Today we're going to shop for gluten free food. And it's hard to pick. So Donnie's going to show us all the best food in the store. Will you help us pick some good stuff?
Okay, I'm just going to, you know, we're just going to shop like I usually shop. So I'll show you what gluten free, dairy free things we get.
All right, Ava's going to help us, right, Ava? Here we go.
Okay, so like, here's where you're gonna usually get like soy milk, but you can also get lots of different kinds of rice milk. Hemp. Actually this hemp milk is, is not bad. I like it because it's thicker than rice milk. Rice milk is more thin. And then the. Also like the coconut milk one's gonna come in a small packages are nice because it's, you know, you can just get a small one and then you're not, you know, use. Because these last like a week in the fridge.
Oh, that's a good idea.
I'll get the little. I like to have some around. And the other problem with these things is that they usually put some sort of sweeteners.
Where do you look for the sweeteners?
So here in the ingredients. This is rice, brown rice.
Canola oil, vanilla flavor. So this one doesn't even have any gums or anything in it. So that's pretty basic that, you know, probably go over well.
Okay, so yeah, where's the coconut one you were talking about?
There's the nut milks too, which are good. But.
Like the almond milks, as long as you're not allergic to almonds or hazelnut, milk has been a favorite of mine a long time. Oh, here's my favorite protein bar.
Oh, protein bars. Which one do you like?
These are my favorites, like the Lara bars, the cherry Larabars. Why do you like this?
Because they're just basically nuts. Dates, dates, almonds, cherries. And you know, and they have. So they have protein from the nuts. I still only really eat like a third or a half at a time, but I like the cherry flavor.
Yeah, I think I saw one in.
Your car that was half this company. You know, we eat all the time and there are various shapes, so there's like the spaghetti version.
So does it taste different than the pasta with gluten in it?
I mean, it's been a while since I've had regular pasta, so I can't even tell you. But it's good, you know, it tastes, tastes like pasta. You had some the other day.
Yeah, I liked it.
And I like gluten, you know, whatever, spiral shells, every kind of shape.
So there any brands of gluten free pasta that are better than another?
Well, I like this brand.
And then tinchiada. What do you put on the pasta?
The trick is finding one that doesn't have sugar in it. This one we usually grab, it's just tomatoes, olive oil, onion salt, garlic, basil, black pepper, oregano. So that one is like a basic that we know doesn't have any gluten, doesn't have any sugar, but you can, you know. And is it organic? Does it say organic? I usually also try to get organic.
Oh, don't you like this mustard right here, the mustard?
I like this one, this garlic mustard. It just, you know, is a little bit fancy, you know, way of doing mustard, but you can really. And this one. So then you're going to want to make sure it says gluten free. Now I'm not sure what I do is if it doesn't actually say gluten free on there. As I just read through the list of ingredients. Mustard.
White wine, garlic salt. Now this has sugar in it, xanthan gum, which some people can't do. Spices, natural flavor, citric acid, celery seed, turmeric, garlic, canola oil, honey and salt. So then you, you know, there's not going to be gluten in there, but you can also get.
Which one is fine.
I'm not even sure if they ever say gluten free on mustard because it's kind of assumed, I think. But now this one doesn't have sugar.
So that's good.
What do you put mustard on?
Well, I like it on like, you know, when we make turkey. So we'll get some sliced turkey and Ella just eats plain sliced turkey. But I like to put mustard online so it gets a little bit. The other thing that really good actually on turkey, like we have a lot of turkey rolls and you can do it in a rice wrap or on gluten free bread, but I sometimes just skip the bread and the wrap. These things are good. This is like a tamponade of green olives and this is a tamponade of sweet red pepper. And so this you can put on the sandwich or probably would be good on pasta too. Okay, here's rice. So you can, you know, that can be a really. I have a lot at home already, but that's, you can do, you know, brown rice, for example, but there's a lot. Those are going to be all gluten free.
What do you put in rice.
Well, just, you know, it's more like you make the rice and then it's alongside of something else. Like alongside of a chicken or your fish. Fish for these crackers, which, you know is nuts. So if you have nuts, it wouldn't work, but it's. If you can have nuts. And we. Ella likes the hazelnuts. So we always. We call these the purple circle crackers.
So I should probably get a couple boxes. You can eat one of these in one sitting. We love these things. But there's, you know, other little crackers and I've tried a lot of these, these little twigs down at the bottom there.
Those are good.
Yeah, those are pretty good for a snacky thing. You want some?
Those, these nut thins. They're good with hummus yesterday. Yeah, those are good meat with hummus. Any other crackers you recommend?
Oh, yeah, these are very good. The Fiesta lime.
All right.
What else do they have in here? Rice, corn.
There's a little bit of evaporated cane juice, but they're tasty.
Those are as good as kettle chips.
You know, really like these. If you're trying to find something. A lot of these pirate booty and things are gluten free. And these are going to be gluten free cereals which you. Oh look, they even have an amaranth puff cereal.
What's that?
Amaranth is gluten free, dairy free. And it, you know, seems like it would be an easy way to make.
A gluten free is amaranth.
The brand amaranth is a grain. It's kind of like rice, but you cook it kind of like rice. So you can also get like some of these rice cereals or quinoa is also gluten free. So you can get that and make, you know, hot cereal and other things out of a quinoa.
So these are all like oatmeal instead of oatmeal, you eat these.
Yeah. Now oatmeal, you can get gluten free, wheat free oatmeal. Now sometimes oatmeal gets contaminated in the factory with gluten. So you want to make sure it says gluten free. Or.
Some people react to oatmeal because it looks similar to gluten. But so you can, you know, test that out and see. But if you're looking for something, you know, something else. Now my thing is always that these don't. They're not very high protein. Although this one, see this amaranth, it has 4 grams of protein, which is higher than most grains. So, you know, when you choose this over like a rice now that says 3 grams in one serving, so it's not that much higher. Actually, one serving has 4 grams. Slightly more protein. You're probably still going to want to add some protein with this in your meal. These are kind of.
Booyah.
Booyah. Natural snacky nibbles. Looks like they have peanuts. I wouldn't usually pick peanuts.
All right, so show me what cookies are good. We have these right now at home, don't we? This brand?
Yeah, the chocolate chips. This looked really good to me. This is like couscous because usual couscous has gluten in it, but this one is a brown rice couscous. But the one we made wasn't very flavorful. I think you'd have to really add some flavor to it. And quinoa is a great option. It's also higher protein grain, but you have to add some seasoning to it really, for it to be good. But in terms of cookies.
Which, you know, I mean, you want to do too much sugar anyway. And I tend to go for more like a piece of dark chocolate.
Oh, you like dark chocolate?
Hi.
Do you want to talk too?
Is it your turn to talk? We've been talking the whole time.
Yeah, these were good.
I thought these were, you know, good tasting cookies. If you're gonna have, you know, a cookie, but again, then you're running into sugar, so it's, you know. But at least there's some, you know, some good options. And sometimes too, we just make our own. I'll show you the mixes down here.
This is gluten free beer. Yeah. Oh.
Sometimes Ella will eat that. You know, again, it's, you know, got some dried fruit in there, but you can do a little bit of this with the cereal. And it has, you know, that could be a. An option. I've always liked granola, and it has, like, walnuts and dried cranberries in it. There's these. All these mixes for.
Which ones do you like?
I always look for Pamelas first, which is actually down here at the bottom.
Oh, Pamela is your favorite brand. Oh, and the bags.
That'S like, you know, you know, if I was gonna buy anything, I'd get this one because you can do for pancakes and you can use it for a lot of other baking things. And it's just. It just seems this mix works really well. Ella's been eating this since forever. She just loves that.
And then there's these others. I just got this one movie. Make them yet to see how they came out good. But we've made a lot of these. Cherrybrook Kitchen. Those are great. The brownies, the, you know, the cake free lasagna noodles and all this pasta all over again.
Now here they have organic pasta sauce.
Is there a brand that you like at Gamies?
Yeah. Yes. Amy says a lot of good things. Organic onions, organic tomatoes, nutrition department and no sugar.
So that would be, you know, even a better option, I would say, than.
The other one because it's organic.
Let's see here. What was on this side? Dressings. I always go straight for the balsamic dressing. And if these dressings will say.
Now this is Annie's.
Does it say gluten free on the front?
So it's your favorite. Annie's Organic Balsamic.
With soups.
You know what? I basically for using the frozen soups because I find it just tastes better.
Now we're here by the three.
This is Kettle cuisine.
Does it make like the same amount as a can?
Yeah, it's like, I mean, it's really like you could either eat the whole thing as 1 serving.21 grams of protein in one serving. So I would usually do half and half. Like I'll eat half a bowl and then eat the second half. This is chicken and white beef beans. Gluten free. This one is great. The chicken noodle is great. And it's, you know, gluten free. Noodles.
There's a lot of gluten free pizzas too. Frozen ones.
Likes this one.
Foods by George. Gluten free pizza. But she also likes the.
Right in front of us.
Just turned backwards.
Bella Monica. Gluten free. Now, she doesn't like anything on her pizza, so. And this would have mozzarella cheese. So these are not totally dairy free.
But you can add fresh produce on top of it, right?
Yeah. When I'm making it for myself, I did it all. Chicken, broccoli, onions. You know, you can add it to it.
Oh, yeah. And the chicken, we had rotisserie chicken last night. It was really good. Pulled it off. That'd be good on the pizza.
Have you had these before? Like a chocolate chip. Speaking of chocolate chips, you know, semisweet chocolate, vanilla, sea salt. Those are pretty yummy.
That does sound good. Vanilla and salt on chocolate.
And they're.
You know, gluten free.
Those are kind of fun. And they're really good with hummus too.
Hummus.
And chocolate.
Oh.
So I usually offer like a garlic.
I like a garlic hummus. Any chance to get some garlic Frozen section. You have these. See all of these nuggets come gluten free. So you can get gluten free chicken nuggets and tenders. And they also have plain.
Do they taste different? Ella likes them.
Oh yeah, we love these. They also have chicken breasts. Do you see that there? I don't see it at the moment.
But coconut chicken breast. But it looks like that's gluten.
Gluten free garlic parmesan. But the parmesan is going to be dairy. But yeah, you could do, you know, garlic parmesan, gluten free chicken breast and then the. But they also usually have a plain with no breading on it at all. I also like these little, you know, sausages. They make these like either chicken or turkey frozen sausages. So again you can take it right out of the freezer, defrost it.
There's also this is gonna be, you know, the salmon. I actually you can either get it this way or they have it at Costco where you can get a bunch of wild Alaskan salmon frozen.
What do you like to put your salmon on?
Well, I mean I just. You mean on it. I usually would put like, you know, I put ginger or sometimes nothing. We just salt, salt and pepper. But it's also going to be gluten free and you know.
No antibiotics used and so on. Ella likes these turkey snacks too. No preservatives, you know, in her lunch she'll use those. And then there's turkey bacon which I think is a great breakfast solution to just do turkey bacon. We should get some of that.
Say like ground beef and filets.
Then you know it's gonna be no hormones, no antibiotics, any of that's the nice thing. When you come in this store. You don't even have to work hard because you know it's all gonna be a good source. These actually these chicken bites. Dino chicken bites. That's one of Ella's favorites.
Chicken bites. Oh, carts rolling, gluten free chicken.
Chicken bites.
We call these dino chicken. But you know, I keep them in the freezer and it's easy to heat them up and.
Yeah.
Coconut milk creamer. Is that it?
You know what? That. There we go. That's my. I wonder what's in there. Maybe it's gonna have something. So it's soy free, dairy free.
Coconut flavor is like a good alternative or why do you like coconut?
Yeah, it has a little cane juice in it. But yeah, if you were going to use. If you needed a non dairy something for your milk, you could use a coconut creamer for sure.
Need to get some butter. I usually even dairy free use butter. It doesn't, it doesn't have the same impact as other dairy. So we'll just get that, you know, organic butter to use.
There's a nature of their doctor who came up with these.
You know, this is like, I think they're great because it's like, you know, you have like a protein, a chicken, you've got, you know, this one has edamame and quinoa and a frozen meal. So those are, those are great. And here's one that's salmon, Salmon, broccoli and rice.
Oh, yeah.
We like a toilet now. And it's going to be wild salmon. How often do you see wild salmon in a frozen meal?
Yeah, does sound good.
