Derek Cole describes his father telling him he didn't belong, despite a 3.7 GPA and dean's list status. He proved himself by overhauling the family business: negotiating supplier prices, building a parts-tracking system, and managing the warehouse. Now at Simmons / One Hour Heating Air, he brings that same drive to show up for customers.

There's no place for you here. You just don't have what it takes. That's what my dad said after I asked for a job at the Krasling College. Pretty tough to hear, especially coming from your dad. Guess I deserved it, though. I mean, sure, I graduated with a 3.7 GPA, made the dean's list and all of that, but growing up, I didn't make things easy on my folks. Guess you can say it took me a while to figure it all out. But I did eventually. And I was determined to make a spot for myself working in the family business. Now, back then, we didn't have a full time warehouse manager, but boy, did we need one. So I volunteered to fix things. I negotiated better prices with suppliers and got us a computer system to track parts. I proved I have what it takes. And now I want to prove that to you. At Simmons. One hour heating air. We'll do whatever it takes to make you happy. You called? We're always here for you. Just call when you need us.
