Dr. Jeffrey Gladden explains how to prepare clients for psychedelic medicine work. He stresses metering expectations, entering a state of not-knowing, and surrendering to the intelligence of the medicine itself. The real goal is integration, not symptom relief: allowing all parts of yourself to surface and spiral toward a higher version of who you are.

One of the first items of agenda we have to address when someone comes to work with psychedelic medicine is metering someone's expectation. What do you expect? What do you think? What do you think ultimately will happen here? And inviting a person into really the ultimate existential space of not knowing and being okay to release any outcome of what might happen in that space, surrendering to to a greater intelligence that might know more than we, which is the wisdom of these, these plant medicines and animal medicines. And yeah, really stepping out of the way for all parts of ourselves to be revealed and ultimately integrated, which is what I hear you speaking about. And I'm so delighted to work with you in a few weeks, especially when people come into the space recognizing that, um, this work is about integrating all aspects of ourselves. It's not about fixing or relieving any aspects of ourself to go on their way, but everything gets integrated and spiraled up into the highest version of ourself.
