Here's a spoiler alert. We all need iodine and we're not getting nearly enough of it. I recorded a podcast not too long ago on my podcast, the keeping Abreast with Dr. Jen podcast, where I had a guest who I did not agree with. But it's very bad form to disagree with your guest. But we were talking about thyroid disease, iodine and breast cancer. And I thought it was important, even though I didn't agree with him, to share his opinion with the world, which I did. And it did exactly what I thought it was going to do. Brought up a lot of questions.
So the question that really came out of that interview that I did is what about iodine? Because in that interview there was ongoing theme that iodine wasn't important. And so I really dove down into the data, read a bunch of books and then I went to the source. So I interviewed Dr. David Brownstein and you will hear that interview shortly. But basically this is what I learned from him. We are all exposed to iodine deficiency because our soil has become so deplete, because our diets have changed and we no longer have great sources of iodine. And iodine deficiency is very serious because nearly every cell in your body uses iodine. And iodine is the same center of our thyroid hormone and thyroid hormone is the master of our metabolism. So iodine is a really important molecule. We all need it, we probably all need to supplement with it, unless you are on an iodine rich diet, which most of us are not. But you can learn more and hear all about the interview on my podcast, keeping abreast with Dr. Jen. Or just go and get some of Dr. David Brownstein's resources because he is amazing, he is brilliant and he basically did dictates how I feel about iodine these days.
