Dr. Barrett rates wellness trends in a quick-fire segment. He endorses cold plunges but passes on NAD IV therapy unless medically prescribed, gua sha due to injury risk and weak evidence, and juice cleanses because they're mostly just calorie restriction. Detox teas get a pass.
Dr. Barrett, smash or pass, wellness edition.
Okay.
Cold plunges.
Smash, they're great. Like you never feel good going into 'em, but you always feel good coming out of 'em. You're like, I've accomplished something and it's been like 15 seconds 'cause it's so painful.
NAD IV therapy.
I'd say pass for most people. It's not quite necessary. If you're going through some stuff and it makes sense with your doctor, then yes, go for it. But I wouldn't say for the general person.
Gua sha for circulation and lymphatic drainage.
I don't know, I've seen some crazy results. I would say pass 'cause it's just gonna be really damaging if it's not done right and there's not a whole lot of studies on it.
Juice cleanses or detox teas?
I'm cool with detox teas, but juice cleanses, no. There's too many carbohydrates in there. It's just gonna be like caloric restriction and it's not gonna really do much. If you're gonna fast, fast. If you want vegetables, don't juice them 'cause you're just releasing the fiber and you need that fiber to hold onto the glucose so you don't get glucose spike.
Collagen supplements?
Smash. Good stuff, like green wild-caught collagen, like the one I make, are really good and they improve elasticity of the skin according to numerous studies.
