6 Jan 2020 · 11 min
Dean Graziosi on the first pillar of momentum: stop asking how to do something and start asking who already knows. Find experts, courses, or partners who've done it, then extract and share that knowledge instead of figuring it out alone.

Never stop learning. You're like, oh, that was magical. No. Never stop learning. Be obsessed with self education. Welcome to the Dean Graziosi show. All success starts right here. Let's talk about momentum. Now, as we go through month after month, if you've been with me for years, you know exactly how I teach. Sometimes I teach the framework, sometimes I teach very tactical. But I hope you see that I teach in a way that you need this foundation. Like, I want to be the guy that gives you the foundation for momentum, the foundation for marketing, the foundation for the right mindset, because you heard me say this before, but you can learn how to sell $20 bills for 10 bucks. The wrong mindset, the wrong marketing, it doesn't work. It doesn't. Without momentum, you can't triple, quadruple the business. Right? So I'm always going to search, and what I do is, these are all my notes for you guys. What I'll always do is three or four days before the training, I will immerse myself and say, okay, like, I want to talk about momentum today. I'm like, what are the three most important things I believe that will carry you to gain momentum and keep momentum and be the foundation? So I look through and I think of all the things three, all the things that I. That I know. And then I come up with, what are these three things that I wish someone gave me when I was trying to gain or keep or really grow my momentum? And I obsess, and I write it down, and I say, I come up with three buckets, the three main ones, because if I teach more than three, then it'll be overwhelming. So I want to teach three, and then I come up with three, and then I'm like, okay, what are the subtitles of each one of those three? Now, once you anchor this in, then I want you to figure out how to, like, I can't give you every little piece. I want to give you the foundation. So here we go. Momentum. That's the topic for today. Number one in my three top things to create momentum is never stop learning. You're like, oh, that was magical. No, Never stop learning. Be obsessed with self education. And you're here, so that means you are. But this is the one I want to share. And this originally came from my buddy Dean Jackson, and I think he shared it with Dan Sullivan and a couple other people. But I want you to think about one of the biggest breakthroughs in my life, and it's what's allowing our company to grow. Company's growing like crazy. But one of them is this who, not how. Whenever I twenties, thirties, you know, whatever decade I was in of my life, whenever I wanted to try something new, how do I do better on Instagram? How do I do better on Facebook? How do I write this book? How do I start? How do I buy more real estate? How do I fix and flip? How do I own a thousand properties? Our first instinct is, how the hell do you do it? How do I buy single family houses? How do I start my knowledge business? How do I do my first mastermind or my first workshop or how do I create a community? And I just want you to think about this. How is stressful? I want to talk to you guys in a different way today because I'm feeling this because I really want you to. I hope I can anchor this into you guys so it sits in your soul like beef stew. That's like. I think of, like, wholesome food or chicken soup. Like, how does it sit in your soul? It's like, who is overwhelming or how is overwhelming? If I say I think you should get 25,000 followers on Instagram because you get momentum. You get to teach, you get to practice new ideas. You have a following. And when it's time to sell your real estate or sell your course or sell your mastermind, you got these loyal followers. They want to be a part of what you have because they're learning from you. They want your superpower. So go get 25,000 followers on Instagram. Now. If I said that to you and I said, and you said to yourself, how do I do it? It becomes overwhelming. I don't know about you. Especially when it's like, tech side of stuff. I don't understand. Some of you are tech savvy. I'm not. So, like, how is like, oh, my God, should I like how? And when you replace how with who, oh, my God, everything changes. So I want you to think about that, the who it could be a course, right? It's like, if I said how I want you to extract what you know if you're one chapter ahead of someone else. This is the knowledge business blueprint that Tony and I created. If I say to you I want you to extract what you know, you should be ethically obligated and you should feel guilty if you don't extract what you know and share it with the world. If you die with knowledge in your head, that means you're doing a disservice to the world. Self education is going to fix the broken education system. I need you to extract what? You know, I need you to share it with other people. I need you to make an impact on their life. And I want you to make money, do it, and do it over and over and have the greatest opportunity in the world to make impact and profits. Go. And if you say, and I said that to you and you said, how do I do that? Oh, my God, where do you even start? What do you mean? Extract what I know and like, do I just, like pull it out? Do I talk it? Do I tell people? Like, that is overwhelming, that is confusing, right or wrong. When you replace how with who, then all of a sudden things start to change with our knowledge business blueprint. So many of you on here are part of the knowledge business. You know, Tony and I took a our knowledge. It took 60 years to figure out. We condensed decades into days. We condensed decades into days and we built a course. That's the who. Tony and I is the who. We've done this before and then we gave a blueprint. So you could go take 5 years, 7 years, 10 years and try to figure out how to do a mastermind or a workshop or build a community or do a master, you know, do a mastermind. Or you could get the who, Dean and Tony and follow and say, oh, extracting what I know. Oh, I know exactly what I'm going. Oh, I know who to attract. Oh, I know how to market it. Oh, I know how to run it. All of a sudden, you replaced how with who. And that's what I want you to anchor in. This is how I'm growing my company so big and so many of my friends, even people, my peers, they're not growing as fast as they like. And I know it sounds simple. I'm like, because you're trying to figure out how to do it rather than who. And I'm obsessed now. And I'm not saying that all of you could just cut a check, but I'm obsessed. Now. My team, we're going to start. If you're a part of the knowledge business, family, whether you're real estate, anything. Again, this is a collaboration of all our family training. But if you're in the knowledge business blueprint, we are starting meetup groups. We're gonna start in four cities, then go to eight, then go to 12, then to 24. We're gonna do knowledge business blueprint in person, meetup groups all around the country. And just five years ago, I was thinking of doing this just Dean meetup groups, right? Because I think we've gone online so much, it's time to come offline and get together. I wanna help build community again, where you see people, talk to people, share ideas, build these mini masterminds. Meetup group. Five years ago, I remember saying, how the hell do you do this effectively? How do you make it powerful? How do you make sure that they're filled up every single week? How do you make sure when they meet it's worth their time? Because we're the busiest people in the world. And I want people to show up, get massive value, love it, be a part of a group where they all empower each other. They're like, how, how, how, how. And I remember having a whiteboard a mile long. I had this conversation with my team yesterday because we're going to launch our first four in January and they're doing an amazing job. But I said to him yesterday, I said, you guys are doing too much of the how right now. What I want you guys to do is I want you to find a meetup person expert, someone who's built meetup groups that's massively successful. I don't care what you got to pay them. You get them here. If it's five grand, ten grand, twenty grand for a day, you get them in the office and you let them share how to do it, because they're the who that can share it because they've already been there. So we could spend six months figuring this out, or we can condense decades into a half a day of consulting. And when he leaves, we have the blueprint on how to do it for from the who. I sound like, what's the author? I'm the who. Seuss. Seuss. Dr. Seuss. I forgot the who, the how. But I want you to really, like, get this into your soul. Like, get this into your soul that the who is so powerful. And the who doesn't have to mean you spend 20 grand for a consultant. It just means searching and seeking out and obsessing on self education. Because learning through your own trial and error is outdated. It doesn't go fast enough. I want to do this in every area of my life. If you want to invest in real estate, you could go figure it out. I had no one show me I wasn't smart enough to learn from anybody else. Took me 10 years to figure out. Or you could find the who that's already doing it and extract their knowledge and jump right in. And a lot of times they're not even already consultants. You find somebody who's just doing it and say, hey, how would you like to fly in here on a Saturday, and we'll pay you for a day to just vomit up your knowledge, Right? We've found consultants in every area from Facebook advertising to YouTube to Instagram to building courses and building them effective in a way that people get results. I just find the best and hire them, and we get to go a lot faster. But what I want you to. What I want to lead this first section on is really understanding that self education is your answer to go faster. Don't be afraid to cut a check for speed. Learning through your own trial and error can take years and you can figure it out, or you can find the right person, learn from them, and go faster. And all that does is start to create a culture of self education. A culture of who, not how, a culture of learning. Because when you're overwhelmed, when you're frustrated, when you're confused, I know what it feels like. I know what it feels like when you're standing and it feels like there's 4,000 buttons to push and you don't know which ones to push. I spent 30 years as an entrepreneur. 34 years I've been confused, overwhelmed, sad, stressed, ready to give up more than any of you could ever imagine. You wouldn't think that now it's like, oh, no, Dean, you got everything. No. I thought of giving up. I was scared. I wanted to hide. I had sleepless nights. And a lot of times I would look at the dashboard with all these lights and go, I don't know what to hit. I'm just screwed. And I wish someone would have just shaken me back then and said, because you're trying to figure out how to do it and you have no freaking idea how to do it. Go find the who. Go buy the course. Go read the book. Go get in the mastermind. Go hire the consultant. If you liked this podcast, make sure you rate it and also make sure to click subscribe so you never miss out.
