Stupid Things To Do With Your Time
30 Dec 2019 · 7 min
Dean Graziosi’s short podcast/monologue urges listeners to adopt binary thinking—classifying activities as "needle movers" (yes/hell yes) or energy-draining (no/hell no)—and to eliminate or delegate non-productive tasks to free time, energy, and resourcefulness for goals. He contrasts being busy with being productive, gives personal examples (multiple companies, family time, select social commitments), and closes with promotional calls-to-action (subscribe, Instagram, free book).

I want you to think in brackets of yes and no, black or white. Needle movers, not needle movers. Energy. Energy draining. Welcome to the Dean Graziosi Show. All success starts right here. So many of you are working your asses off. You guys are putting the energy, the effort, the thinking energy, the physical energy, the time, the effort. But are you really managing your actions to make sure that every day, even if it's just an hour a day, if you got to work most of the day to pay the bills and keep things going or keep your company going, that's okay. But you need to designate an hour, a half hour, two hours, whatever you can spare on the things that can actually move the needle towards your next level, towards your goals. What can you work on that actually moves the needle that you're not? We get sucked into busy work. Sometimes our brains allows us to say, no, but I'm busy. I'm busy, I'm busy. But are you productive? Busy and productivity have nothing to do with each other. You can run on a treadmill as fast as you want on number 10 for an hour. You're still not getting anywhere. You're in one spot, going fast. Your heart was racing, you're feeling like shit. But you didn't get anything done. You didn't accomplish anything. You didn't move the needle. I want you to think in brackets of yes and no. Black or white. Needle movers, not needle movers. Energy, energy draining. Like what I want you to think about for the next six months. And listen, of course there are some gray areas, but what if you got more black and white? Binary. A1 or a no, an x or a zero, a yes or a no, black or white. Like, nothing in between. Because if you start analyzing some of the things that you do on a daily basis and literally say, does this drain my energy or. Or enhance my energy? It drains it. It's gotta go. Does this actually move the needle in my business or not? If I've been spending months trying to figure out the right color and the logo and what should I do? An LLC or an S Corp? Should I buy a.com or a.net? and should I. Should I promote on Instagram or maybe more Facebook? If you spend the last three months, six months focusing on that shit, you're busy, but you're not focusing on the needle mover. So think, is this energy, this focus, this time I'm spending, does it make my business, make me more money or not make me more money? If it doesn't decide to get rid of it, or change it if you're going to focus on things, am I going to. Does it help my marketing or does it help my marketing? Does it allow me to grow or not grow? Does it allow me to make impact or no impact? Does this person light me up or bring me down? What if for the next six months of your life you created a habit of being less gray, less gray matter? It's black or white. It's yes or no. It's a hell yes or I ain't doing it. Because again, I said this earlier. What are the two things we need more than anything to be successful? Something some people might say I need more money. I don't believe so. How many people do you know that win the lotto or become trust fund babies and they're broke, miserable, on drugs, unhappy? Right? I don't think it's the money. I think it's time and resourcefulness. Right? You need the time, resourcefulness and the energy to take action, right? I think I would much rather have time, resourcefulness and energy to take action than anything else. Start over. Somebody says, you got all this stuff. That's how I want to start over. So how do we get that? How do we find the time? We get rid of the shit that doesn't move the needle in your life. Stop running on a treadmill. Stop doing things that your parents taught you that will serve them but don't serve you. Stop doing things that your spouse thinks is a smart idea but you know it doesn't move the needle. Love them, care about them, give them, shower them with more love, but still do your own shit. Set times, set guidelines. Like set guidelines of when you work, set timelines that I'm going to work from 2 to 3 before the kids get off the bus or I'm going to work, I'm going to get up an hour earlier in the morning and that whole hour is going to be focused and throughout the day. Now that I shared this today, start thinking yes or no, black or white? It's a yes. Hell yes. Or it's a hell no. Because that's how successful people find the time. Listen, so many people ask me, so many people ask me, how do you do all you do? I have like 13 different companies. I have hundreds of houses in my real estate brand, my real estate company, I'm partners with Tony Robbins, who I love with our knowledge, business, blueprint and everything we do there. We're going to change self education, make it the new norm. Like that gets so much of my focus. My real estate company, my Real estate training company, live events. I'm writing my new book. Literally, I'm three quarters of the way done with my new book. I love being a dad. I go to every Little League practice and softball practice. I'm there at every single game. I'm spending half my time with my kids on summer vacation, working from home. Like, we all have stuff. I'm not saying, oh, look at me. No. I'm just saying, how the hell do I do it? Because I am really good at binary thinking. Really good. I don't do anything I don't want to. I don't do anything that doesn't impact my life. Doesn't impact my life and what that means, what success means to me. I don't do anything that doesn't enhance my relationship with my kids or improve their growth. I don't do anything that doesn't help improve the relationship with my fiance, soon to be my wife and that amazing relationship. I don't do anything that doesn't serve you and serve my team. Like, if it's outside, like, three or four things, I don't do it. I don't like going to fundraisers. I don't like going to parties. I barely go to weddings. I'm going to my own and I can't wait. But I. I don't. And I know that's rude. I'm a little bit of an introvert. I like to be home and work from home. I don't take peer pressure. There's nobody that can convince me to do anything. I don't hang out with negative people. I don't allow people in my life that don't follow my values anymore. It's kind of shitty to some people. It's kind of awesome to me, my family and my life. When I'm 100 years old, I truly can look at where I'm now and say, I, I like what you did. Around 45, you started really stepping up. Around 50, you had it dialed in. And I hope I continue to grow that way. I know what's black and white in my life. I know what things move the needle in my business. I know what things I hope serve you so you can make a move in your life. I know what masterminds to go to. I know which ones I don't go to anymore. I know what friends that I love and empower me. And I know what friends kind of take that away. But I know it because I consciously work on it every day. I could never hit my goals if I said yes to the stuff in the middle Never. And to some of you, that seems harsh. And to others you're like, I need to do this. If you liked this podcast, make sure you rate it. And also make sure to click subscribe so you never miss out.
