How to Choose Between LEEP vs Escharotic Treatments

Hi, I'm Dr. Donny Wilson and welcome to How Humans Heal. In this episode, I'm going to be talking about cervical dysplasia, which is when there are abnormal cells on the cervix before it turns into cancer, specifically CIN 2 and 3, and the decision that many women have to make at that point, which is whether to have a LEEP procedure or to do a natural approach called escharotic treatments. So if that is a situation you're dealing with, then I think this video is going to be very helpful for you and for any women who are dealing with high risk HPV and abnormal Pap smears. This will also be helpful in case at some point you are in a situation of dealing with CIN 2 or 3. So let's first just go through some of the essential information about high risk HPV and abnormal cells and how we can identify them. And then we're going to talk about this decision about LEEP versus escarado treatments, what they are, what the advantages and disadvantages of each are so that you can think through this decision for yourself and how you're going to handle those abnormal cells on the cervix. I want to point out that high risk HPV can also potentially cause abnormal cells in the vagina and other areas of the body. I'm specifically in this video going to be referring to the cervix in for women related to high risk hpv. So what happens usually is that women go in for a Pap smear, which is I'm so grateful for the fact that women do have this ability to get screened for abnormal cells on the cervix and for now more and more often are tested for high risk HPV so that you can be proactive about your health and you can be proactive about preventing cervical cancer and preventing damage to your cervix, which we'll talk about in this video. As well as being proactive about being able to prevent procedures, which is what I focus on in my practice. I love to help women to protect themselves from high risk hpv, heal the cervix and prevent the need for future procedures, and prevent cervical cancer and other types of HPV related cancer. So that's where I'm coming from as a naturopathic doctor and midwife and I've been helping women for HPV and cervical dysplasia for over 24 years. So just know that that's where I'm coming from is my clinical experience helping thousands of women to be proactive, protecting themselves from high risk hpv. So what can happen is the high risk HPV think of it like it's irritating the cells of the cervix for some reason. It really goes after the cells of the cervix preferentially and it irritates them, it makes them inflamed. That's the first sign of HPV being active, is that the cells look inflamed. If we look at, we take them off with the Pap, we slip off themselves, we look under the microscope and they look like they're inflamed cells. Or if that virus is really bothering the cells, it starts to cause the cells to look abnormal, shape and size, and that's what they, as they start to become more abnormal cells. And it's a progression from low grade, low severity to moderate to severe severity of abnormal cells before they turn into cancer cells. So please know that this is a good thing, is you're catching it before it turns into cancer. And that's our whole goal. We want to catch it before it turns into cancer and we want to turn it back around, get rid of those abnormal cells and help your body to heal your cervix and get that virus out of there so that it doesn't have a chance to cause abnormal cells again. Now, in the conventional medical approach, what they do is they're doing the Pap first to identify is there abnormal cells on this, On a Pap smear, which is a quick screening and looking under the microscope. If they see any cells that are questionable, then the doctor will likely ask you to come back for a biopsy. And so with a biopsy, we use a procedure called a colposcopy. Sometimes we call it a colpo for short, C O, L, P O, colpo or colposcopy, which is when the doctor can actually look at your cervix with a microscope that has a filter, green light filter on it. So they can actually see where the abnormal cells are while looking at your cervix. And then if they see abnormal cells, they can do a biopsy of that area. So it's very specific to the specific area of your cervix where they see abnormal cells. And so it's considered more definitive to do a colposcopy and biopsy than it is to do a Pap smear. Although sometimes the Pap smear shows worse cells than the colposcopy. But we tend to whatever the colposcopy says, we tend to go by that because it's considered more specific, more sensitive to that area that looks abnormal. And usually your diagnosis is based on the colposcopy result. So then once you've gone through the biopsy, colposcopy and you get your results, then depending on the severity, that's where your practitioner will main mention the need for a LEEP or other procedure. If it's the low grade or what's called CIN1, it's not considered necessary to remove the abnormal cells because C1 can heal on its own. And I certainly see Women to heal Cin1 all the time. Using my comprehensive protocol. Everything from diet, mindset, herbs, nutrients, including vaginal suppositories, they're able to reverse CIN1 and get HPV to negative without having to do a LEEP or escharotic treatment. So if you're dealing with CIN1, please know that you can follow my protocol. And there's a high likelihood we're going to be able to heal your cervix than it is just by doing that. If it comes back, if your biopsy results come back as CIN 2 and or 3, then you're in the situation of deciding LEEP or escharonic treatments. Now let's talk about LEEP. So a LEEP procedure L, E A P, which in other countries it has a different name, referred to I think sometimes as a let's procedure. The LEP stands for loop electro surgical excision procedure. So they're removing abnormal cells and without removing part of the cervix. Okay, so the leap allows you to remove abnormal cells without removing the cervix. If you think about it as, you know, if you think about the skin on your hand, if you, you could slough off some skin, even if you think of on your face, a lot of times we have a facial and do exfoliation. Exfoliation is removing a layer of cells and the body grows back new skin. Right. Same thing on the cervix. The cervix you can, you can slough off a layer of skin, the tissue, the abnormal cells and the body can grow back those cells on the cervix. It's not actually removing part of the cervix, but when you have a leak procedure, there is a risk of scar tissue. The way they do the procedure is done, it can cause scar tissue. Now it's more likely to develop scar tissue when you have more than one leak procedure. And especially if they're doing the procedure around the opening of the cervix, it's more likely that there will be scar tissue developing. The procedure also takes several weeks or even months to recover. It can take at least two weeks to be through the initial phase of recovery from a leap. They suggest even not having sex or inserting anything vaginally for four weeks. And, and they say that it even can take six months for the cervix to heal after a leap. So they don't suggest trying for pregnancy for six months after a LEAP procedure. And if then they will go back and recheck the cervix, the doctor should go back within six months and recheck because the LEEP procedure does not kill the HPV virus. So all the lead procedure does is it takes off the abnormal cells, which is important. We need that. That's part one. We need to remove the abnormal cells. Part two is dealing with the virus because the procedure itself does not kill the HPV virus. And so when you go back in six months to recheck, there is some possibility that the virus could cause abnormal cells again. And this is what can happen. Many women are going through going back and there's abnormal cells again because the virus is still active. And then they have to go through another leak procedure. And this could happen over and over again, which is why many women don't just have one procedure. Many women go through having more than one LEEP procedure, which then increases the likelihood of scar tissue on the cervix and also could make it harder to conceive a pregnancy. For those of you who are wanting a future pregnancy, it can also increase risk of miscarriage and preterm labor. So a lot of women are concerned about these risks of a LEEP procedure. And if you have a single one LEAP procedure, one, the risk is lower. But it's important to know that the LEEP does not kill the virus. And so you. What I recommend is if you have a LEEP procedure that you absolutely get very proactive and I suggest following my comprehensive protocol because then I can explain, you know, express to you the greater likelihood of being able to get HPV to negative not only temporarily, but for well into the future. We are seeing women who are keeping HPV negative for more than 10 years after following my protocol. So it's absolutely possible to get HPV to negative and prevent it from causing abnormal cells again, but it's not in the standard medical system and it's not going to be from the LEEP procedure. So you need to deal with the abnormal cells and you need to deal with the virus in order to prevent it from causing abnormal cells. All over again. Now, the difference with a conization, because I mentioned what's a leap versus a conization? Conization, or what sometimes is called a cone biopsy, is when they actually remove part of the cervix. Remember I said the LEEP is removing cells, but not the cervix. With a cone conization, if you think of the cervix as the end of my fist here, they're actually cutting part of the cervix to do a conization. So this is more often done if your practitioner feels that the abnormal cells are spread further into the tissue. It's also much more likely to have the doctor recommended conization if you've already had one or two LEEP procedures. So let's say you could do one leap, and then the HPV causes an abnormal cells again, and you do another leap, and then you go back in and the doctor says, oh, the abnormal cells are here again. Then the doctor is more likely to recommend a conization where they're removing part of the cervix. And the thing with this is it cannot grow back once you remove part of the cervix like that. Actual, the cervix cannot itself grow back. So now there's more of an increased risk of miscarriage. They can do a procedure on the cervix once you're pregnant to try to prevent a miscarriage. But I feel like it's important for you to know that the more procedures you have on your cervix, including a conization, the more you're going to have to be proactive at preventing a miscarriage in a future pregnancy. And so this is why a lot of women will call me, because they really want to prevent all this. They want to say, hey, how do I get rid of these abnormal cells, get rid of the virus, and not have to go through this over and over again and not be increasing my risk of. Of having to do another leap or conization. Also, if it goes beyond that, if the abnormal cells go become even more severe, then your practitioner is likely to recommend a hysterectomy. And so other women are contacting me because they don't want to have a hysterectomy. They would rather remove the abnormal cells without having to have a hysterectomy. So if those are. That's what's going on in your mind. You know, can I avoid a leap? Can I avoid a cone biopsy? Can I avoid a hysterectomy? Because to me it's very important that you have all the information so that you can make an informed decision for your health. It really comes down to you choosing what feels best for you based on the information that you have. Did you recently get an abnormal Pap smear result and test positive for hpv? So I look forward to seeing you at the workshop. So let's talk about escharotic treatments. Escharotic treatments. And this is the thing, if you search online, you'll see a lot of different information because the word escharotics is used in different ways. In the past, escharotics were used even on the skin. But I'm specifically referring to a treatment that's called ascarotics on the cervix and it's using herbs and nutrients that slough off the abnormal cells. Right. We have abnormal cells, CIN2 or 3 and we need to slough them off safely and effectively. And this can be done with herbs and nutrients. It's actually a very traditional treatment, over hundreds of years old treatment on the cervix and it's very doable. I've been doing escarado treatments. I was trained to do them over 25 years ago and have been helping women with them ever since with a very high success rate. One thing you want to keep in mind is that different practitioners were trained differently with escharonics. So I can't speak for how everyone else is doing escarado treatments. I only know how I was trained. And I was trained at Bastyr University by practitioners who themselves had been practicing escarotic treatments for more than 25 years at that time period. And that's how I learned. And then I have been using them and teaching other patients and practitioners how to do escharotics for past couple decades and I see great results. What I can tell you is that when patients use escharota treatments, I never see a patient where anything gets worse. I've never had side effects or complications. And the, the cells always get better. So when they go back in for their retest, we see an improvement in the cells. And that's really the point of the escharonic, is to help remove those abnormal cells. Again, to address the virus, we're going to need to follow the whole rest of my protocol to, to make sure that your body can protect you from this virus. Because what is happening is the virus is taking advantage of the situation. Maybe you've been under a lot of stress, maybe you have nutrient deficiencies, maybe you have had had to take antibiotics or had a toxin exposure or all of the above hormone imbalances, then what happens is the virus is able to cause these abnormal cells. So we need to take a comprehensive approach to understand what's making you susceptible to this virus. That address all of those things one by one until we completely have your body back to optimal and able to protect you from this virus, which is absolutely possible and doable using natural approaches. Okay, so let me get back to the escharotic treatments. So escharonics, again, we use a vaginal speculum because we need to be able to see the cervix. So we use a vaginal speculum, as you've experienced in the doctor's office, and then we can see the cervix and we can then apply different natural substances. One is bromelain. Bromelain is an enzyme. You could take bromelain, you could swallow bromelain as an enzyme with your food and it's going to digest your food. Or sometimes we use bromelain, you can swallow it away from food and it will digest inflammation. So in this situation, we're applying the bromelain directly on the cervix to, to be like an exfoliant and, and take away those abnormal cells and inflammation. Right. So we can apply the bromelain on the cervix. There's no pain. Women usually don't feel it at all. And then we remove it using an, a very healing herb called calendula. Calendula we can use topically, including on the cervix, as a healing herb. So already you have a sense of like, wow, this is, this is, you know, using very natural substances. Then we use a combination of an herb called sanguinaria. Sanguinaria is known for how well it works against HPV and against abnormal cells and to support the immune system. So we use sanguinaria with zinc in a liquid form. And again here we're applying it on the cervix to remove the abnormal cells and to protect the body from the virus. And then once we remove the zinc sanguinaria and we then follow up with a vaginal suppository, herbal vaginal suppository that helps with healing of the cervix. So this is a, a brief, so you can get a sense of this is what's involved in an escharotic treatment. And the thing is, we, it's not just a single treatment. You need to. Usually the standard protocol is 10 treatments. So again, you need to be weighing out. Like with a leep, you just do one LEAP procedure, hopefully, and then you follow my protocol and hopefully not need another LEAP procedure. With escharonics, you're going to be doing this procedure either in the doctor's office or I train you how to do it. And you do this twice a week for five weeks for a total of 10 treatments. Sometimes we have to work around your menstrual cycle. So it might be over six weeks, but the general idea is to. And you want to have two days in between. So we usually can do about two treatments per week and that's over about a six week period of time. And so it's more time intensive. Right? It's going to, you're going to be putting in more time and it's out of pocket cost. Whereas a LEAP is generally covered by insurance. Right. You can get a pap and a colposcopy and a LEEP covered by insurance as carotid treatments. And a natural approach to addressing HPV is generally an out of pocket cost. So a lot of women are weighing it out that way, okay, do I want to do one leap because my insurance will cover it and hopefully then I can prevent it from coming back again. Or some women are saying, wait a minute, I do not want to risk damage to my cervix and I don't want to go through another procedure. I want to do whatever I can with a natural approach. And that's when women will choose to do the escharoto treatments. But it's very important that you make an informed decision because it's your body. And I feel like that's what always comes back to that, right, Is like, what do you feel best about for yourself in your life? What resonates with you most? And to then be able to reach out to a practitioner like me so that I can look at your Results and we can talk through and say what makes sense in your situation. Does doing escarado treatments make sense for your case? And are you. Do you feel ready to go down that path and to know that it's not just about doing escarado treatments, that that alone is not enough, that escrow treatments will help to remove the abnormal cells, but we need to make sure we get that virus handled or else it's going to cause abnormal cells all over again. So that's why it's very motivating at that point to say, hey, I got rid of those cells and I want to make sure sure they're not coming back. And that's why not working with me. Usually if you have CIN 2 or 3, you'll be working with me one on one because I want to make sure you're following my protocol really to get the best results. Because it's not just because you were exposed to this virus. Most all of us are exposed to HPV virus. It's not just the exposure. It's there's something happening in your system that's leaving you vulnerable and we need to figure that out and address it in order to get that virus to stop causing abnormal cells and to get you out of this cervical cancer risk zone. Because my goal is to help as many women as possible to heal the cervix and prevent cervical cancer. We can drop cervical cancer rates drastically by doing this. And that's why I'm so glad to be sharing this information with you about what escharotic treatments are, how to know whether that might be an option for you. They the escharotic treatments are not painful. Many women ask me that, is it going to be painful? What I find is that a colposcopy, if some of you have experienced a colposcopy or biopsy, the escharotics are less painful painful than a colposcopy. Sometimes in the first escarado treatment, you may experience mild uterine cramping, like mild menstrual cramps for up to half an hour, but it's very mild. And a lot of women don't experience that at all. It's just because we're applying substances on the cervix and sometimes then the uterus decides to be protective and cramped a little bit. But it's no, it's not considered painful. You do not need any kind of pain medication and, and it's, you know, not something that women, you know, report or experience. Also, we do not see damage to the cervix. There's no, after escharotics. There is no increased risk of miscarriage or, or preterm labor. I don't see any of that. So when you're making this decision between leap and ascrotics, the decision is leap because if you're wanting to try to have a single procedure that's covered by insurance and then work to prevent it from happening again, or ascrotics because you're wanting to prevent damage to your cervix, prevent the risk of miscarriage, prevent, prevent future issues along with my protocol, then you will be preventing abnormal cells from happening again and preparing yourself for pregnancy if that is in your future. We find that as women follow my protocol to address hpv, they end up improving their fertility and it is an out of pocket expense, but it can be well worth it if it's saving you from future procedures and risk of cervical cancer.
