Hey, on this episode we talk about the one hour time frame and my new thermostat is not the same temperature. You asked your comfort and energy questions and they get answered. This is the Ask Derrick Cole Show. Hey, this is Derek Cole. Welcome to episode 92 of the Ask Derrick Cole Show. Had to think about that for a second because we've been on such a long break with the hot holiday and the weekend. I know Sunday I was at my house on the front porch writing article. I was thinking, man, it feels really good out here. That's really bad for business. That was the next thought after it felt good. Anyway, hope everybody's doing well. Good to see you again. Yes, I'm talking to you. First question.
I thought you guys would be here in one hour. That is your name?
Yes, it is our name, One hour Heating and Air. But the one hour refers to actual time frame. So when you call into the office and have trouble, the nice women in the call center will give you options on time windows. A one hour time window, hence the name. A two hour time window or an all day window, depending on which one works better for you. So if you want us there between two and four, that works better for you, then we'll be there. Now if for some reason we missed that appointment and we show up at 4:02 on the 2 to 4 window, then you do not pay for the repair. So in seven years now, we have missed four windows. So it doesn't happen very often, but it does happen. So maybe you get it for repair, but in all likelihood we will be there on time. And that's their tagline, always on time or you don't pay a dime is what it means. If we're not on time, you don't pay for it. But if you call us at 9:05, we're not going to be there at 10:05 the next hour. But we can give you a time window of an hour, two hours or all day, depending on what's better for you. So that's why we have the name.
My new thermostat temperature setting is different than my old one. Is that normal?
A lot of times when someone goes from an analog slide bar thermostat to a digital thermostat, the temperatures are 5 to 10 degrees difference between what you're used to seeing versus what is actually reading. Now it's not seeing things bad or it's off. It's just that the old thermostat was not that accurate. So a lot of times I tell folks, you know, Go on, feel what feels good for you. Don't get hung up so much on the temperature. You know what the temperature. You know, you could have said 75 before, and now you realize that it was really 70 with the new thermostat. So don't get hung up on trying to get 75 and be uncomfortable. If you're comfortable at 70, then keep it at 70. It's just. It's giving you a more accurate reading of the actual temperature in your house. Again, don't get too hung up on the numbers. People ask me a lot too, of what temperature should I set my house at? What temperature should I set my Downstairs, my bedroom? Whatever is good for you. I mean, if you're happy at 75, cool. If you're happy at 68, go for it. Whatever is good for you is the right temperature. But just go with it. Stick with it. Don't get too hung up on. My old thermostat says 78. My new one says 73. I'm kind of freaked out by it. I'm using more energy. No, if it feels the same, you're just getting a more accurate reading. There's nothing different there. Wow, that was a quick show. Make sure you hashtag your questions askdericole and we will get them on the show. Fight.
