316. Having to Add Refrigerant
28 Jan 2026 · 4 min
Derek Cole explains why your AC shouldn't need refrigerant added regularly. If it does, you have a leak that needs fixing, not a system that needs topping up like a car's oil. A closed loop shouldn't lose refrigerant.

Thanks again for listening and let's begin. A lot of homeowners think it's normal. You know, I need Freon, I need to fill up. And that's not normal. It's a closed system. It's kind of like your body. You shouldn't be needing more blood, so your system shouldn't need more refrigerant every single year unless it's leaking refrigerant. So instead of paying the money to get one or two pounds every year, fix the leak and stop putting band aids on it. Because it does get expensive and it's not good for your system. I mean, it's kind of like your body running low on blood. It's not gonna be good for you. It's not gonna be good for your system. Your system runs a lot longer than your car and you make sure the oil's changing. Everything's good on the car, right? So the system really needs to have that tension and have that maintenance. Okay?
