Should You Have a LEEP Procedure? Here's What You Need to Know Before Making a Decision

Dr. Doni Wilson, a naturopathic doctor with 26 years of experience, explains LEEP procedures for abnormal Pap smears and discusses why surgery doesn't address the underlying HPV infection. She outlines a root-cause approach using diet, supplements, and escharotic treatments as alternatives, with real examples of women who cleared HPV without surgery.

Did your doctor tell you that you need to have a LEEP procedure and now you're wondering, is that really true? Do I really need to have a LEEP procedure and do I have any other options to address an abnormal Pap smear and/or colposcopy result? Well, then you're in the right place. I'm Dr. Doni Wilson. I'm a naturopathic doctor and certified professional midwife, and I've been helping women with abnormal Pap smears and navigating HPV, high-risk HPV virus, for over 26 years. That means I've seen thousands of cases and all different situations and scenarios and helped women to navigate successfully to help them to heal their cervix, and many times to be able to avoid a LEEP or to avoid having another LEEP procedure. And not only that, but to clear HPV to negative and prevent it from coming back again. How does that sound? So if you've been hearing there's nothing you can do and the only option is to have a LEAP procedure or other procedure, then I want you to know your other options and what I've seen in my clinical practice over the years so that you can make an informed decision. So I'm really glad you're here, and I welcome you to subscribe so you can continue— we can continue this conversation and you can continue to learn from me about what you can do to protect yourself from high high-risk HPV virus. So I'm gonna go through some of the common questions that I get asked because I hear from so many women in this situation, and women in the United States. Please know that I also hear from women from around the world, from Canada to Australia and Indonesia to the UK, you name it. Women are dealing with this all around the world, and so this is such an important women's health issue that often doesn't get talked about. In fact, I've I find that a lot of women, their doctors didn't even give them their own test results and/or explain what the results mean. So let's start there. First of all, your doctor should be giving you your test results. So if you don't have your test results, I encourage you to contact the doctor's office right away and ask them to please send you your test results because it's important for you to have your results so you can communicate with other practitioners and so that you know what's going on in your body and that you can really feel empowered by understanding depending what's going on now and what's going to be going on in the future when your cervix heals. So the time the doctor will recommend a LEEP procedure— which, by the way, a LEEP procedure is a procedure to remove abnormal cells. It's used when there's more what are considered high-grade abnormal cells or dysplasia, otherwise known as CIN2 and CIN3. It's not used— a LEEP is not used if you have beyond CIN3. For example, carcinoma in situ or carcinoma, then LEEP is not the appropriate treatment. And if you have CIN1, which is low-grade, it's also not used for that. It's used specifically for CIN2 or CIN3, or what's sometimes referred to as high-grade dysplasia. Now, in other countries around the world, they might use a slightly different name for this procedure. What in the US is called a LEEP procedure, it could be called a LETS procedure in— I know, especially in the UK, they, they use that term. And it's essentially a way to remove abnormal cells from the cervix without removing part of the cervix. And so it's used as an initial procedure if you've just recently been diagnosed with abnormal cells, and sometimes it's used over and over again. So there's women I've talked to who've had LEEP after LEEP after LEEP after LEEP over and over again. In my mind, it's not supposed to be something that you have to do over and over and over again, not if you follow my HPV protocol. Our goal is to put a stop to this. If you had to have one LEEP, let's take care of this and get the virus to go away so you don't have to have another LEEP. But unfortunately, there's women that I hear from and that I know are even in whole Facebook groups filled with women who are being told they need to have a LEEP procedure, then they go and have the LEEP procedure, and then sometimes even within 6 months, the abnormal cells are back again, and the doctor says, "Now you need to have another LEEP procedure," or, if it progresses, Beyond the small area, sometimes then the doctor starts talking about doing a— what's called a conization or cold knife cone, which is when they remove part of the cervix. Or the doctor might start talking about doing a hysterectomy to remove the entire cervix and the uterus. And even then, there's women who've had a hysterectomy who contact me and say now the HPV is still present and causing abnormal cells vaginally. So what I really want to emphasize is that even if the doctor's office doesn't tell this to you, because most times they don't tell women this, that having a LEEP or having a conization or having a hysterectomy for that matter doesn't remove the virus. So you can have a procedure or a surgery and the virus can still be causing abnormal cells over and over again. And so it's not really getting to the root of the issue. It would be like if you're in your garden and you just take the leaves off the weed, the weed is going to grow back again, right? The abnormal cells are going to recur. In order to prevent the abnormal cells from recurring, we need to take the whole weed out by the roots. And to me, that means we have to get to the root cause of why your body is not protecting you from HPV in the first place. And what's known is that the human body can clear the virus and can protect us from HPV and cervical cancer. It's a certain percentage of people, small percentage, the research says 10%, I think it's maybe a little bit more than that, that are having a hard time having their body clear the virus and are more susceptible to abnormal cells. So I— that's where I focus. That's where I focus my research and clinical practice, is for women who have been dealing with this sometimes for decades and have not been able to get the virus to go away on your own, that's when I put on my detective skills and use the protocol that I've been developing for over 26 years as I've been helping women and learning from them. And thankfully, these women have been so gracious to share what's working for them and to encourage me to share this protocol with more and more women. And that's why I'm here. Doing these videos and sharing this information. So be— if you can be knowing that you— this information was sent to you by other women who've been benefited by this. In fact, just today in my practice, I spoke to two women who followed my protocol to address high-risk HPV and to re— to reverse the high-grade abnormal cells and now they have completely normal negative Pap smear results and HPV results and colposcopy results that the whole situation is completely gone and healed without having a LEEP procedure. Two women just today, and a third woman I spoke to today who's in the process of doing the same thing, and I'm confident will soon also have negative HPV and negative abnormal cells. So I want you to know that this is something that more and more women are choosing and following and proving is possible, and yet it's not something you're going to hear about in the doctor's office. In fact, when these women go back to the doctor's office, the doctor is like confused. Wait, what a minute, how did, how did this happen? How did the abnormal cells go away without doing a LEEP procedure? And they're they're confused because they don't learn that. They don't learn this process in medical school. They don't learn nutrition. They don't learn about nutrients and herbs. They don't learn about how to help you recover from stress or address the root cause. And they don't learn how to do Escherichia treatments, which I'm going to share about here in a minute. So I want to go through some of the other common questions that you might be having, such as maybe you're at an age where you're wanting to have a pregnancy, either a first pregnancy or another pregnancy pregnancy. A lot of times I hear from women who— that's the case where they, they want to have a pregnancy and then found out they have abnormal cells, and they're worried that the LEEP could cause damage to their cervix or risk their ability to conceive a pregnancy. And so this is a real risk because LEEP procedures are associated with scar tissue on the cervix, and especially if you need to go on to have a conization, then that can put you at higher risk of a miscarriage. So it is a concern, and that's why so many women end up really feeling like this— they want to do anything else other than a LEEP or other than another LEEP. And so I also talk to women who— and help women who've had a conization, and they're like, enough is enough, I don't want to have a hysterectomy, I need to finally deal with this virus. And helping those women as well to finally clear the virus, clear the abnormal cells, and keep it that way. So absolutely, there's another way to help your body heal and to maintain your ability to have a pregnancy and prevent miscarriages in the future. Maybe some of you have been— have a history, a family history of cervical cancer, you know. And that's the thing is it, it, there are women who their grandmother, let's say, died from cervical cancer in her 50s. And it's so sad to me because that means that in, if she, if her grandmother died in her 50s from cervical cancer, something could have been done about that. We could have helped, first of all, identify it earlier and prevent it. From progressing to cervical cancer. And so if you know you have a family history, then that gives you even more of an urgency and a, and a desire to, to change this pattern, right? You don't want to repeat the same thing that your grandmother went through. We want to do everything we can to prevent it. And even sometimes women again have had a hysterectomy and still the virus is testing positive. So I really want you to know the research confirms this. That having a procedure doesn't remove the virus. So it's, to me, not really a solution. It's really just delaying the inevitable. It's just you're like kicking it down the road a little bit. You're saying, okay, I'm going to remove the cells, but then that just delays it another 6 months for the virus to cause abnormal cells again because nothing has changed in your whole system, in your whole body. So of course, if if everything is the same in your body, in a physical level, emotional level, energetic level, then it's quite likely that the abnormal cells are going to recur. But in order to change that pattern, we need to change some things. And so the women that I see that are most successful when they are up against a LEEP procedure, right, if the doctor's saying, oh, the only option is to have a LEEP procedure, come back in and get your LEEP procedure, the women in Instead, they have a different thought. They start to think, "There's got to be another option. I will do whatever I have to do to avoid a LEAP procedure." And sometimes that's the thought we have to have in order to make the type of changes that are required, such as changing your diet, looking really hard at, are you consuming sugar? I'm talking about processed cane sugar. In quantities that just are not necessary for your body and end up lowering your immune system and, and throwing your blood sugar off track. That's the first place to start. And I know sugar is so addictive and so yummy. Believe me, I love it, the taste of it too. But if we just give in to sugar, we're going— it's like we're releasing control over our own body's ability to protect us from infection. So it's a matter of saying, wait a minute, I care more about my health, my future. I care more about my ability to have a healthy pregnancy. I care more about my ability to avoid a procedure or surgery than I do about choosing this food that has sugar in it or adding sugar to my food. And so you have to really get to the point of saying, what am I really choosing when I'm choosing to put sugar in my mouth, even if I don't realize it's there? Because it's a lot of times hidden in coffee drinks and yogurt and other kinds of snacks and salad dressings and condiments. If you start looking, you're going to start finding the sugars in so many places, and the, and the more we can start to eliminate it, the better you're going to fend off HPV. So that's a really good place to start. Sugar is also in any kind of, you know, ice cream, lots of cereals. I would just— for myself, I just don't buy cereal and I don't buy ice cream because if I buy it, it's going to be in my refrigerator. I'm going to want to eat it. So it just doesn't exist in my home. And that's the best way for me to prevent myself from eating it. And to me, that's a choice that I want to make because I know that I want to feel good. I want to do the things I want to do. I want to avoid cancer. And at this moment in time, I'm— I don't have cancer, and I don't have an abnormal Pap smear, and I don't have HPV. So I'm gonna keep on doing what's working, um, because that to me is important. So you have to really sit with yourself and say, what's most important to me? And then make decisions from that standpoint. And the women that I see who are making— that I described where they're going from CIN 2, 3, and saying, "I will do anything it takes," one of the first things they do is eliminate sugar. And the amazing thing is when you take sugar out of your diet and you really start getting enough protein and healthy fats, your whole health starts to change. Women who needed to lose weight lose weight. Women who've been having anxiety and mood issues or sleep issues have that improve. Women who are having digestive issues That gets better too. So much gets better by making some of these relatively simple and yet can be difficult because sugar is so addictive. Uh, next thing would be alcohol. We tend to choose sugar and alcohol when we're under stress. And the other thing that happens when we're under stress is our immune system drops and we become more susceptible to HPV. So I encourage you to ask yourself, have you been under a lot of stress lately? Because of your job, because of your relationship, because of loss of loved ones, because of many financial reasons. There can be a lot of reasons for stress in our lives, and that we can't always avoid the stress, but what we can do is we can help ourselves recover from the stress. And the best way to recover from stress is not by eating sugar and alcohol, It's by choosing activities and supplements that help you recover from stress. And we just don't learn this in elementary school or whatever kind of school. We don't learn it. And so it's just something we have to hear and put into practice little by little. And so these are some of the starting places where women begin when they work with me, either in a one-on-one setting when I'm working with them one-on-one from wherever they are in the world, or if they're working in my group healing program for women called Say Goodbye to HPV, where women come together as a group and do their healing together, which is so amazing, is so beautiful. And so this is also possible for you. You can choose whether you might do better in a one-on-one setting or in a group setting. What if you tested positive for high-risk HPV virus and you don't want to wait around and see if it's gonna go away on on its own. For many women, high-risk HPV can linger for years, taking a toll on their health and their peace of mind. I'm Dr. Doni Wilson, HPV expert, and I've been helping women for over 24 years to clear HPV to negative. I created the HPV Kickstart program as a simple, effective way to support your body's natural ability to clear HPV. This is not about waiting and hoping. This is about taking action. In fact, thousands of women have regained control of their health by following my protocol, and you can too. You deserve to take back control of your health. Join us today. Now, if you're dealing with CIN 2 and 3 and you say you decide to have a LEEP, right, because we do need to address those abnormal cells, if you have CIN 2, 3, I don't recommend ignoring the cells. That's not what I'm saying. Don't ignore those cells. Those cells are your signal to say you need to do something different. Please do something different. Don't just get a LEAP. We gotta change up the environment inside on a physical level, but also emotionally and energetically. And, and I cover this in others of my videos too. So you, if you have CIN2/3, I really urge you to do something. Don't wait till it gets worse. Better to take action now. Now, yes, one option is to follow your doctor's recommendation and get a LEEP procedure. However, don't stop there. We have to make sure we get to the root of this and clear the virus so it doesn't recur. So you can do a LEEP and then follow my HPV protocol, either in one-on-one care or a group program. To help you really be able to finally clear the HPV virus using diet changes. There's so much more than avoiding sugar and alcohol, by the way. I guide you through that every step of the way and have a whole blueprint and suggestions for you to follow, recipes. You also need to get the right supplements at the right doses, which you're not going to find out there. I, I look on the internet, I ask ChatGPT, it's not there. So if you want to know the doses that are really working, I would say, why try to recreate the wheel and solve it yourself when I can provide it to you in one-on-one care or in my program? In fact, I have practitioners who are my patients and participants who— they're practitioners who are in the medical care system and they are coming to me to help them to clear HPV and abnormal cells. So you're gonna want to address the abnormal cells either with a LEEP or whatever procedure your doctor's recommending, and Dr. Doni's HPV protocol to make sure you completely clear the virus by getting to why you're susceptible to the virus in the first place and healing your vagina. Oh my gosh, this is huge. What— I was talking to one of my patients who's also a practitioner today, and she was saying how she's been to so many gynecologists and they didn't tell her anything about healing her vagina, healing her vaginal microbiome. And it's only working with me that she was finally able to heal her vaginal microbiome and get rid of yeast and get her good bacteria back on track and to clear HPV. So it's just, just know that even practitioners going to practitioners, they don't get help with the vaginal microbiome either. As much as the research exists, it doesn't exist in the practitioner's office yet, unless you come to my practice, and then it does happen because I've been helping women heal their vagina and heal their vaginal microbiome for over 26 years. So it's— this is what happens around here, right? We actually help you heal what's not being healed. And I know it can be hard to believe because you've been dealing with this so long. It shouldn't be that way, but it is, and that's but there's things we can do. Now, I want you to know, some of you might be thinking, is there an alternative to the LEEP, right? If you're like, okay, my doctor's recommending a LEEP, but I really rather not have another LEEP, and I don't want to have the scar tissue, and I don't want to risk damage to my cervix, and I just don't want to go through another medical procedure because these medical procedures can be traumatizing. So many women describe how painful and traumatizing it can be, let alone The women who also report other side effects from a LEEP— there can be other side effects to a LEEP procedure, whether that's changes in your menstrual cycle, could be pain, could be vaginal discharge, could be abnormal bleeding. There can be other side effects to a LEEP procedure. That's important to understand before you choose, because the doctor may not tell you, and they just think, oh, just do a LEEP. They make it seem like, just do this LEEP and you'll be done, but actually it's usually not that simple. First of all, it could be a painful, traumatizing procedure. For some women it's not, but you just don't know. And then it can cause other side effects afterwards, and it doesn't prevent a recurrence. So if you're up against, should I get a LEEP procedure and what else can I do, this is when sometimes women contact me about something called escharotic treatments. So escharotic treatments are a traditional treatment. That means it's been used for hundreds of years by herbalists and naturopathic doctors. It's a treatment on the cervix using enzymes, specific herbs, and nutrients in a specific sequence that I was trained in over 26 years ago and have performed hundreds and hundreds of times. And I have taught other practitioners and patients how to do it themselves. You want to be working with someone who has a high level of experience with escharotic treatments, like what I have, like what I just described. I wouldn't be just going to anyone who is— doesn't have experience with escharotic treatments. But I want you to know that I have been able to train women to do escharotic treatments, and so that means you don't necessarily have to come to me in person. I can teach you how to do escharotic treatments from where you are. And escharotic treatments allow you to use natural substances to slough off the abnormal cells without causing scar tissue or damage to your cervix. And it's very effective, like more than 95% of cases have complete resolution of the abnormal cells. Now, it's important to know that you don't just do the Escuadra treatments in isolation. It's important that you do the Escuadra treatments in combination with with my HPV protocol, because I see sometimes women kind of think, okay, I'm gonna mostly focus on the Escharotics, but if they don't do the diet changes, the supplements, and the vaginal suppositories that I recommend after the Escharotics, then they might not be as successful at completely clearing the abnormal cells and HPV. It's really important that you take this seriously and do a comprehensive approach. Believe me, I get it. If you could cut it short and do, do without some of these steps, I would tell you that. But I want to share with you so that you really have all the information that the women who have the fastest resolution, the highest success of getting to negative, they take this situation and they make it their priority. They decide, "I'm going to do everything I can for the next 3 to 4 months to change my diet, take the supplements Dr. Doni recommends, and do these escharotic treatments and then do the suppositories. And when women put that kind of intention and focus on this and follow exactly what— how I guide them, they're the most likely to get to the negative result. And then I guide them how to maintain over time. We don't just drop off at that point. We got to keep on going to maintain that new level of health that you've established. And sometimes that also means we need to— if you've been exposed to toxins We need to help you detoxify. If you've got hormone imbalances, we need to help you balance those hormones. If you've had nutrient deficiencies or trauma, we need to continue helping you to recover. Gut health, microbiome— we need to heal all these levels so that your body is able to maintain and prevent HPV from coming back. It's not necessary to avoid sex. A lot of women say to me, do I need to avoid intimacy with my partner? Do I need to you know, avoid having sex. And I find it, it's not necessary. Some women choose to avoid intimacy while they're in this process, but it's not essential. You— because here's the thing, it's not just about avoiding exposure to HPV, it's about helping your body heal so that it can protect you. So that's a really important distinction that I think a lot of times may really help women to see, hey, this isn't just about being exposed to HPV, this is about how do we help your body protect you because you— we want you to be able to be resilient to HPV even if you're exposed at some point in the future. So some of you, when you've been through this, especially if you've had multiple LEEP procedures or other procedures and still the HPV keeps coming back, you might be finding yourself to really be questioning the standard medical approach to HPV. And I understand, I would be questioning it too, even as a certified, licensed women's health practitioner in the United States, I don't think the medical system is doing enough for women's health. And that's why I do what I do to help women, because I see that it's not available. I see that it's not talked about enough. I see that many practitioners, even colleagues of mine who help some with HPV as well, still don't have adequate training. And so sometimes that's not enough. So if you're working with another practitioner and the HPV still hasn't gone away, then I recommend don't give up, contact me, and let me help you get it all the way gone, because that's where you can really see this happening. And it's very common to kind of see now a greater perspective and realize that the medical system isn't meant for helping you to prevent cervical cancer. It isn't meant for helping you to, uh, get rid of HPV. The standard medical system is offering procedures and medications. In this case, there isn't a medication, so they're offering procedures to remove abnormal cells, or they're offering procedures to treat cancer. That's their specialty. And so once you kind of understand that's the deal, if you need a Pap smear, that's the place to go. If you want a LEEP procedure, that's the place to go. If you want to avoid a LEEP procedure, you need to come to someone like me to help you to avoid the procedure and to avoid dealing with this any further. The women who receive these results, oh my gosh, they feel such a sense of gratitude, relief, freedom. Empowerment, confidence in their body, confidence in themselves, because now they listen to their intuition. They chose something different, they made a commitment to themselves, they followed through, and their body responded. And now they're working in sync with their body. They're making choices— dietary choices to supplement choices to working with me choices— that are in alignment with what their body needs naturally in order to keep them healthy. And that's huge. So if you feel at odds with your own body, a lot of women feel this, like, why is this happening to me? Why isn't my body working for me? I want you to know that there's a way to shift to that. Instead of being, why is this happening to me? If you can shift to, why is— how is this happening for me? This is happening for you to listen to your body. For you to choose differently, for you to be empowered about how you can heal yourself. And that this situation, the HPV and abnormal cells, is a single— a signal, a sign that something needs attention inside of you that maybe never had attention. In fact, trauma from childhood is also associated with increased risk. And so is there potentially trauma you've experienced way back in childhood or even in adulthood that could be stored in your pelvic area that's making you more susceptible to high-risk HPV. And let's help you resolve that. These are things that we can look into and we can address. So the question— the answer is yes, there are other options to helping you to address high-risk HPV. There are other options for helping you to address high-grade dysplasia. What if you have CIN1, which is low-grade? Well, if you have CIN1 or low-grade dysplasia, it's not considered necessary to have a procedure like a LEEP and escharotics would not— you would— luckily you're catching it before that. That's a good thing. Now you just need to help your body heal. Your, your body can naturally slough off the CIN1 when it has the right help, and it can grow new healthy cells. So we just need to help your body do that, and I can guide you on that using diet, supplements, vaginal suppositories, and figuring out what— why your body was susceptible in the first place. Then we can help your body to heal, and you can heal from CIN 1 down to negative. I see this in my practice every day as well. So if you're outside of the United States, this is all still available to you. You can work with me one-on-one you can work with me in a group program. I'll put the links down below so you can see what matches for you. You— I encourage you to understand your situation. If you'd like to have a conversation with my team and so we can look at your results with you and help you decide what's the best fit, feel free to reach out to my office and we can set up a, a free Zoom or phone call and talk it through with you so you can see what's possible and what you feel comfortable with. and then we can go from there and say, hey, let's take it from here. If you have more severe, like CIN 2, 3, I would say it's usually better to work with me one-on-one because that's a more severe situation, especially if you're thinking of doing escharotics. We're gonna want to work with each other one-on-one, and let's prevent, first of all, you from having to have a LEEP procedure, from having to have another LEEP procedure, from developing cancer, and This is preventable. I really want you to hear that this situation is preventable and you can reverse it, even if the doctor's office has never told you that you can. You can reverse it. And if you're wondering and wanting to see some more example cases, please go to drdoni.com/hpv and you're going to see a whole bunch of videos, audios, text messages from women who've been through this process and can't wait to encourage you to make this choice for yourself as well and gain your freedom from HPV and LEEP procedures and that whole pathway in the medical system. It's just, that's what they're trained to provide, but that doesn't mean that's the only option. So I'm so glad you found this video. I welcome you to join into my newsletter. You can click on the website and sign up for my newsletter so you receive email from me every week.
