Good morning. Today I want to discuss with you the options for legally immigrating to Costa Rica. This is a topic of conversation with our clients who are interested in living here, purchasing, and they're always interested in knowing how they can legally reside in Costa Rica. There are 3 main categories in which you can obtain residency in Costa Rica. Those include pensionado, which is a retired person, rentista, someone who is considered a renter, or inversionista, or an investor. All three of these categories have different requirements, and for example, if you are a pensioner, you will be required to have a minimum of $1,000 month income. If you are a renter, you will need to prove, prove and provide proof of $2,500 per month in income. And if you are an investor, you will need to invest a minimum of $150,000 into the country. The good news about the investor category is that if you're purchasing real estate, your real estate purchase will count towards that requirement. And for example, here in Atenas, many of our properties start at €150,000 and up. So almost anything you would purchase here in our area will qualify you for using that category. In recent years, in the past year or so, a new category has opened up, which is the Digital Nomad Visa. Now, this isn't a residency, But the Digital Nomad Visa will allow you to, if you work remotely, so say you own your own business and can work with your computer, then this visa will allow you to live here for up to 1 year. It is extendable for a second year and you will legally be able to reside in the country. So there are many options. There are other options beyond this if you have a corporate sponsor or if you get married, but these are the 3 main categories, plus the Digital Nomad Visa, which will allow you to legally stay in Costa Rica. In that article, I discuss at length the information that you will need to provide to the immigration, or you'll provide to your attorney who is helping you with your immigration case.
