Diane Gardner and a co-host recall a photography retreat in a New York glass house led by instructor Izzy. They learned to stop centering subjects, use the rule of thirds, and apply background blur. These techniques transformed how they compose photos on their phones.
I find also these retreats are very expansive in learning. One of my favorite retreats was in New York in that kind of glass house thing. I think it was Izzy who gave us a training in photography on our phones. Oh yeah, that was so cool. So cool. And then she's like, let's go out and take pictures. And I've taken pictures ever since radically differently, much better as a result of that.
We learned something.
Yeah. I used to make object in center. She's like, no. Rule of two-thirds. Right. Rule of two-thirds. And blurring the background. These different techniques you could.
Yeah. It's always a learning experience too, which I've always appreciated. Appreciated as well.
