My Answer to Breast Cancer

A short personal-video talk by Dr. Jenn Simmons (Real Health MD) describing her experience with the DNA360 genetic test. She explains the test’s purpose (to personalize diet, fasting, micronutrient needs, sleep, immunity, hormones, cardiovascular risk, and executive function) and gives examples from her own report: confirmation that a 16:8 fasting routine suits her, the report’s recommendation to finish eating by ~4:00 pm for better circadian/metabolic alignment, and a genetic inability to convert beta-carotene to vitamin A (so she needs vitamin A supplementation despite a carotenoid-rich vegan diet). She invites viewers to contact her practice to order the test and says she will review one report area per week for six weeks.

Hi there, it's Dr. Jen Simmons from Real Health MD. This is my answer to breast cancer. I'm so excited to be here tonight because I want to share with you the information that I received this week. So if you have not heard me talk about the DNA360 test, this is an extremely powerful test that allows you to nurture your nature. So it's a DNA analysis of your genes and how they work to encode for the different proteins and the different enzymes and things that support your system and what can and can't help you to generate health. And so there are so many unanswered questions like what is the right kind of diet for me? And do I metabolize fats? Well, do I metabolize carbohydrates? Well, should I be on keto? Should I not be on keto? How much protein do I need? Do I need a lot of protein? Do I need a little protein? And you know, which nutrient do I metabolize best? What are my micronutrient needs? Do I have good vitamin D sensitivity or do I need to get more vitamin D? Do I need to supplement with vitamin D? How about vitamins A? How about vitamin C? So there are so many questions that it's impossible to answer using standard testing. Even using functional testing, it's impossible to get these kinds of answers. And that's just in the area of food and nutrition. So I received my DNA360 report last night and I have just been combing over it today. And there are so many pearls of wisdom, so so many things that even someone like me who is so deeply entrenched in the functional medicine world, I am every single day trying to figure out what the right thing is for each individual. And I was trying to figure out what the right thing is for me because we are all bio individual. There's no one right plan for everyone. But I was having to do so much trial and error and I didn't even guess right for me. And when I received this test and the results of this test, it was so elucidating in that I, I strongly suspected some of these things were true, but just had no way to prove them before. So I wanted to share my screen, but I'm just not sure. I hope that you guys are able to see this. But what's so interesting is that I talk so much about fasting, intermittent fasting, what the right schedule is for people. And I firmly believe that there is a fasting schedule for everyone and that, and that there is some kind of fasting that's good for everyone. And you know, every single religion has fasting built into it. And it's because our bodies are biologically designed to take rests from food. And some of them are seasonal rests and some of them are just, if you think about it from like the caveman perspective, there were seasonal rests from food because food was just not available at certain times of the year. But there was also daily rest from food because as a human you're not going to be out feeding at night because it's not safe to be outside of the cave at night. So we're designed to take daily rest from food. And then on top of that, were designed to take seasonal rest from food, whereas our metabolism changes in the summer and in the winter. And so here is my fasting schedule where I always knew that I wasn't hungry for really much more than one meal a day, like maybe one and a half meals a day. So I automatically gravitated to that, not even knowing that that's what my genetics dictated. That's just what I gravitated to. And so amazingly enough, now this is a little different than what I was doing because I was having my, my main meal later in the day, not between 2 and 4pm but it's so validating to know that what I was doing is the right thing for me. And so if you just look at, at these, at these numbers. So I was already doing a 16, 8 schedule, meaning that I was doing a 16 hour fast with an 8 hour feeding window. And that's exactly what this says. The thing that's different from what I'm doing, that this has changed how I approach my eating schedule, is that according to this, I should have my last meal before 4pm So I am very, very tied to early circadian rhythm, where that is my most productive time. That's the time when my metabolism is the best. And our metabolism slows as the day goes on, as we get ready to sleep. So if I'm eating a meal later on at night, then I'm not going to sleep as well because I'm not going to be finished metabolizing it. So it's really fascinating how your fasting schedule can affect everything, because if you don't get enough sleep, then that leads to a whole other cascade of inflammatory changes in your body. And this is just one small part of what this test is powered to tell you. So for those of you that want to stop guessing, that want to know how to nurture your nature, how to do the things from a diet and Lifestyle perspective, perspective that will drive your health in the best possible way. How to live in accordance with your genetic code. Then I strongly urge you to go ahead and take this test. You can just email me at infoealhealthmd.com that's info inforialrealhealth h E-I-L t h m d.com and send us an email saying I want to know and we can get you all set up for your testing. This is a test that you need to do once in your lifetime and it will give you the roadmap to your best health. There's six different reports. I can flash some of my reports up here, but there's one on sleep. There's one on executive function that covers mood, behavior and personality. There's one on your cardiovascular profile. And remember, this is talking about how to prevent disease and promote your best health. There's one on immunity, which is inflammation and your immune system. One on your hormone profile and then the one that I just showed you, which is your diet and nutrition profile. So each week I'm going to be highlighting a different part of the test. Tonight we just looked at a little bit of my diet and nutrition profile. I'll just end by telling you that I, as a vegan I eat tons of orange vegetables. So I was getting enough beta carotene and I knew that I was getting enough beta carotene and yet my vitamin A levels were low. And this report told me why. Because I'm not able to convert beta carotene into vitamin A. And we need vitamin A for an. It's one of our fat soluble vitamins. It's very important in your immune system and your hormonal system. And so without proper levels of vitamin A, there are a number of clinical ramifications. And so that's just one tiny part of what this test was able to tell me, that no matter how well I ate, I still need to supplement with vitamin A. So there's so much valuable information here. I'm going to finish pouring through it and bring you a different excerpt every week for the next six weeks. But if you want to know your results, if you want to know how to nurture your nature, if you want to stop guessing, stop experimenting and just know how to proceed in the way that promotes your health, send me an email to infoealhealthmd.com and say, I want to know. This is Dr. Jen Simmons from Real Health MD. Bye for now.
