or six months. And how is that working out for you? How is the get rich overnight thing working out for people? You know, listen, in my years of going from broker than broke to generating hundreds of millions of dollars with my companies and my brands and falling flat on my face and stressful nights to reaching levels of success and enjoyment and fulfillment that I never could have imagined, here's what I know. What allowed me to get here were my habits were different rules that I had the way I think. And that's why I love this podcast, because I'm obsessed with giving you that foundation, giving you the anchors to for sustainable wealth, sustainable happiness and abundance and joy. And that's what we cover right here on the Millionaire Success Habits podcast. Today, I want to talk about excellence. What allows one area or one thing in your life to feel that it's reached a level of excellence while other areas in your life seem to struggle? So maybe you're in great shape, but your relationship's not so good. Or maybe you don't even have one. Or maybe your body's ripped and you're shredded, but there's no passion in the love that you have. Or maybe you have passion in a great relationship, but you're not making the money you deserve. Your business didn't get off the ground, or you didn't get the promotion that you wanted. What causes that now? There's a million reasons. That's why you listen to me. That's why you're at this podcast and listen to other great people as well that are actually doing it. But I want to talk about one factor today, and that's attention. And that's focus. You see, I don't know if you're following me on Instagram. You should go look me up. I'm on there every single day in a whole different format. Personal, Right. But in the last few posts, I shared about going to Daddy Daughter dance with my daughter and how I saw her in a different light. She's 12 years old now and she gets dressed up to go to this dance, and she's not a little girl anymore, and God, absolutely gorgeous. But she's sweet, she's compassionate, she's empathetic, she's confident, she's outgoing, she's polite, she's not spoiled. She cares about other people, she listens. She's got an entrepreneurial flair. I mean, I was looking at my daughter and I was so, like, so impressed by her. And we go to the Daddy Daughter dance. And if you're a parent, you know this. If not, it doesn't matter. This isn't about parenting. This is about excellence. So listen to me, seriously, if you don't have kids, it doesn't matter. Listen to me. I get to the dance and I dance a couple dances with her. And all her friends are out. Now she's in sixth grade. There's not another sixth grader dancing with her dad every single time they're hanging out with each other. And I said to her, hey, babe, you can go be with your friends. And she said, no, I'm good, dad. This is a father daughter dance. I see them all the time. She danced with me every song, all night, from quirky YMCA to butterfly kisses where her head was in my shoulder and I was crying hysterical. I didn't want her to see me cry. I was so impressed by her. But then I think, is it lucky? You know, when I. A lot of times I'll go to a restaurant and I'll be with both my kids and somebody will watch our interaction. I won't even pay attention. Someone will walk up and be like, oh, my God. I just want to tell you how lucky you are, how blessed you are to have two such amazing children. They're not on electronics, they're having conversations. Are my kids perfect? No, I'm not saying that. But I get those compliments all the time. And the fact of the matter is, I'm not lucky. I didn't have the best upbringing. My parents were married nine times between the two of them by the time I was like 20 years old, I moved to 20 times by the time I was 20, and I didn't have a Great foundation, great people. But I didn't have a good foundation of being a role model. So I've read probably 50 parenting books. I've interviewed at least 30 dads that I thought were strong in raising confident, capable, fulfilled children. I didn't leave it up to choice. I make them breakfast almost every morning, especially when they're with me. Every time. So we can have our conversations. We have Sunday meetings. I talk to them. I listen. I let them fail on their own. I show them how to have empathy. I show them how to have hunger. I teach them that you win when no one's watching. They're both superior athletes. I talk to them as if they're two or three years older than they are. I expose the truth when they ask me something. I don't hide it. I tell them when I fail. I tell them when I screw up. I tell them how to achieve. I tell them certain parts of school that I think are stupid. And I tell them other things I think they really need to know. I found a way to obsess on giving my kids the tools to be the best version of themselves. Now, did I make them who they are? No. They had to want it. I get all that. I'm not taking away any credit from my two amazing children, but I worked on it. It had my focus. It has my attention. In fact, it might even be a little obsession for me. I make every game. I try to make as many practices as I can. I take red eyes in the middle of the night after a long meeting or a long event so I can make the first day of school or make the play or make the game. Why? Because it's important to me. Because it's got my focus. It's got my attention. I know at the end of my life, when I look back, nothing else is going to matter as much as me being the best dad I could. And being the best dad doesn't mean super dad, doesn't mean, like, Disneyland, dad. It means giving them the capabilities and the tools for them to live a fulfilled life. That's important to me. So why am I saying that? I have excellent children. I'm excelling in that part of my life. Why? Because it has my attention. It has my focus. I obsess on gaining capabilities. I've hired a coach. I had a therapist for a whole year, once a week, teaching me how to be a better father, be a better listener, how to unravel the pieces of my son. He's a little more complicated. I want to be a better dad. I didn't have the capabilities. I cut a check for it. I paid someone who was better than me. So my whole point today, I'm sorry, I'm just getting done with a cold. I never get sick. I have the worst cold in my life. Oh, my God. I'm actually filming from home right now because my poor son got it. He's in the other room. I'm working and taking care of him. And I'm sharing with you because this is important. If you want excellence in any area of your life, it needs your attention, it needs your focus, it needs you gaining new capabilities and it needs you to be fearless. It needs you to take action. It's the only way it's going to happen. Everybody dies for great children, dies for the successful business, dies for the six pack, dies for a passionate relationship. But simultaneously, you're not putting the effort, the energy. When I taught my kids, you win games when no one's watching, you gain excellence when no one's watching, gain the capabilities. Put the focus on it and make it happen. You're worth it. Your life is worth it. And don't think you can just have excellence in one area of your life. You can work on all of it.
