Once you get a cold. Well, Dr. Danielle Wilson is a natural health expert and a naturopathic physician, and she's here with some natural cures that actually work. Dr. Donny, thanks so much for coming in.
Oh, you're welcome.
All right. So people get a cold and they're so nervous, you know, that they want to just, like, get some antibiotics. That's a huge mistake. Because colds are viruses, right?
Yes, exactly. So what we want to do is, even before they catch the virus, is to use something like a triple flu defense, which is a homeopathic remedy that prepares your immune system for being in contact with the virus. And once the virus hits, then you can use triple flu defense three times a day to help your immune system fight it off.
So it's about working with your immune system. And there's another product that you like called ehb. Tell me about that.
Well, the thing I like about EHB is that it has all the different remedies that you've probably heard about, like vitamin C and garlic and echinacea all in one bottle so that you're not having to juggle all these different products that you could get at the health food store. You could get this from a health practitioner or naturopathic doctor and be able to just take one bottle with you to get all of those great nutrients to be both supporting the immune system as well as being antiviral.
Right. So, again, it's not about curing it, but it's about shorting the duration and working with your immune system to help you get over a cold maybe a little bit better.
And the key is frequent dosing. A lot of times people think, I'm just going to take it once a day. But. But the key is, if you dose it every four hours, you're much more likely to accomplish that goal.
Now, okay, another thing. You say a hot shower, which I agree with, you know, clears up the nose and everything, but magic shot. Magic socks. What are magic socks?
Oh, it's a favorite name for, especially the kids in my practice, the magic socks. What you do is you take some just regular cotton socks, get them cold and wet. Like, just run them under cold water, put them in the freezer for a few minutes till they're nice and chilly, and then you're going to put them on your feet, cover it with dry, warm wool socks, and then bundle yourself up, get in bed.
Get in bed, warm up.
So what you're doing is you're increasing circulation throughout your whole body and stimulating your immune system by doing this. And you're going to relax there for at least 15 minutes. Sometimes you fall asleep and it helps to get your immune system to fight off this virus.
Well that's what I do when I get sick. I drink a lot of fluids. I bundle up and I rest as much as I can. And one of the fluids that I go for all the time is, is tea with honey. And that's another remedy that you like.
Absolutely. And you can actually use raw honey even more to support the immune system and be antimicrobial in the respiratory tract.
Right. Because honey has been a medicinal food for centuries. Right. It's been around for a very long time.
Absolutely. You might as well start with tea with honey. It's going to help as well with coughs.
Right. And I add a little bit of lemon and for me it's absolutely great. Dr. Donnie, thanks so much for coming. Really appreciate it. Some great.
