Two entrepreneurs argue that passion is a premium, not a discount. Offering services free or cheap attracts demanding customers, kills perceived value, and tanks the business. Charge what your work is worth.

So many entrepreneurs start because they're passionate about what they do. They want financial freedom, they want the luxury of time, and they don't get any of that. And it's really hard and it's really sad to see. I know a lot of passionate entrepreneurs will justify, well, I'm so passionate about it, so I'll do it at a discount, or I am so passionate about it, so I'll give it away. And I'm always like, passion is a premium. Like, when you are passionate about something, you need to charge more because there's so much value in what you bring. People feel the energy, they feel the calling.
And I think entrepreneurs need to remember that because usually we start a business because we're so passionate about And there's this, this perverted self-sacrifice that you just indicated, like, I'll do this at a discount, or I'll do it for free because I love my customer. But here's the consequence of that. First of all, when you offer something to someone else at no cost, there's very little value perception. That's why for most businesses, the lowest dollar paying customers are usually the most difficult also to deal with. But there's something even more or greater of a consequence is you can't sustain.
