In this short video, Dr. Jeffrey Gladden explains that his clinic performs a 2‑hour oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) on every patient. He points out that many individuals who appear metabolically healthy—showing a normal hemoglobin A1C (5.3%) and fasting glucose (89 mg/dL)—exhibit marked insulin resistance when challenged. During the OGTT, insulin spikes to around 60 µU/mL and remains elevated at about 80 µU/mL after two hours instead of returning to baseline. Dr. Gladden emphasizes that this “stress test” on the pancreas uncovers hidden dysfunction, allowing patients to better understand and manage their metabolic health.
