Chronic illness stems from cellular dysfunction, particularly when autophagy—the process that cleans and rejuvenates cells—breaks down. Restoring autophagy could reverse disease by stopping the cascade of inflammation and cellular decay that defines chronic conditions.
Chapters
Everything that happens in the body is a function of cellular actions, whether that's heart beating, thyroid function, anything. It's all cellular functions. So when we get sick, it's our cells that are sick. And when you look at that, every aspect of every chronic illness can be defined by cellular dysfunction. So carrying that a little bit deeper, your audience may be aware of the process called autophagy, which many physicians are not. But autophagy is the ability of cells to restore and rejuvenate. And so autophagy is a really critical factor. It's a wonderful marker of cellular health. So if autophagy is impaired, then cellular functions are impaired, then mitochondrial functions are impaired, and that impairment translates into symptoms, abnormal labs, every inflammation, every other aspect of chronic illness.
