On the Road with Chef Dennis - Florida Key Lime Pie Festival

In this live‑stream video, Chef Dennis Littley (Dennis Littley) and his on‑site assistant Lisa give viewers a real‑time walkthrough of the Florida Key Lime Pie Festival. Dennis spends much of the segment troubleshooting audio‑visual issues, acknowledging viewer comments, and describing the festival’s atmosphere. He highlights the main attractions: a key‑lime‑pie‑themed margarita and martini contest, a hot‑sauce contest, a Miss Key Lime Pie pageant, a hula‑hoop performance, and various food and beverage vendors including the Florida Key Lime Pie Company, Florida Beer Company, and Westgate Smokehouse Grill. He notes the presence of cruise ships docked nearby, the pleasant weather, and the overall fair‑like vibe with music, a one‑man band, fire‑eater, and helicopter rides. Dennis also shares personal observations about the true color and taste of authentic key‑lime pie, the prevalence of hot sauces in Florida, and lessons learned about equipment preparation for live streams. The broadcast ends with plans to take more photos, post a blog update, and continue the “On the Road with Chef Dennis” series.

Let's try this. Can you hear me now? I'm hoping you can hear me now. We got the sound going, we got the picture going. I'm hoping this works better for you. Looks like the sound is on. We will keep Lisa still touring the area. Looks like everything's working well here. She's showing us more of the Key Lime Festival, and like I said, I am sorry. All right, here in the feed. Okay, let me see if I can make some adjustments here. All right, hopefully that is taken care of. That— can you hear me now? All right, now see I have turned off her sound and turned on my sound. Let's see if that helps at all. There's a Key Lime Pie Festival shirt. That's pretty cool. I'm still making some adjustments, so guys, hang in there with me as we show you the Key Lime Pie Festival. I do have the— I don't have the comment tracker on, but now we can, uh, I can see your comments as you put them up. So please do. Uh, Dave Pipe, I see you in the house. Nazim, you're in the house. Elena Bellamonte, uh, Candy's in the house. I got a lot of people watching this festival as we bring you live. And, uh, the Key Lime Pie Festival is really pretty They have a key lime pie margarita and martini contest going on. There's going to be a hot sauce contest going on. Uh, there's also going to be, uh, a Miss Key Lime Pie contest, and there's going to be a hula hoop. One of these, like, really fantastic hula hoopers gonna be here for the show, so they'll be here as as well. So, you know, it's getting kind of crowded here now, and I am going to go around later and take some pictures for everyone. So I'll do a blog post later and share a lot more in detail with you of what's going on. But you can see the beautiful blue sky there and how nice everything is. So— oh, there's an alligator! We got alligators in Florida, and one of them's waving to us, so that's pretty cool. Is Lisa working the, uh, her phone? Actually, we tried to hook her iPad up and I could not get a signal to it. I don't know what's wrong with that. Should have brought my tablet for this, but you know, you live and learn. So Nazim says the picture's good at least and we can see everything, so that's, that's the important part of this Key Lime Pie Festival. As Lisa wanders through the crowd and shows you what It's going on all over. I'm hoping she can still hear me. I did turn her sound off. And you know, Florida is famous for key lime pies. And when you look at them, you got to remember it's not that lime green concoction that a lot of people serve you. Key lime pie should be a little bit more on the pale yellow color because that's the color key lime juice is. It's not that bright green that we've come to associate with other limes. It's got a little bit of sweetness to the tartness and it just really makes a really wonderful pie. And the folks at the Florida Key Lime Pie Company have really perfected their recipe. Maybe you remember we did a Food and Booze from there a little while ago and we talked about it. They serve about 180 restaurants in the Gulf Coast. So their pies are pretty famous. Down here in Florida. Let's see what else is going on. We're still wandering the Midway, and a bunch of restaurants are here today, uh, celebrating, and they have booths set up. I see the Florida Beer Company from where I'm sitting, the Westgate Smokehouse Grill from where I'm at, and just more different places to visit. 5. The Beach is here and they're, uh, they're playing some music and broadcasting live. There's a one-man band walking around here too. We missed him, he was through here earlier playing everything at one time. He was pretty cool. We got a fire eater there, it looks like. I wonder if he's— what he's doing with that. Look like they're having too much fun. And the crowd's still a little light, but it's early in the day. This goes from 10 AM to 6 PM tonight, and it's right about when it starts to get dark here. So it'll be going while it's light out and then closing up when it gets dark. We're in the— we're in the reverse of time now. It is it's going to start getting lighter and lighter the later it gets now that we're in January. But for now, it's about 6 that it does— sun does go down here. Elise and I are going to the beach after this. I hate to rub that in, but yeah, we'll be heading over to the beach. Like I said, it's only about 70 today, but when you're in the sun, it feels warmer. Still, you can get away with t-shirt and shorts if you're really Kristen. There's a lot of seating around here for people to sit and eat. They are selling all kinds of delicious food, lots of seafood, beverages, crafts. It's just kind of like a county fair when you're having a good time. Hot sauce! Oh, absolutely, hot sauce! There is a hot sauce contest and they'll be doing that today too. Dave, I see your comment about the hot sauce, and what I'm trying to think of the name of the hot sauce company that we passed coming in here, but they— there's a bunch of them here selling their wares. Florida really loves hot sauces, and the Florida Key Lime Pie Company actually sells a load of them. I can't remember how many it is, but they have one whole wall covered with hot sauces. Florida makes a lot of them. It's pretty cool. We're taking you around. You see the, uh, Exploration Center. There's Fat Cat. That's the one I was thinking of. I have a sample of Fat Cat hot sauces at home. Pretty cool. There's the Exploration Center. We're back out. Beautiful day outside. And you see those in the background too, cruise ships coming in here. So some of the things they have set up are for the cruise ships to dock, come in and let them out. I think there's 4 cruise ships here today, and they will be unloading their passengers for a day on the beach, the Florida beaches. So I know Nazim, I think I saw— I don't know if I saw a Princess cruise or not. I saw Carnival and I saw Disney. Yeah, I'm tell— I'm I'm telling you, it is beautiful here. You gotta love the weather, you gotta love it. Sure beats the Northeast. I was talking to someone in Maine yesterday, said it was going to be -30 today. That's just insane. Our windshield puts it at about 68 today, not much of a breeze. All right, so Lisa is Wandering back around this way, I see her, she's coming to the end. There's more key lime pies, uh, there's a helicopter over here too. They're doing helicopter rides. It's just a really fun day, all kinds of stuff to eat, to drink, music to listen to, and just a, a wonderful day. And I'm really sorry, I thought I was going to have people from the Key Lime Pie Company talking, but like I said, they're so busy today, they're really not sure when they're going to have time to come by, and I didn't want to postpone this, so we'll do it and show you. Like I said, I will take plenty of pictures and I will share them and let you see more of the festival and all the different booths around. Taste some of the food, things that they have to offer. And there is Mia. Hey, yeah, I have Lisa working. Can you believe it? She's out there with her phone. I should have brought my tablet. Boy, I'm upset about that, but live and learn. Now I know next time to pack everything, not just two computers, two cameras, a microphone, cords, a wireless mouse. Those are all in the bag. So now I have to remember to include my tablet as well for situations just like today. I see her wandering back because these are the tables that we sit. So may I get her to come over here and sit down with me? Oh, she's looking at her hair. That's not a good sign, but that's okay. Okay, she can rough it. Just come over and sit down. And here we are in front of the Exploration Center. So tell me what you saw out there.
I saw the cat.
I saw that.
And I saw people smiling, people happy, people eating. Um, there goes the main guy right here. Yep.
I see him, but he's kind of busy, so that's all right. Yeah, they don't want to be called over. Live and learn, like I said. But anyway, you got to see, you got to share this beautiful day with us today. You got to see the festival. This Exploration Tower behind us is really impressive, and there's just a lot of people out here having a wonderful time.
Everybody's smiling, everybody's eating the key lime pies. Be over here, different things. I just had a, um, a pretzel.
Did you see any other— the— is there a liquor out there? Any other restaurants out there?
I saw beer somewhere over there. Let me go back over and I don't know what they're doing. Oh, there it is.
Yeah, yeah.
Um, I didn't see anything with the margaritas like you said.
Well, that's coming later on. Yeah, it's an event they're gonna have The margarita and martini contest, and then the hot sauce contest. There's a pie-eating contest. How hot does it get?
Did you have some of the stuff?
I didn't have the hot stuff. The hot— the boss told me that the hot sauce had knocked— actually stopped someone breathing one time. So we're staying away from that. I'm too much of a— I'm too old for that anymore. I was never that big of a hot sauce either. I like flavor, but once it gets to a certain point, you can't feel the inside of your mouth anymore. Not a good thing. So we'll let that for this— we'll leave that for the younger people and the stronger people.
Did you see the candy? I tried to get the candy.
I did. I wasn't looking at all of it, so I'll go back later and look. But, uh, Nazim said that the picture looked good. We just had a little trouble with the sound that was picking you up at first. I should have muted you, and I did. That's okay.
There you go.
So guys, we're gonna sign off. I know this was a little bit shorter than—
Somebody get you some pie?
No, that's fine. We'll go back and get pie later. But, um, we're gonna walk around. I'll take some more pictures and we'll broadcast, and I'll share a bunch of stuff with you later. But thanks so much for joining us today. It's On the Road with Chef Dennis, and we will be coming to you live soon from we don't know where yet, but I love this part of it.
This is great. This is good.
You know, maybe we can find another, uh, the Coast Hotels that wants to put us up and we can talk about them. But, uh, we're loving this Florida life and this seems like a good way to explore it and share it with all my friends. So enjoy your weekend, my friends, and we'll come back to you real soon. I will see you, uh, next Friday too. For Good Day Google+. For now, that's really pretty much all I have scheduled. It's a light week. So take care and have a good weekend.
Bye-bye.
