Dharmesh Shah says time, not money, limits his angel investing. He backs founders he's never met and skips deep due diligence to keep his involvement light while HubSpot grows.
What's your angel investing thesis, if you have one? When I started angel investing, one of my constraints, especially as HubSpot was growing, is I wasn't going to be able to spend time. That was my biggest constraint. It wasn't money, it was time. And as an entrepreneur, I think just like focus is so important, right? And so the only way this is sustainable is if I don't commit the time, essentially, if I don't do due diligence. Over half the entrepreneurs I've ever invested in, I've never met or talked to on the phone, which is weird. What? Yeah, I know. It's crazy.
