The first thing you should do if your heater is not working is check your thermostat settings. It's easy to bump the thermostat or to have it in the off position, or even to have it in the cool position and not heating. If your thermostat is turned off or in the wrong mode, simply turn it back on or switch over to heating and see if that solves the problem. Number two Check your circuit breaker. If your thermostat is in the on position but your heater still isn't working, the next thing you do is check your breaker. Sometimes a trip breaker can cause your heater to stop working. To check it in this case, go to your panel box. Look for the breaker that controls your heating system. If the breaker has been tripped or is off, simply flip it back on and see if that solves the problem. Number three Change your filter. One of the most common reasons why heaters stop working is because the filter needs to be changed. Over time, dirt and dust can build up on the filter causing it becomes clogged. When this happens, air cannot flow properly through the filter into your heating system. As a result, your heater has to work overtime to try to heat your home, which can eventually lead to a breakdown. To avoid this problem, be sure to change your filter every month. Check or change your filter now. Depending on the type of filter you have, you might not need to change every month, but you should always check your filter every month and if you go beyond three months, change that filter. If you haven't changed in three months, month four let's change it Number four Schedule Annual Maintenance finally, one of the best ways to prevent your heater from breaking down is by scheduling annual maintenance with a professional H Vac technician. During maintenance, the technician will thoroughly inspect your heating system and perform any necessary repairs or replacements. They will also clean away any dirt or debris that may be clogging up important components for your system. While annual maintenance may seem like an unnecessary expense, it's actually a very wise investment, one that will save you money in the long run by preventing costly repairs down the road. So if you find yourself in this situation where your heater isn't working, don't panic. There are several things you can do to try and solve the problem on your own. However, if these DIY troubleshooting tips don't work for you or you don't feel comfortable performing them, be sure to call a professional.
