Tip number four on the four ways to have a cool summer is to have proper drainage Air conditioning in the summer Air conditioning is always about, in this part of the country, is about removing humidity, removing moisture from the environment. And that is going to create, as a byproduct, is going to create water. That water needs to go somewhere. You do not want it to go in the house, in the attic, dripping the crawl space. No, you want it to go outside the home, outside in the drain line. And you want it out of your house and, and outside of your house. The way to do that is proper drainage. Already this season we've had a number of calls on clogged up drains, clogged up drain or full drain pans. And that comes from a couple things. It could be something clogging up that line, something in, in the drain pan that's coming to the line and clog it up, clogging the lineup. Or it could be lack of maintenance. And we'll do any kind of maintenance. We always clean the drain line to make sure the water is flowing out correctly.
So that's, that's part of the maintenance.
But you could also have something that's dripping in the drain pan and then gets, and then gets stuck in the drain line and clogs that drain line. So water cannot get through if it's in the ceiling. If your system is in the attic, we definitely recommend what we call a ceiling saver, which is a switch you put in the pan. So if it does start, you know, flowing in that secondary drain, emergency drain pan, it will turn the unit off. We've had a few of those as well. The switch actually turning the unit off, which of course makes it warm in the house, which gets your attention, which causes out there. But we call it a ceiling saver because it saves your ceiling and it's not overflowing with water and damaging, you know, the sheetrock or, or the ceiling for the upstairs. So proper drainage is key. Because a byproduct of air conditioning is going to be removing the moisture. When you remove that moisture, you have water. That water needs to go somewhere and you don't want it to go in the house, in the attic, in the crawl space. You want to go outside and to flow outside. We also have something we install called a pan treatment which will treat that water and help prevent those clogs from happening because it is going to release a chemical once it gets wet to help prevent mildew. Any kind of spores, anything growing up, growing and causing a problem with that drain line. So again, tip number four, Four ways to have a cool summer. Proper drainage. Going to dehumidify this summer because we're in southeastern North Carolina. It's going to be humid, it's going to be hot, it's going to be sticky. You're going to remove the moisture out of the air when you use air conditioning and you want that water to go outside.
