When I visit my clients, one of the most overlooked dental treatments is periodontal treatment. One of the biggest problems I see in dental offices is that the patients do not really understand the difference between a regular dental cleaning as well as a periodontal treatment. And I think it has a lot to do with, with the way the providers, meaning the dentist and the dental therapist or the hygienist are communicating with patients. So one of the keys to higher productivity is the use of a periodontal report card. I have used this periodontal report card in number of my client offices where we have increased their hygiene production up to 300. 300%, you correct, you heard it right, 300% by simply using this periodontal report card. So let me go through this periodontal report card and let you know what that is. Basically, when a patient comes in for a dental hygiene appointment and the hygienist does their periodontal checking, possibly using periodontal probe, looking at X rays and so forth, they can go ahead and fill out this periodontal report card. And this is an editable version that you can order for your office and put your logo on and basically.

Different stages of periodontal health. So it talks about gingivitis. Then it will talk about basically different stages of periodontal disease. It talks about what causes the periodontal disease and the mouth and body connection. See oral systemic connection. It is so, so important and is often ignored by patients. As a matter of fact, you can send a copy of this to your local physicians and doctors and ask them for a referral of periodontal cases to your practice. The other thing is about periodontal probe. A lot of patients do not understand what a periodontal probe is and what those measurements are. So in this pamphlet you can put in, as I have different recommendation of treatment based on the depth of their gum tissue. So if their gum tissue is only between 0 to 3 millimeters, they only need to come in every six months for cleaning. Whereas if it's maybe between 6 to 8 millimeters, then we need to set them up for periodontal flap surgery, osseous surgery, and so forth. Then you can have a menu of the recommendation and you basically go in, edit, put your own fees in, and write down what the patient needs to come back with. Okay. Or come back for. So they go through this. And at the very end of this pamphlet, it shows what products they need to pick up from your front desk. Again, that is an often an area where dentists fail to recommend products to patients that they can benefit at home by using it. So this is where they can put it in. There is a disclaimer page to understand about their treatment plan and the follow through. And you can send them home with couple of photos, probably retracted photos of upper anterior and lower anterior, as well as a lower lingual. View their teeth so the patients can take this home, discuss it with their family members and make a decision. Now, by giving them basically this periodontal report card, you make the patients own their problem. And once they understand what their problems are, then you can simply offer the solution.
