Home and Life Comfort with Derek Cole.
Hey, everyone, it's Derek Cole with the Home and Life Comfort podcast. Thank you for watching. Thank you for listening. And today we're talking about something every homeowner feels once the first cold snap hits, that is keeping your home warm while not keeping the energy bill or the heating bill up. So, I mean, let's be honest. It's. It's not about how high the thermostat goes. It's about how smart you are to run your home comfort system efficiently. So first, we'll start with something very important. One of the biggest killers of losing your warm air in the home is leaks. Seal the leaks. We're talking about leaks in the doors, in the windows, and the cracks and the outlets, the lighting outlets, and the outlets on the floor, your plugins. Those are some of the most leaky spots. Spots. Believe it or not. Your system will not have to work as hard if you seal those leaks, and you'll stay warm longer. Number two, use that sunlight, Let the sun in. This is the opposite of what you want to do in the summertime, but in winter time, sunlight is free. Okay, so when the sun's out, open those blinds, let the sun warm your home naturally. But at night, close the curtains, close the blinds, trap in that heat. Because you're kind of like in the summertime, you want to close all that up so you're not letting cold air escape in the summer, but you want to close it up so you're not letting warm air escape in the winter. So when the sun's out, open the blinds, open the curtains, let the sun in, warm the home. When it's nighttime, close the blinds, close the curtains, keep that warmer in. Number three, reverse the ceiling fan. Something you probably haven't thought about. But if you look on your ceiling fan, there is usually a little switch. If it's manual, or it could be with the remote, but there's usually a switch. You can, you know, flip it because most people don't think about. But your ceiling fan has that switch for a reason. So flip it clockwise. You want to spin clockwise in the winter and push that warm air down, back down where you can actually feel it. You not kind of get rid of it, but that small trick can make the room itself feel a few degrees warmer without touching that thermostat. So flip that switch. Number four, change that air filter. Something you've heard me say over and over again. It's like trying to breathe through a straw. If your system is straining, it's going to drive up energy use, it's going to wear out components faster. So every month, replace that filter. Check that filter. It's a cheap, cheap insurance policy for your comfort. Number five, keep the air flowing. Make sure those vents. I've seen this a lot in homes. Make sure those vents aren't blocked by furniture, rugs, clothes, shoes. If the air can't flow, your system has to work harder. Which means if your system is working harder, it's causing you to lose money out of your pocket because it's having to work harder. Number six, tune up. Tune up before trouble. We call it a restoration. But this is my last step and it's probably the one of the most important ones. But schedule your heating. Tune up. We call ours the Happy Heat Restoration. It's the designed to bring your system back to peak performance before the real cold sits in. Now our techs go out to the house. They clean, inspect, test everything so you're not caught off guard when the temperatures dip to 2030 degrees. It's a lot easier and cheaper to maintain your system then to repair your system. So what's the bottom line Here it is. You don't have to choose between comfort and cost. With a little attention and routine care, you can keep your home cozy, your family comfortable, and your energy bills under control. If you're ready to make sure your home is set for the season, schedule the Happy heat restoration@simmons1hour.com be honored and glad to help you out.
