Hello everyone and welcome to why to Y for the month of December. I am so excited to introduce you guys to our guest for this month. This month we have the why coach with us. I am Dan Dominguez, the Chief Growth Officer at Y Institute. And my why is to contribute to the success of others. My how is to challenge the status quo. And and my what is to make sense of the complex and challenging. Now that's going to make a lot more sense to you once I tell you what the nine whys are. For those of you that listen regularly, you'll just have to put up with us. But for those of you that are new, I'm going to give you a quick synopsis of the nine whys. The first why is to contribute. Contribute to a greater cause, make a difference, add value, or have an impact. The second why is trust. To create relationships based on trust. Third why is to make sense. To make sense of the complex things, especially if they're complex or challenging. Number four is better way. People with the why of better way love to find a better way to do things and share it with others. The fifth one is right way to do things the right way in order to get reliable results. The sixth one is challenge people with this why love to think differently and and challenge the status quo. Number seven is mastery. People with the why of mastery love to seek mastery and understanding and go deep into the topics that they love. Number eight is clarify. These are people that like to make things crystal clear to them. If it's clear, they can move forward. And the last one is simplify to decrease complexity. Even the definition of simplify is very simple. So one of the things we want to remind people, if you are listening and you don't know your why, you can go to whyinstitute.com www.whyinstitute.com and take the why discovery and use the code Y2Y W H Y T O W H Y and you'll get 50% off your why discovery. So, Steph McPhee, I can't wait to talk to you. Steph's life is dedicated to ensuring that everyone has the ability to live the life of their dreams. Her teachings are not only about the why, but most importantly about the why not. While our why grounds us and is the foundation of everything, the word why can sometimes stand in our way. Especially when it comes to starting and growing a business. So, Steph McPhee, welcome.
Oh, hey Dan. I am just so excited to be here and to talk about this mission. So fun. I love Just hearing you go through the nine whys, it just gets me energized every time.
You know, we base all our work at Y Institute is about the nine whys, and we recently launched the YOS discovery, which allows people to know their why, their how, and their what after taking a short assessment. So we found out yours, and we went over that. Your why is to contribute to the success of others, and how you do that is by making sense of the complex and challenging. And then ultimately, what you bring are better ways to move forward. How does that resonate with you?
Oh, my gosh. I have to admit, when I saw that, it was just like an amazing light bulb went off. Because I think everybody can struggle sometimes with that question, like, what do you do? And you say, you are the why coach. And then people are kind of like, okay, well, that's great. But so when you put all three together, to me, it was just like, exactly. And it's been so interesting since I had my statement now. And I have told people from past clients to just family and friends, and they're all like, that is exactly what you do.
So the how of makes sense. Have you been that person all the time that's always looking at stuff and you love solving problems?
Yes, actually, it goes all the way back to even being a little kid and doing puzzles. Like, I was huge at puzzles. I was always the person, too, that read everything and anything. And my mother loves to tell a story. When I was probably, I think, about six or seven years old, they put me in a kindergarten that was associated with a church, and it was different than the church. We went to a different denomination, and I was fascinated with what was all these differences. Why are all there all these different denominations, and wanted to go to the bookstore and buy all the different Bibles. They were out there, all the versions, and I read them, and it just showed right then that I needed to make sense and understand why all of this existed. And because it just. It fascinated me. And so supposedly I've been this way my entire life.
You know, it's something that we hear often when we take people through the process, when they discover their why, how, and what. One of the questions I love to ask when I take somebody through that process is, tell me about a time when you contributed to someone's success by helping them make sense of something in order to find a better way forward. And what happens is the stories just flow because that's what you've always done when you're at your best. Has that happened to you?
Oh, My gosh, yes. All the way back to my very first job was at a nursing home being a community assistant, community director. And you think about what that does, and that is actually going in and helping the residents live a better life, right. To enjoy their lives and all the different things that they were doing. And so from the very beginning, I have always volunteered. I have just been so passionate about the community. And when I get involved with something, I don't just show up once or twice because I see the issues and opportunities and I say, ok, here is where you are struggling and let's figure out why you are struggling and then figure out a better way to do it. So it is, like I said, it's been amazing. And I have found, even just over the holiday, you know, the time that we're in and I've been getting out and going to networking events, and that statement is so much easier. You talk about the 30 second introduction, right? Your 30 second pitch, and that's it. Like, I can roll it off my tongue so much better now by just saying that. And people get it. They're like, wow, that's so cool. Yeah.
Well, I love that you brought that up because I love telling people. It is so much easier tell people your why, your how and your than it is to try to talk about everything you've ever done. Because when you talk about what you do, you get compared to everybody else that does what you do. But when you talk about why you do what you do, you're talking to that limbic brain and you're connecting with people. And people will either say, hey, I like what she had to say, I want to work with her, or they might say, I don't like what she had to say and I don't want to work with her. But we found out that either answer is good. Have you. Have you found that?
Yes. Yeah. And I've been a big believer. I've always said that with my coaching clients, you know that every client is not your fit, it's not your right clients, and you need to learn that right off the top. And also, I think a big lesson I had even in my first year of business was how to let a client go that wasn't the right client. And you know the whole story, even about my business. And you can see all the colors and everything I've done. And when I went to get some branding work done myself, someone challenged the fact that I used pink. And, you know, you're going to alienate people. And I said, well, those aren't my People. So, you know, if they can't embrace pink, whether they're male or female, then I'm not going to be their coach. The other thing that you mentioned too, is going into a room and saying, you're a business coach. You know, every third person is probably a business coach. And so. But going in with this differentiator that you have of your why, your how and your what really does get people to go, aha. And they see specifically where you can slot in. And perfect example. Even today I was at a luncheon and the. Those individuals knew right away, oh, this is what you could help me with.
Yeah. Because you're telling them what your strengths are. Right. So this is what you do. You're. You're. You're here to contribute to their success. And how you're going to do that is by helping them make sense of whatever you like. Big problems. Not. People don't understand that if you have make sense as your. How you like problems, you like messes, and you like coming in and cleaning them up, and you have energy for that. Right. It's unlimited energy to solve problems. You liked puzzles as a kid. I just worked with a coach recently that just signed on. It was literally on her why was make sense. And on her profile it said, I solve puzzles fast. Have people always told you that?
Yeah. And it's so interesting, I think too, once you take this. So I still love puzzles and it's like I compete against myself to do them and even to solve any problems. Right. That a client comes to me and, you know, we laugh about. Once you go through it, you start picking up on the signals of others. And my little one is the same way. She put a puzzle in front of her, she will take something apart, put it back together. And so I think she's a little bit of her mom and her when it comes to this idea. And it's funny. That's the other part of it is that it also made more sense to me about why I'm attracted in a room when I hear somebody say I'm stuck or I can't figure something out. Oh, I've always been like, ding, ding, ding. Who just said that? Let me come over and help you out. And I've always been attracted to the problem and bringing a solution. And even early on in my career, I learned even before someone mentored me and told me you should do that, that you know, when you identify a problem, always have a solution. So now seeing that, making sense of something and then offering a better way, that's exactly the way I've always naturally been, which is what we tell people about understanding your why is that people have question it. And when you are really struggling, when you can pinpoint and identify it, it's because it's not part of your DNA. It's who you are. It's how you operate. And so put it all together, all of a sudden, the clarity that you have as an individual and to go out there, whether you're applying for a job or starting a business. I have talked to a lot of different people since we came out with the new tool last month, and I think I've put about five people through the os and they were just like, oh, my gosh. Wow.
Yeah, we are so proud of that. It took us a long time to come up with that and a lot of work and a lot of testing. And you were probably one of the people we tested it on. And just to get that. That verification that it's working with people, when we give people that clarity, it is so fulfilling. And, you know, I want to give a shout out. It was Michelle McGlade. So she's one of our newer coaches. She just went through certification, but I literally got on the phone with her and I excuse me. I saw her and I saw. I said, your why is make sense. And your profile says, I solve puzzles fast. How does that resonate? And it was almost instantaneous. She's like, oh, my gosh, that is me to a T. That is the person that I am. It's interesting you brought that up too, because as a contributor with a how of makes sense. Your makes sense probably shows up a little stronger than your contribute. And it's something I talk about with coaches all the time, is you can't really guess a person's why by their behavior, because sometimes their how is really strong or their what is really strong, and that's what people see. For example, I'm a contribute challenge, but if you just see me on the street, I'm the guy that wears the red pants to play golf, or I'm always asking. I'm always trying to have fun and do so challenge. You might think my why is challenge because that's what I. It's how I do everything. It's how I contribute, but it's also how I make sense of things. So that comes out first. Have you had that experience with any of your clients so far?
Yeah, I definitely would say that. I think for me, the contribute part is because it's that underlying passion. Right. It's the fire within me that gets me there. And I think it's almost like a magnet. It's what brings people to me. But like you said, the conversation always starts with I hear a problem or even I go into a client and I'm immediately tackling. And the same thing in the past in all of my positions. And so the contribute part, what I think it did for me, is I even myself, prior to taking the why discovery, I kept saying, what is my own why? You know, here I am the why coach, and I'm helping other people. Right. It's a typical thing that, you know, the doctor can't diagnose themselves, and the coach couldn't diagnose to sell her own why. And I kept thinking, good gosh, and now it makes sense, ironically, as to what it was. Because at the end of the day, I think that's just that first step that attracts me to a client. For example, the last two that I've worked with both wanted to start nonprofits, right? Which is that part of contributing to a greater good. So the end game of what they're trying to do feeds into that part of my soul. And then the other part, where I really shine is my how and my what. But that what initially lighted my fire and gets me really energized. And I think what keeps me going with a client like the two I have right now is the fact that they are just going to make huge impact at the end.
Right. I love that you brought that up. So, you know, talk to me about being the Y coach and joining the Y Society. We had a couple of conversations. But what drew you to the Y Institute?
Oh, well, I started doing this. So I initially just started out as a coach to help women start businesses. And what I found in a lot of those conversations is where they were getting stuck and having trouble launching was that they had not really identified their why. So I, typical coach, went out and tried to create my own process in order to help them, but it was taking. And I. And I love, actually when you go through it and you hear Gary's story, right? It took me two and a half hours, right. Working with a client and some clients, it might take multiple sessions, right? Until we felt confident that we had met the why. So I was already. I had told a couple people, I thought, you know, gosh, it'd be great if there was an assessment and maybe I need to create one, you know? And so it was actually a client that you guys popped up in her feed, and she said, this may be what you're looking for. And because I said, again, the better way. Right. You know, I said, there's got to be a better way to do this because this is just frustrating me that it's taking me so long to help my clients. And it didn't make sense why it took so long. So, yeah, I immediately reached out to you and, you know, still took a little time, you know, trying to get the timing right for my business and my life and. But oh, my gosh, like, once I took the tool, it was really hard to kind of go back after that because it was exactly what I was looking for. And I knew for me, the why is just the first thing step in building a business and or solving the problem that you may be having in your business. So I know you have to get that done before then I really jump into the big work that I want to do, which is helping you make sense of your problems.
I love that you said that because that's one of the things, you know, that I try to tell people is this. You are not going to build a business on the Y discovery or the YOS discovery. We are a tool for successful coaches. We're already doing. What you already do is helping people solve problems and helping them brand themselves and start businesses and get unstuck. You're already good at that. The only thing that we've added is we've simplified that why process for you so that now you don't have to spend multiple sessions trying to figure out and then hoping that you got it right.
Right. Yeah. Yeah. And that was exactly it. Because there would be a couple times that we would get down the road of building out the product or the service for the clients or even the website and the branding, and it just wasn't feeling right. And these last two clients that I did, and I put them through the just the Y discovery, they've since taken the os, but at the time, because it was October, you know, I put them through that and it was amazing how quickly, even for me, we were able to just pinpoint, you know, oh, these are your colors and this is what you like, because that helps me understand them better and it helped them understand themselves. And so we. We got one client launched super quickly. She just launched on giving Tuesday. And it was amazing how quickly we got her there because I had that foundation.
Yeah, I love that. So tell me this. You've been doing Y and yos now for a couple of months. What's the biggest breakthrough you've seen for yourself personally or for a client?
Yeah, I will say the biggest Breakthrough is the fact of how well they work together and how really. And you said this when you first told me about the tool, about how. Again, the why is just that first step. And I was already coaching people. My whole program was your why, your how, your what and your who. Like, that's what we identified. And I actually, I told you I had a client that she went through the discovery first and she questioned it. She absolutely questioned it because it was right way. And she was like, it took it to the fact of, no, I don't always, you know, think everything has to be the right way. Well, when I then sent her the. The operating, the OS part and we put all three together, she was like, oh, my gosh, I get it now. And then, ironically, when we went back and looked at all of her marketing and her emails, we noticed how many times she learned used the word right way. And. But it's all three of them together. And it's the power of what that does, from the statement in your branding to just the confidence that it gives you because you fully understand more about why you do what you do, which has been a big part of my program, as you know, to get you to the why not is understanding not only why, but why you do it that way and why you're driven that way so that then you can say, well, why not have the business and life of my dreams.
I love that you brought that up because we started a weekly show and I called it why not Wednesday. And I was inspired by you. We love. We have so many great coaches joining our ranks and we want to tell their story. And I was finding that doing the Y2Y, which we are doing right now, is only once a month. But we wanted to tell more stories. And when we were thinking about what to call it, I thought, why not, why not Wednesday? So let's just steal a little bit from that. What's been your biggest why not moment?
Oh, my goodness. Like most people, I've had a few. And I think for me, my biggest why not moment was three years ago. Not necessarily I can say when I started my business, but it was when after a few months. And I question it because I think a lot of entrepreneurs do, especially that first year. You're like, oh, my gosh, did I make a mistake? Should I just go back and get a job? And I looked myself in the mirror and I said, why not? Why not keep going and do this is what you're passionate about. And literally, Steph, why not? What is stopping you from doing this? And I Think the other part I will mention is that I'm a little bit lucky because I have a little one around what a little one say all the time, why, why, why, why, why? And the reason, the question of the why from a young person's perspective, really, when you turn it around, you think about, they're asking a lot of times, you know, well, why not? You know, so now I literally live that. And it's gotten to be such a fun thing, not only with my clients, but even here in my community in St. Augustine. I will see people and they'll text me and they said, hey, Steph, we went and did this today because why not? And it's really caught on. And that just as a contribute, right? That just warms my heart. But I do, I get up sometimes in the morning and, you know, I just look and I'd be like, why not? Why not go out and make it a good day? Why not take that challenge? So it's really a mantra.
I love it. And so thank you for sharing that. We love our why not Wednesday. And it was such an inspiration to say, you know what, we talk about why and you talk about why not. That's kind of your mantra. Why not do things. And you're helping a very specific. So who is your ideal client, Steph?
Yes, I work specifically with women. Women that have always wanted to start a business, number one. And again, that's where it comes back into the why not. So they've been sitting in this idea. They have, you know, and that idea, well, why not start your business? So, you know, typically, a woman such as myself that might have been doing, you know, executive working with a corporate and have just always thought, you know, I could, you know, wonder what this would look like if I turn it into a business. And then the other side of that is the woman that is stuck in her business. So I have two really avatars. And that is where again, the ynat comes in. Because oftentimes what they have found is they went down a path for a particular reason because they didn't know their why. And they get stuck because they don't know their why. And that's where I turn things around. The other part about the why not is again, we ask all the time as individuals, same. No matter where you're young or our age, we go, why? Why did this happen to me? Why is this going on? And when you turn the conversation around your head, it gives you the confidence and then you are better to go over and talk to the individual that you're Trying to sell whatever it is you do to and get them to the well, why not work with you. And so it's a whole game changer in your mindset when you stop just asking why? And you start saying, why not? So you'll see everything I do is getting people from the why to then saying, why not? And it's just. It's a game changer. And I want to challenge everybody who listens to this to write it on a sticky note. I keep one here by my desk. And it's great because you look at it and you go. You'll be sitting here thinking about something. You go, why not? Okay, why not?
Why not, Right?
And it takes a lot of the fear away.
I love that you said that, because one of the things that we talked about is, you know, you and I had had a couple of conversations, and you were extremely busy. You had a big program coming up, and you said, hey, Dan, give me a call in about a month. And so I did. And we were approaching a milestone, our 100th Y coach. And I said, you know what?
What?
I'm going to call Steph McPhee. And I said, steph, here it is. You could be our 100th why coach, but you got to tell me, yes today. And you said, why not? Why not? It was so amazing because the conversations had already been had. You knew everything you needed to know. It was just a matter of timing. And so I called you up and you said, why not? Let's get this done. And would you say. What would you say to someone. And this is a good question. What would you say to someone who's thinking about it? They've had a conversation with me or somebody else on our team. They're thinking, well, I don't. I'm not quite sure. What would you say to someone that's on the fence about getting the certification and learning how to do this for their clients?
Well, I think, again, it's changing that conversation, right? Because so often what we do is the pros and cons list and why, Right? Why? Answer yourself the question of the why not? So as you're looking at the program, why not do this? And when you answer the question that way, you find there really is not a reason not to do this program and to be a part of this and to be certified and to go out there because, number one of the mission, but number two, the tool and what it'll do for you. And that is, you know, what I did. And I think you knew. I mean, I pretty much wanted to do it from the beginning. But like you said, I was in the middle of a huge launch for a client in September and we had to get through it. But. But at the end of the day, that's what I would tell somebody is look at your business and say, why not? Because as you mentioned in my intro, the why can get in your way. You will go down a rabbit hole if you just keep saying why, why, why, why, why? But when you say why not? You go, why would I not do this? And it totally changes your whole thinking about it. And if you make that list, it probably won't. Might not even have anything on it. Right.
Well, I love, I love that, that concept. So. So one of the things that we always talk about is how we connect with people. So you and I share the why of contribute. And your how of makes sense is my what. And what I have found is that I make extremely good connections with people with whom I share at least one of my top three.
Yep.
If I share two of them like you and I do, we connect extremely well. And if I share all three, forget it. It's rare. But if we share all three, we're like long lost siblings. We were finishing each other's sentences. Did you notice that connection when we met?
Oh my gosh, it was instantaneous. I mean, as soon as you and I started talking and I know you were super excited for me to take it because you knew right away, I could tell from your face you knew what I was going to be. And yes, we have eased into this friendship so simply, like, I feel like I've known you for years and, and I do agree with that. And you were talking about this on the why not the other day, why not Wednesday? About this concept of how sometimes that's often what we attract. Right. And I went back to a lot of my current clients and it was interesting. None of them actually had contribute in there, but a lot of them had make sense and at one point or the other in there. And I had a lot of challenge people. But I will be curious now going forward now that I've done this, you know, and going back and looking at where that is. But to your point, I even at the luncheon today, I was at, I'm sitting there and I'm talking to people, you know, you start thinking, I bet this is their wife.
One lady, we had so much in common. And I was like, everything she said, you know, oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, she's going to be a good tribute.
What about the clients you work with? I heard you mention that you start attracting people. One of our coaches says your vibe attracts your tribe. If you look in my dashboard, so we have at the Y Institute, our coaches have a dashboard dashboard and they get to see what percentage of their clients have each why. I have like 40% of the people I work with have the why of contribute because I think I attract that right. So if we, you know, Simon talks about it. If you tell people what you believe, you're going to attract people who believe what you believe. I believe in contributing to the success of others. I believe in doing it differently and I believe in making sense of things. So those three types of whys happen to occupy the top three spots on my dashboard. Have you noticed that about the clients that you're attracting now?
Well, it's interesting you said that because I think going forward, as we're getting out the new system and I'm talking to people, I probably will see a little bit difference. I've gone back to all my previous clients and had them all go through it because just as an exercise and I actually have been fascinated because I have almost everything. The combinations have been everywhere. But I will also say I think that's, you know, probably because these, you know, the times we've been in and a lot of people I think now I want to go see who recommended me. All my. Everybody that comes to me is a referral. That's how I get on most of my clients as referrals. And I think I said, oh, I'd love to go back and let them to take it because I bet they're the contributes. But I will say the underlying message of every woman that I work, work with is actually at the end of the day, they are trying to change something and impact lives. So I've got one another one right now that had the wife challenge and she questioned it like challenge. And I said, you're creating a program that is going to shake up your industry. And she had better way in there. You know, same as me. I think that's her. Her what is better way. So we match. What I think it is is we match somewhere on our spectrum of the three, you're going to match somewhere. A lot of mine have make sense and better way in there. Their whys tend to be different. But I have laughed at each one of them. The challenge the right way. It's all about changing lives. Every one of them is trying to impact somebody's life or change up the system to make it better. And so, yeah, I will say that while the whys haven't matched. I've had a lot of the make sense and the better ways that have aligned, which like you said, is more what I probably lead with than anything else.
Well, in a lot of people, everybody wants to be contribute. If we let people choose, they want to choose contribute, they want to be somebody that wants to make a difference. What I work with, when I work with people for the first time, I like to let them know that regardless of what your why is, you are contributing. So Gary's why is better way, but he finds better ways and then he shares them. That is how he contributes to the world. People who like to challenge the status quo and think differently, that is their contribution because not everybody has the courage to think differently and do something that shakes up an entire industry. So without those people, my daughter, my little young 9 year old daughter who is her why is challenged, she's actually taken the assessment, she says, dad, somebody had to be the first person to drink milk out of a cow. I bet their why was challenge. You know, when you look at all the great innovations and inventions, somebody had to challenge the status quo and think differently and say, you know what, we haven't tried that, why don't we try it? And, and so we reminding people, whatever your why is mastery, right way, we need those right way people to create structure in our lives because without them we'll just go off the rails. Right? We'll have ideas all the time and never implement anything. What have you found? Are the whys that you connect with really well and the ones with whom you have to work at? Have you, have you found that yet?
Well, it's interesting, like I said, I think the predominant three that I've had show up is challenge and right way. Most of my clients are that I do have a mastery in there and I haven't been able to talk to her yet, get scheduled. I can't wait to talk to her. And I have to admit I wasn't surprised. And that one, for anyone who doesn't know, is a very rare one. Right? It's one of the rare ones.
It's only about 4% of the population.
Yeah, right. So, but to your, to your point, like the challenge in the right way, with the kind of thing that I'm doing to help people, you know, live a life and go after their business, it makes perfect sense. And so I think, you know, attracting my tribe, I haven't had anybody that I haven't gelled with. But I also will say that's because I am now Three years in, almost four years into my business. I'm very selective with my clients because I had a coach that told me to do that, you know, and to go to coffee with your clients and make sure that you are vibing. And I have had clients that say, but I really want you. And I'm like, no. You know, I just know myself. So I think that's probably why the ones that are there are my people that we've had. I've been my clients for a year or something and I don't really have any that I'm not dealing with because I don't bring them on. I usually know right away, you know.
If they're going to be.
Yeah. Especially if they're like, really? As you can tell, guys, I'm very energetic, lots of colors. And when I meet somebody and they're very mellow, I'm like, wow, this is just not going to work. I need you to be energized every time I talk to you and be like, yes, Steph, let's do it. And not just like, yeah, yeah, let's do it. You know, there's, there's another person out there that reads into that and I will probably overwhelm them.
Absolutely. And you know, and we need the balance right. When we work with teams. For example, you know, for myself, I'm contribute challenge makes sense. I don't do a lot of things by the book. I don't take great notes and I'm not the person you want creating a schedule or a process because that's not my strength. So the people that I need around me need to be right way or, or clarify to ask those questions that I won't ask because I'll just jump into an idea and let's go. And so I need somebody to make sure that they're putting stuff on my calendar because if not, it doesn't get put on the calendar. If there's a follow up to be done, that is not my strength. Someone else needs to make sure they're doing that. And so you build your team around yourself with those people that complement you. They're sometimes opposite of what you do. But certainly in terms of the people you work with, you know, I can't. I'll give you this example. I had someone say, look, I want to work with you, but you can't change what I'm doing.
My how is to challenge? I'm like, like, so do you want help? Because what I want to do is come in and just blow everything up and see what comes down right with the how of challenge. And so that's not going to be a good fit. Have you, have you had that kind of conversation where you're like, okay, this isn't going to work. Let me refer you to someone else that probably is a better fit?
Yeah, well, exactly. I think for me, one of the biggest aha's again that came out of. Now I know why I do that. The way I do is like for me, with clients, I like to train people. I'm all about empowering you to run your business. And I'm not going to be the person that you're going to hire. I might show, I happily show you how to edit your website, how to do social media, but I'm not going to take it on. And I had a client and after I showed her how to do it, she says, why can't I just pay you to do it for me? And I was like, no, because that's not what I do, you know. And I mean, I may get in like you, you know, I want to make sense. I'm going to clarify things, I'm going to show you a good way to do it and then I'm gone. I'm on to the next person and I'm not going to be there for the long haul. And it's been interesting because I've had a couple of clients that will be like, but, but why I want you, I want to. Why can't you just do it for me? And I said, well, I'll go recommend you this person, you know, and, but that, that's not what I do. And I did it once two years ago for a client. I said, yes, I'll do this. And we were both miserable. And so, you know, it's like, no, no. And that's another gift I think that you get is that a lot of times even you'll find yourself, especially as a solopreneur. I'm a solopreneur. And you know, you're like, well, gosh, why can't I just do this? I need to get over it. Why do I struggle? And I have to admit, not that it, you know, knowing this and looking at all the things out of the Y os I was like, golly gosh, that makes so much more sense now, you know? And you know why I do things, things and this. And then even going back to my clients and explaining them, like I said what I do even they were like, wow, yep, that's exactly. And now I'll just add the other thing that I have been interested in because I do, I live in St. Augustine and we're pretty tight knit little community over here. And so a lot of my clients, we are involved in organizations together. So it's been fascinating for me because we're all friendly and to understand and to see that network and dynamic and then now. Okay, well that explains why she takes those roles at every organization we volunteer in and that's why this, this person does this and that's why this person doesn't do anything, you know, other than go to come to the luncheons because they know that that's not going to be their, their thing. So I think it has been interesting, you know, all around just the learnings and like you said, I've only been in, you know, certified for a couple months and it just gets me even more energized to get out there and to have everybody do the entire program and both sessions because like I said it's, it's already seen an impact and where we're headed with the two clients that I'm in project with right now to launch by the end of the year and oh my gosh, it just, we both were like, wow. And we went back and we made some tweaks to things and one of them was one that I had done. Like I think we took three sessions to figure out her why and we still weren't sure we were there. She questioned it and so did I and now we know because her why was challenge.
So I love, I love that sombody wants to get a hold of Steph McPhee. Where do they go? I know most of your work comes from referrals, but I know you have a social media presence. You're great on video. Tell us, where does someone go if they want to work with you?

My website is stephmcphee.com I'm Steph McPhee on Everything But Instagram, which is the Y coach. But I am very lucky. I check. I don't know if you guys all do this, but I google myself a lot. And if you just put in Steph McPhee y coach, I will come right up to the top and, and you can't miss me because everything is pink.
Love, love, love that. What is one question we haven't asked you, Steph, that you want to make sure we answer for your, for your, your audience. Because we're going to invite Your people to listen to this. So who do we want to make sure? Here's your message. What's the question you haven't asked?
Oh, well, I don't know about a question that you haven't asked, but I am going to go back to this idea of why not? And I challenge everybody out there, even though that's not my why. But I do want to put a challenge out to you especially. Here we are with everything going on in the world, if you are in a situation, you are questioning just the space you are in to go and make a list of the things that you've always dreamed of. And I start this. I have three things and I will share this right here with our audience that I coach clients on. The first thing I always say is know. What do you want to be known for? Write down a list of words. What are the things that you want to be known for? The second thing is what are your values? Right. And mine are faith, family and fun. Everybody laughs at me, but once you get to know me, you're like, yep, that, that's so stuff. So what do you want to be known for? What are your values and what words would you want to hear people use when they introduce you? The reason I do that is that that is really a good way to find out if you are headed in the right direction in your life and in your career. Once you do that, then start asking why not? And then reach out to one of us, a Y coach and have your why os done. And really, don't be afraid. There's no better time than right now with the great resignation and a lot of things going on to go out there and explore your dreams. And you can do it while you're still doing your current job. And that's the best way to do it. But make yourself say why not? No matter what your age. I'm mentoring a young woman right now who's 29 and just went after her dream career and was doing something she wasn't happy about. And I just challenged her why not? And you know, here at 46, I'm challenging a 29 year old to go out and live her why not Life. Life. And so that's, that's what I want everybody to ask themselves is why not? And do those three things. Know what do you want to be known for? Know your values and then figure out how you want people to introduce you. And if you don't know, go listen. The next time you're at something, hear the words. If those aren't the words that you want to be introduced by, then it might be time to change some things.
That is great advice. So I'm gonna. I'm gonna remind our audience that they can discover their why by going to our website and typing in the code Y2Y and getting the Y discovery for 50% off. And I love what you said, Steph. If you haven't found your coach, you can go to our website and you can find a wise certified coach to work with you that's near you. If you don't mind working all the way from California to Florida, I'm sure you can. You could work with Steph from anywhere in the world. We have added coaches in Australia. We have added coaches in Germany. We have coaches in France. We have coaches all over the world. And so we are so excited to add the Y discovery to the world and the yos discovery. Thank you, Steph, for being a great guest today, and we look forward to hearing more about what you do and seeing you at our conference in April.
Oh, yes. I can't wait. And thank you, Dan, for continuing to just be a great friend and advocate and everybody go out there and find your why. Because why not?
