Hi, I am Dr. Jameca Cooper Cooper, and today we're talking about histrionic personality disorder again. Make sure you check out the other videos to find out exactly what it is. Today I want to talk to you about how you identify someone with histrionic personality disorder, and the main thing I want you to remember is that This will be a person that is very uncomfortable when they are in a group setting and they are not receiving attention. So in other words, imagine you sitting out at a restaurant with some of your friends, everyone is talking, and you look over at that person, you realize they're not happy right now. In other words, they're a bit uncomfortable because the attention is not focused on them, it's really on the group or everyone in the group. So this would be one of the main signs you look for to determine if this is a person who might be experiencing histrionic personality disorder. Another thing to look for would be sexually seductive or sexually inappropriate behavior. So these will be things like, let's say if you and your female friends were out somewhere, one of your friends doing something that would be considered off-limits, across the boundaries to your partner or your spouse. They might say an inappropriate statement. It could be something as simple as an inappropriate joke that probably shouldn't have been told at that time or place or around those people. So that would be another sign to look for. Another thing that is always apparent with the histrionic personality individual is very dramatic speech. In other words, they speak in ways that really gain attention. It could be a loud way to speak. It could be using very creative or different words. It could be the volume, it could be the pace. They could speak very quickly, or they could even slow it down just to get your attention. But overall, these are people that are going to use their speech in order to get attention. And then another thing that you would like to look for, for a person with histrionic personality disorder, is their behavior. It could be their dress, they could dress in ways that really get attention for them. So it could be— if it's a woman, it could be a woman that always wears short skirts or a certain color, or she could wear her hair a certain way, or she could wear jewelry that may be a bit excessive. But overall, this will be a person that has a desire to gain attention based on how they dress. So these are a few ways you can tell if someone may be experiencing histrionic person— personality disorder. And these were signs that you would be looking for.
