Mihail Pautov discusses whether you can lose fat and gain muscle at the same time. It's possible but not ideal. The more obese you are, the easier fat loss becomes, so pick one goal to focus on depending on where you start.
Is there a way for obese people to lose fat and gain muscle at the same time?
There is. It's probably not ideal. I think one should pick one or the other to really focus on it. And I think it depends on the level of obesity. Right. The more obese an individual is, the easier it's going to be to lose that fat. If it's maybe a little fat to lose, but they really want to build muscle, perhaps someone focuses on building muscle first.
If you're in a caloric deficit and you go to gym and you train hard, that caloric deficit is going to make you lose weight. How can you train in a way that you are burning the fat but still maintaining the muscle or maybe building muscle?
It's challenging. So typically if you are looking for hypertrophy and you're looking for building muscle, you want to start with a 10 calorie access, not a deficit. But then you look at the special operators like my husband and those guys will go through training, depending on where they are in their training, and they will be able to maintain, if not build a certain amount of muscle. But it's very difficult and over time they end up using muscle. So it's, it's really looking at the long term strategy. And again, if one has a very clearly defined goal, then that is what they should focus on. I wouldn't focus on losing fat and building muscle at the same time. I would put my attention towards one thing or the other.
