Dr. Jeffrey Gladden describes reducing his anxiety to 0.5 out of 10 and using any remaining anxiety as a signal rather than a problem. He teaches clients to reinterpret anxiety as a minor cue, like a headache reminding you to drink water, so it stays manageable and useful.

Anxiety no longer runs my life. I don't have it. And if it, if it rarely comes up, it is a 0.5, 0.5 out of 10. And it's a blip on the radar, which is actually healthy because it's letting me know that I am going off course in my thinking, that I'm letting myself go into the stress response triggered by my thoughts and my focus. And then I, and then I do the tools that I teach. And it immediately goes away. So I train people to not only have anxiety no longer run their life, but to then use it as a tool when it does come up. And it, when it comes up, it's tiny, tiny and manageable. And it's letting you, it's notifying you. It's kind of like a minor headache would remind you you haven't drank water for the last 3 days, right? As opposed to like this giant migraine event.
