Dr. Jeffrey Gladden argues AI is transforming drug discovery from profit-driven to solution-focused work. An AI system generated 1,500 candidate molecules in three minutes. He predicts the scientific challenge of aging could be solved within a year.

I think the incentives are aligned around not how do we make a drug that we can make $1 billion off of, but how do we actually find the solution that's going to work? I think in some sense there's more intellectual integrity in some of those areas than there could be when someone's really aligned with the financial bottom line, so to speak. And I realize drug discovery is expensive and I understand all that and I understand there's lots of reasons for it. There's also a lot of AI stuff now that's coming along to really rapidly speed up drug discovery also. I mean, I ran AI for 3 minutes, it came up with 1,500. It's crazy, right? The rate of innovation— this is why I say aging will be cracked in a year, because the rate of innovation is high five, right? Yeah. But the rate of innovation is so beyond exponential that it's almost hard to comprehend.
