Hey, what's up, everyone? Derrick Cole here with the Home and Life Comfort podcast. And today we're talking about something real simple but surprisingly powerful. Is your thermostat working for you or against you? Now, I know it seems like a no brainer, but you'd be amazed how many AC problems we go to fix and end up being a thermostat issue. And honestly, that's good news. I mean, because it means the fix is easy. The fix is simple. Let me set the scene for you. So when those first hot Carolina days, you walk in the house and it's still warm, it's still sticky, your instinct.
Is, my AC must be broken.
Who am I going to call?
But before you call us or start sweating bullets, do this one thing. Check the mode on your thermostat. Check the mode on your thermostat. Make sure it's set to cooling and not heating. We've seen thermostats left in heat mode for the last from from the last cold snap. So when the summer rolls in, folks think their AC has quit. Their AC is not working well. It never had a chance in the first place. If your thermostat has the auto setting, that's great. But even then, double check what mode it's actually running in right now.
Auto, auto doesn't mean much if it's stuck in heating, right? So let's talk about how to use your thermostat like a pro. First, keep your thermostat constant. Don't bounce it up and down all day long. I know you've read stuff. Keep it this temperature or this temperature, that temperature. That's fine for hours, hours at a time. But do not keep playing with the thermostat. Number two, if you're gone during the day, use their program of settings to let the system work smarter.
That's fine.
Use the settings. Number three, don't think cranking it down to 60 degrees at home will cool things faster. It won't.
You're just overworking your system.
And hey, one more thing. Most people forget batteries. If your thermostat uses batteries, change them out now. You don't want to find they're dead in the middle of a 95 degree day.
That's bad.
That's the bad time for a blank screen. You walk in the house, you're sweating, screen is blank.
What's going on? If your thermostat runs off batteries and.
Not a common wire or not a wire to power it, change the batteries now before you get stuck in that position. Now, after you do that, if it's.
Still not cooling like it should, then it's time to bring in the pros. That's what we're here for at Simmons. One hour heating air. We've been serving North Carolina families for over 70 years.
