This is a YouTube video titled "Reevaluating Estrogen's Role in Breast Cancer" containing a monologue or single-speaker discussion from July 5, 2025, focusing on the complexities of estrogen receptor positive breast cancer and challenging common interpretations of estrogen's role in cancer growth.
I think it's like that whole breast cancer thing too. Like, if it's an ER positive, if you have a receptor for estrogen, progesterone, on your cancer cell, this is a good thing. You know, it's like, it means that the body has not lost its receptor and it's still responding to normal cellular body signals. If you lose those receptors, that cell is completely malignant and dangerous. And so, like, but we look at in vitro studies where they grow in the presence of estrogen, but this is not what's potentially happening in the body where you have progesterone that suppresses growth potentially. So when you look at in vivo the different mechanisms that are involved in cancer growth, and then we're, we're simplifying it and saying that estrogen makes your cancer grow, I feel like it's gross oversimplification. We're not doing any justice to women by keeping them away from estrogen when these large scale, like, studies show that it's protective. Like, I, I think we really need to challenge this ER positive, like pathologists, when they mark those and they just mark ER positive, they're just looking at stains, in vitro stains. But doctors, like interpret that as, if I give you estrogen, your cancer is going to grow.
