This video, I'd like to speak to you about valuation of dental or medical practices. One of the biggest challenges when a doctor wants to sell their practice is trying to find a buyer that fits the profile of the existing doctor. Now, if this is a group practice, this obviously gets much easier because of the fact that their number of doctors involved in that practice. But when you are a solo practitioner, what happens is that especially in cases where you are over specialized, you pretty much have been compensated well for your services because of your highly skilled talents for many years. But it is very, very challenging and difficult to find a replacement placement. So when you start out your practice, it's a good idea to have some sort of an exit strategy in mind and try to decide which direction you're going to go if you want to specialize in a niche area of your field. It's an excellent, excellent thinking because that gives you competitive advantage and you, you actually owe it to your patients to provide them the best quality care. However, if you mix that with the core of your business, you're going to run into some problems. So obviously, always try to remember to keep the core of your business very simple. An example of that is the.
Practices in the United Kingdom that are part of the national health system. They typically are valued much higher than a fee for service practice, unlike United States. And really the thinking behind it is that when someone buys a practice, even though the patient's fees may be much lower and a dentist or the doctor has to produce much higher volume of patients, they're typically systems in place or operational efficiencies and processes that can allow the practice to generate cash flow on a regular basis. So.
As far as the exit of the practice is concerned, we're going to look at various methods of valuation. If you're a solo practitioner, the valuation is pretty much a percentage of your revenue, no matter where it is in the world. If you are more like a group practice and if the production of the clinic, the revenue is not highly dependent on you as a person, then we'll look at some comparables. We'll be also looking at the discounted cash flow to see how you compare with the rest of the clinics that has been sold in the area. Now, now, if you're a public company, obviously that is much, much easier to determine because of all the historical data that are available on comparable public listings. But if you are a private solo practice, you pretty much have to look at all of the assets and look at obviously various, you know, factors go into the practice, such as the location, how old the equipments are.
What type of patient base you have, and so forth. So my Recommendation, practicing over 27 years, being in dentistry for 27 years, owning chains of dental centers, I will suggest and recommend that you.
Do not try to carve out the niche for your practice, but rather try to keep the core of the business fairly simple. So when you're ready to exit, it's much easier to find investors and someone that can replace you. I will be happy to answer any questions you have.
