Approximately 8,000 steps per day.
About 51% lower all-cause mortality for those who walk ~8,000 vs ~4,000 steps.
From a marketing campaign, not based on real science.
How would you approach walking? Is it just. You said 10,000 steps? Yeah, 10,000.
Steps a day is sort of a myth and actually came from the marketing campaign and not based on any real science. But there is really good data to show that Those who walk 8,000 steps a day compared to those who walk 4,000 steps a day, have a 51% lower. All cause mortality, which, which to me is significant. And what it says is that again, human beings need to be moving all the time. And the other reason that we recommend 8,000 versus 10,000 is that 8,000 is a realistic amount of steps in movement to get in a day, especially amid a time crunch life. And I'll tell you that we don't necessarily get all those 8,000 steps by going out for a one hour walk. You know, we walk our dog in the morning, in the evening, we try to take little walks after we eat, or we take walking meetings during the workday. So we just try to figure out small ways to accumulate more movement throughout our day. And 8,000 is sort of the target number. Obviously more steps is better, you know, for anyone who wants to get 10 or 12 or 16, like, great. More movement is always better. But 8,000, we think, is the benchmark.
