WHY Not Wednesday with Sofia Dominguez

Sofia Dominguez, 10, walks through her personal operating system (Challenge, Clarify, Contribute) and applies it to her four dogs and horse. She's working on a book called Marshmallow, running a YouTube channel with five playlists, and building St. Francis Farm and Fields, a Catholic family lamb-breeding business with plans to expand to horse boarding and training on roughly 125 acres.

These last few years have made us question everything.
Our relationships.
Our jobs.
What constitutes an office.
And who we are.
In a.
World filled with chaos, confusion, and uncertainty. It's time for some clarity. It's time to start understanding one another.
It's time to start understanding ourselves.
We envision a world where everyone knows their why. But even more, we envision a world where everyone knows their why. O s, their why, their how, and their what. The operating system that drives you, that lets the world know where you stand.
What your unique gift is, and most importantly, who you are.
Yos.
Are you ready?
Hello, everyone, and welcome to why Not Wednesday. We have a very special show today with a young lady who you're going to meet in a little while. Let me tell you a little bit about her. Sophia Dominguez is a 10 year old with big dreams who also happens to be my daughter. She has been around Y Institute as long as I have and has heard me explain the why discovery to thousands of people from my home office. During the height of COVID we actually shared an office. So because of that exposure, Sophia believes she has figured out the why of each of our four dogs and her horse, Cannoli. And she believes she can help you discover the why of your pet, leading to a happier pet family. So, Sophia, did I get. Did they get that interrupt introduction right.
There you are. Sorry, me and Lynette were fighting to get you on. Did I get the introduction right?
Yes, you did.
All right, so that. That is you. You. How many times do you think you've heard some me help somebody discover their why?
Oh, my gosh. Well, I've heard the complete and total thing probably at least 20 times during the height of COVID And I've heard you like, do bits and pieces of it at least minimum a hundred times.
That's great. Well, listen, you're getting some. Some love from some of our viewers. So Glennis. Do you remember Glennis? You were her on her John Maxwell Youth Global Youth Leadership Initiative. She said, I'm here and I'm so excited. And Linda Kirkpatrick, she's a friend of ours. She says hello, Dan, excited to see Sophia. And David Gregory says, I'm excited. This is going to be awesome. And Watson Jordan, another great friend of Y Institute, Anna of mine says, this is so great. Lynn Everett says, hi, Dan and Sophia. So I bet we are going to get a lot of comments today. Sophia, hey. Bella says hello.
I'll do my best to live up to your expectations.
All right, let's see what we can do. Sophia, so let's get started with what I always do, as you probably remember, is go through your WHY operating system. I do that with everyone. So your yos is challenge, clarify, and contribute. So what your why tells me is that you believe in thinking differently and living your life outside the box. You believe in having the courage to be different. You don't always follow the rules. And don't. I know that.
Embarrass me. Again, don't embarrass me.
All right. You like to create and innovate. You're a game changer. You like to be different and think differently, and you actually want to change the world. Does that sound like you?
Yes, sir.
What. What about that resonates to you?
Well, that resonates to me because as you know, there's a huge disaster upstairs from me, Always from me, always building all my barns and trying to make my upstairs look nicer and be more horsey and always look really cool. I am always trying to find ways to improve the games that we play and stuff. So, yes, that does resonate to me.
All right, let's talk about your how, Sophia, because you have the how of clarify when that tells me is you think it's important to make things clear and understandable. You're good at taking in lots of information so that you're clear on what's needed and wanted. And then you make it clear for others so you understand that when things are clear, you can make better decisions and move in the right direction. And you feel successful when you're confident that your message has been fully understood and received. Does that. Does that make sense as to how you go about challenging the status quo?
Not entirely sure.
Which part. Which parts do you do resonate?
Well, I always repeat myself a dozen times until I make sure all of my friends got what I. What I was saying. And I'm always more than happy to repeat stuff. And I also get slightly angry whenever they forget stuff.
Something. Right. So. Or. Or do you get mad at dad when I forget something? Yeah. So that's why you always try to make sure it's really clear, right?
Yes.
All right, that's important. Okay. So that's your how, and then your what is contribute. So what that tells me is that ultimately what you bring is a way to contribute and add value to others. You provide solutions that make a difference, have an impact in the lives of others. It's not so much that you have to be the face of the cause, but you want to contribute to it in a meaningful way. You want your solutions to Cause a ripple effect that enhances everyone because it moves us forward in a positive way. Does that sound like you?
Yes.
So what part of contribute do you love?
Knowing that I'm helping people.
Yeah. So, I mean, I've known that about you. You've been, you know. Of course. I've known you your whole life and you love helping people.
You knew me before I knew myself.
Exactly right.
Good job, Sophia. So, you know, we're going to talk about what is a yos certified pet coach because that everybody wants to know about that. We joked about it. We actually sent a link to our coaches telling them that we could help them figure out the why of their animals. And it was, of course, it was an April Fool's joke. But you seem to think you've got that figured out. First of all, you have four dogs and a horse. So how did you end up with four horses, Sophia?
I didn't.
I mean, four dogs.
Well, we have had Derby since practically before I was born, so he was a no brainer. Bo Peep, she came with the house. Toby was my fifth birthday gift. And Noche we basically rescued from Nana and Tatas.
Yep. And so which of those dogs is your favorite?
That's difficult for me to answer. It's probably definitely Derby or Noche. Because Bo Peep, you know, she ain't really that friendly. She just sleeps all day, so it's kind of hard to build that connection with her.
Right.
And while, as we both know, Toby is a gypsy.
Yeah.
He's gonna do what he wants, when he wants, how he wants, what, why he wants it.
Yeah. And, and Derby, you've been around him since he was a puppy.
Since forever. He has taken care of me through everything. Although I must admit, his insistent barking gets a little annoying. And Noche, he is always by my side when we go for runs. He always knows exactly how to make me feel better. And he is always right there by me.
Awesome. So let's see. So, so you've got Bo Peep, Derby. Bo Peep, Derby's the oldest. Then Bo Peep, and then we have Toby. Toby. And then Noche, and then Cannoli is your horse. And how old is she?
Horse years or human years?
Well, her years. Human years.
Okay. In human years she's 19.
Okay. So in human year, she's 19. And tell me, what do you think the whys of each of the dogs are and why?
All right, so we're gonna start with Derby. Because he is the oldest and to give him the due respect, we are going to start with derby. So Derby is definitely a contribute guy. Now, some of our dog.
Now some of our dogs. I have figured out their what. Their house too, or their whats. I can not quite figure out which one they are. But Derby's why is contribute, and.
So he is why.
Why do you say he's contribute?
He's contribute because he. He is.
Very. Always wanting to please you.
Yeah.
He'll do pretty much anything. And he is always doing his best to protect me or mom or you. And he always does his best to go fetch for you, even though he can't see the ball anymore. And mom used to tell me that when she used to take me for walks when I was little. Of course, I don't remember this because I was like, maybe five months or something, and he would walk in front of the stroller. He is very protective, but he always wants what's best for our pack.
Nice. That's cool, Sophia. So, okay, so Derby is contribute. What about Toby?
All right, Toby, he is a gypsy through and through. And his why. And. And I have figured out his why and his what or how.
Okay, so tell us his why then, his how then is what.
So I haven't figured. I don't know which one it is. I don't know if it's his how or is what. They kind of act as the same thing with animals.
Right? Okay, so what's his why?
So his why is definitely trust.
Yeah.
He is going to completely ignore you unless he knows what you're gonna do.
Uhhuh. So if he doesn't trust you, he doesn't want to have anything to do with you.
He wants absolutely nothing to do with you. I mean, just this last. Just this last year, and we have had him for five years maybe, and just this last year, does he come up and start greeting me at the door? So he normally he's gonna. He's very trust. Not saying that all trusts are gypsies, but he acts like a gippy. So just clearing that up in case somebody thought that for some reason, Bella.
Just made a comment a little while ago in her why is trust? So you got to be careful.
I didn't mean it that way.
So what do you think his how or what is?
So his how or what is challenge.
Yeah.
We both know he's always trying to get out of the fences. He's always trying to escape, and always trying to find a new adventure.
Yeah, that's for sure. And he wanders off. And how long does he go for?
Sometimes I think the longest he's Been missing is half an hour.
Yeah. He'll go wander the neighborhood and then we have to go find him. Right? Yeah. That sounds like a challenge. I bet Bella would agree. Trying that would be somebody with a how of challenge like me. Bella says, no offense. Take it. Thank you, Bella. And then look, somebody gave you another compliment. Watson said, great. Smile for the win. And Glenn has said, what a wise little woman. So you're getting some, some, some nice comments, Hugh Hornsby. Now you might. You got a really nice card from him recently.
I did.
Can you tell us how that made you feel?
Did it feel special?
I mean, it was very nice. That is.
And if you're willing to tell me your Social Security number, I'll elate on that as that is something that is kind of private. But it made me feel very.
Honestly, it really inspired me and I thank you. I really, really.
Not enjoy. Appreciated that card a lot.
Awesome. So, Hugh, if you're still listening, I want to make sure that, that you hear that. She said, you know, I still have not seen the card. You wrote such a good card. It was so personalized that Sophia hasn't shared it with me yet. But I love, I love Glennis's comment. What an innovative way to this to explain the Y concept through Sophia and her pet dogs. Never thought animals would have a Y2, so. And we haven't even finished them. Sophia, Melanie says, finally, yes. I love this. This is so creative and smart, says Linda. And Bill Summer says, I think the Y process could be useful in schools for sel. So excellent. Thank you, Bill. Bill works in the education sector, so you'll enjoy that. And look at that. Hugh Hornsby responded. He says, you're welcome. I am so proud of you.
Thank you.
So. All right, so we've gone through Toby, we've gone through Derby, we've got Bo Peep. Now what is boy.
Bo Peep is our right way girl. She does not change her schedule and only under the most extreme conditions will she change her schedule. She is a right way girl. She has found out a way and she ain't gonna budge from the way she made it work.
So she's. She's consistent, right?
She is extremely consistent. She maybe comes inside the house maybe probably five times a year at the most. Yeah, she is. She. We call her our nocturnal dog. She stays out all night and now defends the yard from coyotes. She once jumped into our sheep field and she did it. And she stays out every night. And no amount of bribing, calling, anything can make her change her mind. She is consistent and she is ready. She has even taken on Toby as her apprentice, which we think she has done because a few months ago, Toby started not coming in and he started hanging out with Bo Peep and guarding the yard. So she is our right way girl.
Yeah. She figured out a way to do it and that's. That's how she does it every single time because she gets results. Right. And she's trained Toby, which is really cool because Toby's a golden. Yeah. By the way, Toby's a golden retriever and Bo Peep is a great Pyrenees. So they kind of look alike. But Toby's like a smaller version of Bo Peep, right? Yes, for sure.
And when we brought Toby in, Bo Peep practically thought he. She was her. His mother.
Yeah. She's been taking care of him for a long time and he's learning from her. Would you agree?
I would, yeah.
So we've got one more. Who do we have that we don't know there why yet? Noche, who's just starting obedience school. He just started Monday. So tell us about Noche and his why.
So he is our challenge contribute dog.
He is. He.
Not trying to brag in any way, but he loves me very much. He is always by my side. And when. If we. If we stop walking, he just looks at me and waits for my command. That is definitely the contribute coming out in him. But he's a challenger. He. He goes out with Toby and if he. And if he thinks there's a. Or when we're on our runs and he wants me to speed up, he doesn't pull, but he tugs a little bit and puts pressure on the leash, telling me to speed up a little bit.
Yeah. He doesn't like. He doesn't like the doing the same thing over and over, does he?
He does not.
That's awesome. So Melanie says, hey, we have the whole morning devotional here. We do. We have Linda, we have Glennis, we have Rose, we have Melanie. Thank you so much for being here, guys, for listening to Sophia. So. And Hugh says, sounds like a leader. I think a lot of people would agree with you, Hugh. So, man, Sophia, we've just gone over the dogs, their wives. What about Cannoli, your horse?
All right, so she's all. She's getting on in years. And with all animals, as they start getting older, they start mallowing down. So there is no way what to really tell. But right now she is a very right way girl. Right now. No telling what she might have done. And I am not with her 24 7. So I don't really get to see a lot of her attitude that much. But definitely with me, she is a right way contribute horse.
Nice. Okay, so man, you're getting into the house. I have. We're gonna have to tell Dr. Gary about that. That you now are starting to figure out the house of the animals too.
That's awesome, Sophia. So. Oh man, I had so many questions for you. Well, Sophia, you know, one of the things I forgot to put in the profile is you're working on a book and gone through that like a few different versions of it. And I know you're working on the fourth draft. Yeah, you were on the fourth draft. So that's gone through a few iterations. Right. You've just started with one concept. What is it, what is it called?
Right now, currently it is the. It is a book called Marshmallow. It is about a quarter horse Arabian mix.
Cult. For those who don't know horse terminology, that is a young male horse and it. In the first book. I'm deciding whether to make this a series or not and continue all of my other ideas off of it or rather to just leave it as a standalone and do all my other ideas separately. So right now it is a. It is a standalone and it is about a young cult who is bred, raised and bred. This is told from his point of view who is raised and bred for barrel racing when he turns 6 years old. And somewhere along that line, mystical and magical things start happening to him. Adventure, terror. And I'm not gonna get too much into that because I haven't really written that far yet as I am only on the first chapter of my fourth draft. So it is a story about this horse who's just bred and born to barrel race. Somehow stumbles across.
Magic. I suppose I'll put it.
Yeah, very cool. So look, you got. You might have an invite from Lynn to be on his show. So Sophia, we might filling out your calendar and make sure it doesn't conflict with your school schedule. All right. That is a. A new connection of mine on LinkedIn and she showed up. She is in California doing a some yoga training. But she decided to join us today. So thank you so much, Clavette, for joining. Linda says Sopia is awesome. What a beautiful mind for a young one. I see good things for her leading in school, in her community. So you know, Sophia, we. You have a lot, a lot of big plans. So you talked about your. Your dogs, we talked about your book. So tell us, what is St. Francis Farm and Fields So we have a little project you're working on here.
St. Francis Farm and Fields is the business that I want to start. This is my dream business. This is where I want to be.
Yeah. What do you mean by that?
In 20 years, this is going to be my hardcore base. This is where I want to work, this is where I want to live, this is where I want to dream. This is where practically everything else that I ever want to do is going to come together.
Okay, so what is, what is St. Francis Farm and Field?
St. Francis Farm and Fields is an all original family owned and operated Catholic lamb breeding service. Now, it is more expensive to slaughter our lambs because we prize them for high, for high quality.
Right. Okay.
They are. We like to mainly sell them for breed, for more productive offspring and for 4H.
Okay.
The hopes and dreams for it is to eventually bring St. Francis Farm and Fields into a horse boarding, breeding and training.
Whoa. Are we going to do all that on this, on this property? Sophia?
No.
Okay, so what's the dream?
So probably for the ultimate dream, we are probably going to need somewhere around 125 acres.
125 acres. And so you're going to make money from buying and selling the sheep. Save that and then buy more land until you have enough. 125 acres, Sophia. That's a lot. How am I going to mow that?
You're not. It's going to be perfectly manicured by the horses.
By the horses and the sheep. Right?
Well, the sheep will be kept in a run around pasture because our horses will be of high quality and it's going to be fairly expensive to board them there because we, because we believe that horses are our friends and they should be treated as our friends and family. They're not just animals. So I don't know how many people here have been to Las Vegas. This is what my dream is. To make this the Las Vegas of horse boarding and breeding.
Nice. Sophia. So let's say we got a couple of comments here. First of all, Melanie, you know, from, from your mouth to God's ear, she'll take care of you and your retirement years. That would be great, right, Sophia?
And then Linda said, already saving for your mansion.
All right, thank you. Yeah. Because am I not going to live here when I'm old? You're going to put me in a mansion somewhere else.
Yeah, dad.
Will it be near a golf course?
I don't know how happy Mom's going to be about that.
Linda says you can be on her show afterward. Bernie Montoya. Hey, Bernie. That's awesome that you're listening. Bernie's a classmate of mine, you know, he was our quarterback, Sophia, when I played football in high school.
Pleasure to meet you, sir.
Hey, great to see you, Bernie. Thanks for being on. And Linda Kirkpatrick says, great foundation. So, Sophia, man, I'm running out of questions for you, but let's Talk about your YouTube channel. You have a YouTube channel? What can people. What are people gonna find if they go visit your YouTube channel?
All right. If you're into YouTube videos or if you want to watch some TV and you just don't have enough time, right. To watch a full show, YouTube offers hundreds of cute short stories about pretty much anything you want. So my. On my channel, the. There are. You're going to find four.
What you.
Might call them, four different series.
No, four different.
Albums. Album thingies.
Okay. Channels.
No, not channels. Yeah, playlists.
Yeah, gotcha.
Four different playlists. On the first playlist you're gonna see, it's gonna be called Wild and Free season one. This is the story of the. Of mustangs who roam in some forgotten island and they. This is the story of their adventures as they are wild and free and they.
Are living it up.
Okay.
Through a war, through protection for territory, through a volcano attack.
Okay.
That is what the first series entitles. All right. Wild and Free season two. It's in the process of making. This follows the main character as she is all grown up and she has a herd of her own and all of their adventures.
Okay, so that's awesome.
The next one you're gonna see. And actually, there's five. I misspoke. There's not four, there's five.
Okay. You have five different playlists on your channel.
Yes. Okay, so the. The next one. This one is called.
Sunrise Stables.
Okay.
This is my sleigh. Slikes are much easier to work with and they honestly do a little bit better filming. So this is my new series. This one focuses on owned horses, stable adventures, stuff that would happen in a barn.
So that's more like domestic horses, not the wild horses like the other ones.
Correct.
Okay, so that's three channels or four. How many have we got to.
I think we've gone through three.
Okay, so there's. You got two more.
Two more. The fourth playlist that you'll find is called. Is called Other. Very simple. It. What It. They are not. They are not Wild in Free Season one. Wild Free Season two, or Sunrise Stables. And so they are just videos that I thought would be funny and that I just made on A spur of the moment decision. I have one where my horses are singing. We don't talk about Bruno from Encanto. Just something that I thought would be fun. And some other fun videos like that. The fifth one is holiday specials where I take my horses and make up a whole new adventure like that and then put it there for extra spice and fun, just to get holiday.
Excellent. So I just put the link to your YouTube channel, Sophia, in. In the chat. So some people were asking for it. I think I got it right. So that's Cannoli, Schleich and Briar videos. Schlich and Briar videos. So. And that is that. Did we get all the channels or all the playlists?
Yes, you did.
Watson says stuff like that happens in a barn. Interesting. Remember, if you don't clean it. Let's see here. If you don't clean it out, you will get rats. What happens if we get rats, Sophia? What happens? What does mom do?
I'm not gonna embarrass her on.
You're not gonna embarrass her. Okay, I won't embarrass her either. So, Sophia, let's see here. Wow. We've talked about St. Francis Farm and Fields. We talked about your YouTube channel, talked about your dogs. We talked about the horse. Oh, my gosh. We've gotten a lot. We've gone through a lot. So what now? Are you. Are you actually coaching pets? Have you ever. Have you ever done anybody's dogs or cats yos yet or why yet?
Well, only our own, because no offense to Dr. Gary, but he hasn't not put it out publicly for me yet. I can't do them. I can't do other people's pets if you don't bring them to me.
Right. Okay. So he's got to get that certified. You got to get that official certification. Right, from Dr. Gary.
Yes. It'll be $50 per pet for a one hour session with them. So I can really get to know them, figure it out, see what's going on with them and how to do it and really what they are to do a yos. It'll probably be maybe one hour classes for like a year.
Really?
An animal's yos is extremely difficult to figure out. Their why is not as difficult as their complete yos. As I said, I am only starting to figure out my pets who are here.
Who are here doing.
Who are here and are with us every day.
Right.
So these would probably be one hour sessions for a year. And these. This is probably going to cost somewhere around 150.
Oh.
Because I am in school still, so I do not have a lot of time.
All right, so Glenn has asked, could Sophia start a business training horses? Would that be something you'd want to do?
That is the part of St. Francis Farm and fields. Training, breeding, and boarding.
Training, breeding, and boarding. Wow, Sophia, so what would you say to someone who's thinking of getting their. Of doing their pets? Why? What would you say to them?
Do it.
Just do it.
Because as this show is called, why not?
Why not? Right.
There's a million reasons why, but there's pretty much very little reasons why not to do it.
That is awesome. So, Sophia, Linda says you should turn those playlists into series books. So all the playlists that you have on YouTube. It's a great idea. Linda, what do you think?
No offense, but I have, like, 35 books that I'm already 35 book ideas that I'm already starting on and getting ready to. And there is no way I'm gonna even be. Probably be able to publish all of those. And that is why we have YouTube.
All right, so you're not gonna do that? O Sophia. Well, that sounds like a great way to end the show. What do you say we end the show on that note?
Why not?
Why not, indeed. All right, Sophia, it's been great to have you. Bye, everyone.
Bye.
