Hey, this is Derek Cole along with William Skipper. And welcome to the Comfort Experts. And today we're talking about refrigerant leaks on your system. And we get the question quite a bit, William, of should I fix the leak in my unit or should I repair it?
Well, when I explain this to a customer, what I like to do is use the analogy of your body. A refrigeration system is a closed system. It should never lose refrigerant, just like your body should never lose blood. If you were to cut your hand and you start bleeding, you're going to fix that wound. You're going to have it addressed. If it's deep enough, go to the doctor, make sure they get stitches. Whatever you got to do to stop the bleeding, you should treat your air conditioning system the same way. You don't ever want to continually lose refrigerant. Not only is it going to be costly for you to keep continually add refrigerant to it, but it can also damage the system because running a system with low refrigerant can put wear and tear on parts, as we've talked about in previous shows, but it can also not only wear and tear on the part, it can also add moisture to the system outside, moisture that can cause the system to malfunction and not heat or cool properly. So if you've got a leak, fix the leak, have it repaired. Whether it's replacing a coil, whether it's just fixing the refrigerant leak on the line, have it repaired. Don't ever continually add refrigerant.
Yeah, and the EPA regulates refrigerant, so there's only supposed to be so much of that refrigerant you can add to it over and over again before you say, okay, you have to fix the leak now because you've used this much refrigerant. So that's always something to think about. New customers we go to, hey, every year I put a couple pounds in. We can't necessarily do that now because you have to fix the problem and not just let it leak into the environment. So for more information, go to onehouraircarolinas. Com.
