28 Jan 2026 · 4 min
Derek Cole reflects on the early pandemic lockdown, arguing that the forced slowdown offers a chance to spend time with family and develop skills rather than waste it on screens. He notes that crisis-driven innovations may reshape how things work after COVID ends.

Hey, what's up, guys? I wanted to share a few thoughts about what's going on. Hopefully you, you're safe and healthy and the family's doing good. But I talked about this with the, with a few people now, and something I wanted to, to share with you guys while you're at home, under the stay at home orders, some of you have, you know, stayed at home for, for a while now because of this. But that's Las Vegas right there, the cat. But as an essential business or critical business, we've been working, still are working today, but, but I wanted to share with you what I was talking to some people about, which is, you know, try not to stay at home and binge on Netflix and Amazon, Hulu and do nothing. Now's the time to spend time with your family. Now's the time to personally grow and make yourself better at whatever you're doing, whatever your craft is, whatever you're interested in. Now's, you know, not the time for, you know, three or four weeks from now when this ends, if it's that point, you know, you don't want to look back on this time and think, wow, I wasted two or three weeks, you know, watching TV or watching videos, and I got nothing out of it. No, just slow down, take this time to grow, to be better, to look at yourself and what you wanted to do. Hey, Vegas. And be better. And this. I was watching some videos of, or I saw some videos of basketball players and baseball players, you know, playing games at home with their kids. And, and I got thinking, you know, maybe in that sense for them it's a, it's a blessing because these guys are rarely at home, rarely with their kids and their family this time of year. So take advantage of it. So anyway, just wanted to give my two cents on what's, what's going on, and hopefully you're not wasting your time watching videos on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube and, you know, binge on Netflix. Just, you know, take a minute, improve, get better, come out of this stronger. We all are. We're all going to come out of this. All these innovative ways people have, you know, had meetings and got things done, even with the medication, with the virus, I mean, it's like, you know, they really sped up their process. So also, I think coming to have this, it's not gonna be normal again. The normal of a month ago or two months ago has never come back. We're moving forward. So if you want normal to come back, it's going to be looking a lot different when we come out of this, but I think a lot of companies, a lot of agencies are, are going to start being able to move faster, quicker, better than previously because they, they were forced into innovation. So, anyway, take this time. Grow, get better. Yes. You know, turn on Netflix every now and then. That's fine. I'm just saying don't sit there and eat a gallon of ice cream and, you know, watch full seasons. But, but anyway, that's my two cents. Anyway. I love you guys. Appreciate you watching this. I'm glad I got it out on the table.
