Welcome back to another episode of True Wealth Conversations. I am your host, Dominique Broadway. And I am really excited about today's episode, and that is because I just turned 38. My birthday was January 22nd. And I'm not going to lie, I cannot believe I turned 38 yet. I just feel like when I was in my teens and even in my 20s, I thought people who were in their late 30s were, like, super old. And obviously, I'm here now. And clearly, I'm still very young. But I wanted to share with you guys some of the things that I've learned in the past 38 years and just to kind of catch you up on what's been going on. So I got to spend my birthday in Costa Rica this year. And Costa Rica is one of my favorite places in the world. There's a lot of places I love, but it's definitely one of my favorite places. The last time I was there, I was so into the whole Costa Rica thing. I got— can you see that? Pura Vida tattooed on my arm. And many of my friends who went, we all got tattoos. And I decided I wanted to go back this year for my birthday. So that's what I did. Went with some friends and some family and my kids and had just another beautiful time. And I'm going to tell you right now, I'm already put— I'm just going to put it in the atmosphere. I am definitely buying myself a place in Costa Rica. I don't know if it'll be this year. I don't know if it'll be next year. But I'm looking, and I want to own a piece of Costa Rica. So while I was in Costa Rica, the morning of my birthday, I woke up and went and sat on the balcony and just took some time to journal. And when I was journaling, at first, I was like, oh, let me do like a 38 things that I've learned. And honestly, it was just— 38 was a lot. So I was like, mm, let's just do 5. So I actually ended up going a little bit more, doing maybe about 15 things that I feel like I've learned over the past 38 years. And I wanted to share 5 of them with you. And hopefully, these things that I've learned will also be very helpful for you. So let me get my notes up. OK, so number 1, stop worrying about what other people think. And this is so important. I feel like so many of us— don't reach our goals, don't start the business, don't move away, don't create the content, don't launch the product, whatever, because we're so concerned about what someone will think, if someone will judge us, if someone will say this about it, if someone will say that about it. But imagine if you didn't care about what people thought, right? Imagine if you just did that thing that's been on your heart. So I challenge all of you to stop worrying about what people think. This is something that I wish I had learned way earlier. I feel like it was like not until in my 30s that I really started to say, you know what, I don't care what other people think. I don't care. I'm going to do whatever it is that I need to do and that I want to do to reach all of my goals. And this has been a major game changer for me. And hopefully, it will be a major game changer for you as well. All right, so that's number 1. Number 2, faith and fear cannot reside in the same heart. And this is important. This is something that I'm not sure if many of you grew up in a Christian school or Christian church like myself. And they always talk about faith and fear. And when you trust God and you allow God to lead your life, you can't let fear— come in. It just doesn't work. And so one of the biggest things that God wants us to do is to lean on him, not a little bit, but to lean on him completely. So imagine if you actually started to lean on God completely, if you didn't let fear run your life, but you let faith run your life, and you put all your faith into God. I'll tell you personally, the goals I had set for myself were very small in comparison to the goals and the purpose that God had for my life. And when I really just started choosing faith over fear always and letting God lead, that's when I really started to see the results that I wanted to see, but honestly, 10 times more, OK? So I challenge all of you to pick faith or fear. If you going to walk around scared, and fearful, go all in on that. But I can also guarantee you, you're never going to see any of the— or reach any of the goals that you're hoping that you want to accomplish. Pick faith and go all in on faith. Trust me, your future self will thank you, OK? So that's number 2. Number 3, it's one of my favorite quotes. If you believe you can, or if you believe you can't, you're right. And this is so true. Any time that I'm like, oh, I can't do something, I can't do this, I can't do that, you know what happens? I won't do it. I can't do it. It doesn't get done. But as soon as I start telling myself, I believe I can do this, I know I can do this, I know I can do this, it always happens. A lot of times, we trick ourselves and talk ourselves out of hitting our goals, out of doing this, out of that. We literally subconsciously, a lot of times, tell ourselves that we can't do things. And whatever we're manifesting in our subconscious will come out, right? I remember when I used to go work out at the gym with my trainer, and she would say, are you ready for the next set? And I would always say, yeah, yeah, I'm ready, I'm ready. But she could tell I wasn't ready. And she's like, are you just trying to convince yourself that you're ready? I'm like, exactly. Because if I say I can't, then I'm going to get over here and I'm not going to be able to do the next set. So if you believe you can or you believe you can't, you are correct. And I hope that all of you believe that you can accomplish whatever it is that you want to accomplish. OK, number 4, this is important. Never stop learning. Let me tell y'all something. I am a lifelong student. I'm not the lifelong student that's going to be hopping in and out of college forever. But I am a lifelong student of life. One of the most important things, especially as we're all getting a little bit older, right? Nobody over here is getting younger. We have to keep up with the times. We have to keep up with technology. We have to keep up with all of the things that are happening. You never want to get left behind. Also, for me, education and learning, if that's something I went and learned at a school and a course or from a friend, has been a major game changer in helping me to be able to control my own earning power, right? So as you guys know, my business, Finances Demystified, one of the things we do is teach people how to trade and invest. That one skill in itself can be a game changer for the average person, right? So I even know that if none of this stuff pans out, who cares? I have skills that will allow me to make whatever dollars I need to make just in the markets, and it's a skill that no one can ever take away from me, right? So it's important. Please never stop learning. All right, number 5 and the final one, and this is something I'm going to tell you guys, I am still I am personally battling with. And this is self-care. Now listen, I know this is like a buzzword the last couple of years. Ooh, self-care, self-care, self-care Saturday, blah, blah, blah. I am not the best when it comes to self-care. I am and have always been one of those people who go out of my way to take care of everyone else. And sometimes I'll put myself last. And so this is something that I am working through right now. But when I tell you— I can see the difference of when I am able to fill myself up, I can fill other people up even more than I ever could imagine. So if you're like me and you're trying to do it all and da, da, da, da, I get it. But please make sure you are still taking time for yourself. As that old saying says— and I always mess up sayings— but you can't pour from an empty cup. You have to take care of yourself first. I know one of the things my grandfather used to always say— I used to like, oh, Papa, I want to do this, and I want to donate here, and da, da, da, da. He would always say, how about you go and make your money first, and then you go and impact everyone? Because once you have more money and once you are in a stable place, the impact that you'll be able to make because you'll have so much more resources will be just way grander than what you feel like you could do right now. So I challenge all of you to start taking better care of yourselves. Take time for yourself, by yourself. Fall back in love with yourself. Know what makes you happy, OK? So those are my 5 things that— my 5 biggest lessons I learned in the past 38 years. And it has been a game changer in my life. And hopefully, these lessons will be a game changer in yours. And if you are listening to this and you're younger than 38, I hope that you're learning these lessons. Way earlier than me, OK?
