Hi, this is Dr. Jameca Cooper Cooper. Make sure you subscribe to this channel. Today we are talking about what happens when you live with a person that has histrionic personality disorder. Well, it can be quite an entertaining or a difficult situation. It really depends on how you look at it. It really depends on your personality. Like, if you are an upbeat, extrovert, fun person, then maybe the behavior of a histrionic personality disorder individual won't bother you so much. But maybe if you're more reclusive, introverted, withdrawn, then easily a person with histrionic personality disorder could annoy you. So today we're going to talk about what it's like to live with a person with histrionic personality disorder. Typically, this person is going to be over the top. They may be very, very funny, comedic, uh, might like the pedestal, the stage of being the center of attention, and would really enjoy people looking at them, laughing at them, and paying close attention to every word that they say. Um, but if you live with them and you have to experience this type of behavior every single day, all day long from sunup to sundown, it could get very annoying. It could drive you mad in some ways. It, again, it just depends on your own personality. So what are some things you might feel from living with someone with histrionic personality disorder? Depending on your personality, like I said, you could be very annoyed. If you are someone that needs a bit more downtime, a bit more quiet, it could make you a bit withdrawn. So in other words, it can make you leave the room if they're in the room with you and they begin talking. It can make you leave your house. It can make you go for long drives. It could make you try to avoid prolonged situations where you're in the room with the person and they're doing what it— whatever it is that they do to get attention. Another thing that it can make you feel is very impatient. So if you are in a romantic relationship or a friendship with someone with histrionic personality disorder you could always feel as though it's never your turn. It could always be about them. They could be what we call grandstanding, taking the stage, getting all of the attention, sucking all of the air out of the room. And it could leave you— if you're in a relationship with this person— it could leave you feeling annoyed, invisible, dismissed, or even minimized. And depending on your relationship with this person, this could be a huge factor in the relationship stability, the trust factor, and the longevity. In other words, do you want to even stay in this relationship? So annoyed, impatient, withdrawn. Another thing that you could definitely feel if you are in a relationship with someone with histrionic personality disorder is manipulated. I hear this all of the time with people who are relationships with people who suffer from Histrionic Personality Disorder. Manipulated, why? Because a person with this disorder tends to manipulate situations not so much for any malicious, um, reason, but for the sake of attention. So they could manipulate a conversation, switch it, flip it all the way around, just so they are the ones that is the center of the story. They are the ones getting the attention. They are the ones that everyone in the room would be looking at. So it's manipulation for attention's sake. They manipulate situations, they sometimes manipulate people, they sometimes manipulate relationships, dynamics, time, calls, all of that. But the end result for a person with histrionic personality disorder, all day long, is all about attention. So hopefully you learned a few things today about what it's like to live with someone with histrionic personality disorder.
