Hi, I'm Dr. Jameca Cooper Cooper. Make sure you subscribe to this channel for more information on mental health, reality TV, Kevin Samuels, and a little bit of everything else. So today we're talking about 3 reasons to forgive. In one of my other videos, I talk about the benefits of forgiveness, but first I want to tell you a little bit about what forgiveness is. Forgiveness is a process of accepting what someone has done to you or what has happened. It could also not involve a person. It could be a thing or a situation. So accepting what has happened to you and deciding to move on from that. That does not mean letting the person off the hook and freeing them and absolving them of any responsibility. It just means that you have decided to accept what has happened and to move on. So 3 reasons to forgive: Really, forgiveness helps you more than it helps anyone else. We don't really care about the person. They're over there, you're here. You want to forgive because you want to feel better, you want to have less stress in your life, and you want to not do things that impact your health. Wellness is very important, and as we move into a new year, you have to really be concerned about how you're going to stay healthy through this new year and beyond. So first reason to forgive is Weight gain. When you don't forgive, you tend to have cortisol levels that impact your weight and your metabolism, because what your body does when it's in this hostile, grudge-holding, angry phase is it holds on and it tenses up. So it makes your body feel like, hey, I'm not going to get any other food. It holds on to the food and the food stores that it has, and your metabolism doesn't work efficiently, so you tend to gain weight when that happens. So for all the women that are watching, this may be the most important reason, but weight gain is one of the reasons that you need to forgive people, because if you don't, then it's going to impact your weight. Second thing is high blood pressure. Studies have shown that when people hold grudges and are hostile over long periods of time— and if you've known anyone that hasn't forgiven someone you know that they're, they're grudge holders. They're, they're hostile, and they tend to carry that energy in their body. So what studies have shown is that it tends to make you have higher risk for higher cholesterol and higher blood pressure, which means you're going to be more at risk for cardiac disease or heart attacks. So that's a huge reason it's very important to forgive, because you want to impact your health and lower your risk for heart disease and heart attacks in the future. The third reason, third reason to forgive is that the one thing I talk about in most of my videos is mood. I'm always talking about anxiety and depression. So the third reason to forgive someone is that it's going to improve and increase your mood. It's going to make you less anxious and less depressed. And we're still kind of in a pandemic, which means that everyone's mood has been impacted by COVID-19 in some shape, form, or fashion. So it's very important that we can do any little thing to improve our moods. So the third benefit of forgiving is to improve your mood, because when you're not forgiving someone and you're holding a grudge, you're anxious because you're agitated and irritable about it. Sometimes you're depressed as well. There could also be some PTSD symptoms that go along with that. But so when you can forgive someone and release holding them to that and acknowledging what has happened to move on, you can improve your own mood. So again, who cares about them? We don't care what their mood is. We care about you and your mood. Wellness is very important. So make sure you consider all of these things as we enter into a new year. And we care about our health and we do things that we can control, such as forgiving people. This is Dr. Jameca Cooper. Make sure you start to forgive people more, or at least consider forgiveness based on some of the things I've said today. I'm Dr. Jameca Cooper. Thank you for watching.
