Worried about Breast Cancer?

Recorded conversation between Dr. Jenn (Jenn Simmons) and health coach Stacy Perelman describing the "My Answer to Breast Cancer" 12-week program. The program teaches an anti‑inflammatory lifestyle through six pillars of health (first three weeks focus on nourishment), offered as a weekly Zoom group (Monday evenings) with a Facebook community, health coaches (Stacy and Melinda), and a resource guide. It is traditionally women-only for intimacy; a non‑gendered course called the Real Health Reset is being released separately. The course is also available as a self‑paced, one‑module‑per‑week option.

Hi, everyone. It's Dr. Jen Simmons from Rural Health MD. I'm super excited to have Stacy Perelman, one of my health coaches and someone who helps me run my, my answer to breast cancer course here with me tonight. Thank you so much, Stacy, for coming.
Thank you. Hi, Jen.
Hi. Hi. So we're getting ready to start. I can't believe it. But our fourth group, right. It's so crazy where the time has gone and we have a whole collection of people who have been through the group, who found the experience so incredibly invaluable. And so on the eve of starting our next group, I just wanted to talk, get your perspective, talk to people about what, who this group is for and what we do there and what happens there and who really gets benefit from it. So, you know, I'll start off by saying that when I was thinking about this group, I really wanted to reach everyone who was concerned about breast cancer. Right. So that was my target audience. And so I was thinking about people at kind of every spectrum of it because to me, it's all about prevention. Right. And you can talk about prevention at every stage along the way because the things that we talk about in group and the things that we do in group are focused on preventing the development of breast cancer, but then preventing the progression, preventing the recurrence. And we even have a significant amount of people in our group who have stage four disease, who we're talking about actually reversing disease in them and making all of these lifestyle changes that create a whole different environment. So what are your thoughts and feelings having been through the group three times now?
Yeah. Here's what I love about what you've created. I've been in the health space a really long time. Here's what's unique about this group. While you will get support, of course, and bonding and community, this is not a support group necessarily every week to talk about your diagnosis and your prognosis. What we are here to do is literally give you pillars of health. That that night when you sign off the group, you can start doing to improve your life and start living this anti inflammatory lifestyle.
So.
So you're leaving with tangible tips. And I don't mean just start eating better. We are giving like real micro details which I love. Literally almost homework if you wanted to changes you can start making in your life. As soon as when you sign off group, you have a team of women and a team of health coaches and Dr. Simmons that are going to support you through this. We have a Facebook group for sharing messages and recipes and wins and questions. So it just encompasses so many factors. We cover all about Six Pillars of Health. We discussed with you over 12 weeks. You can literally create such major lifestyle changes that we know are going to enable your path to better health. Yeah.
And I think that something that you said that these are actionable things, you know, the second that you finish that weekly call, you know what you have to do, you know what your task is. And it's very actionable for people in that these are attainable things. Right. Like we're not asking anyone to move mountains. We are giving people real enactable tools that they can use right there and then. But it's very intentional that we have a 12 week program. Right. Because you can't hand someone a laundry basket of things and say here, use all of these tomorrow.
Right.
Because you can't do that. But each week we're actually focusing on a different aspect, a different pillar. Sometimes when the issues are big, we're spending several weeks there.
Right.
I mean I think the first three weeks is really talking about nourishment. And that's because we get, you know, our nourishment is so vast. It's not just the food that we eat. We get nourished in so many ways. You and I both came through iin the Institute for Intake Nutrition and Joshua Rosenthal teaches this concept of primary food versus secondary food. And so many people think that the primary food is the stuff that they're putting in their mouths that's nourishing them. And actually primary food is all those other things that nourish us and they're equally as important, sometimes more important. And that concept comes up a lot in this course.
Yeah, you're like getting at the tip of our iceberg here. And this should be like luring you in because if this is interesting and fascinating and you're ready to make some of these changes, if you're ready to kind of empower yourself, you start taking charge of the path that you are on right now with. We are going to help you make changes immediately and explain them and so you really understand them. So you're not just kind of given tips and lists of things you have to start doing. We're going to give you the why also, which I love for myself when I'm starting a journey, when I'm creating something, I need to know the why so that it will stick. We're going to explain why these changes need to be made to ensure your living an anti inflammatory lifestyle. And I just love we get very specific with you. But I Promise you, these are all changes you're able to make. We make it easy so that you're not struggling at home alone. You're going to be really excited to get some of these tools in your toolbox and start making these changes. You're going to want to go into your friends homes and your daughter and your, you know, whoever the women in your life are, you're going to be so excited to share all the information with them as well. They can join with you.
Yeah. And I think that that's a really important point because as we get healthier, the people around us get healthier as well.
Right.
Because you want to give that gift of health to the people around you so it ends up being, like, quite contagious and quite infectious in a super good way.
Absolutely. It's really exciting for us, too, because from week one when we start, and I think we do a really good job of not overwhelming, but getting you really excited so that you can make these changes week to week. And maybe sometimes it takes a couple of more weeks, but we're all there to support you along your entire journey.
Yeah. So let's talk about who this course is not for. Right. Because it's not for everyone. So if you are someone who doesn't think that you can make an impact, that doesn't think that anything that you do matters in terms of the course of things, and if you're someone who is not willing to make changes like I do this and I'm not willing to change it, I'm eating well enough, I'm, you know, doing things well enough, then it's probably not the place for you.
We're optimistic. Yeah. And we're positive. Really?
A positive growth journey. Right?
That's right.
That's willing to travel a hundred percent.
We're here to support you. We're here to give you the tools. But you have to, in your heart and in your head, be ready to take that journey with us. We don't come from a space of negativity or bossiness or complaining. We're here on this road of motivation and excitement and joy, you know, in. In everything that we do. So come be joyful with us and take charge of your health.
Yeah. That's something we talk about all the time, is creating the chemistry of joy.
Right.
Because when you have that, your health flourishes. So I do see that we have a question here from Gary Eisenson. Gary wants to know, why is this a women only program? Gary, this program, which is called My Answer to Breast Cancer, has traditionally Been a women only program though what we are touting, what we are teaching, what we are kind of laying the foundation to is an anti inflammatory lifestyle. And if you will just be one week patient with us, we're going to be releasing the Real health reset the following week. And that is the anti inflammatory lifestyle for everyone that is not women specific. For the purposes this group, which is called My answer to Breast Cancer, we are keeping. Even though I understand that men do get breast cancer, for the purposes of this group and the intimacy of this group, we are keeping it to women. But Gary, I promise you there is a course for you coming next week.
And Jen, there is also as well. We would love for you to join our group and we think you get so much out of being in a group setting. But if that this moment in time you're not able to do the group, we do have course that you could take the journey alone. So Gary, if maybe there's a woman in your life that is dealing with breast cancer and you just want to know what we're speaking about in group, then maybe that, that individual courses is. Would be a good choice for you also.
So we are, we are offering this as a standalone course that you can just follow along. It is still weekly units. So it's, it's a self paced course in that you have that whole week to do the module. But I'm only releasing one module a week and that's very intentional because I do want people to, to have the opportunity to, no pun intended, but digest that information and apply it because you cannot do everything at once. And if I gave you everything at once, the likelihood that you would be able to effectively use that information is very, very low. So it is available as a self paced course. It will still be 12 weeks long, but you don't have to be with the group. Conversely, if you want the support of the group, the energy of the group, which it does have a lot of really wonderful sp. Special energy, then the group is available to you. So can you think of anything I missed?
I can. It's not too late. We're starting tomorrow. It's once a week on Monday evenings. We. It's all through Zoom. You know, it's all through. It's all virtual and we just can't wait. And it's not too late. So contact us if you want to be a part of this journey with us. We'd love to have you.
Yeah. And talk a little about. Because Melinda's there as well.
Yes, Melinda is there as well. Our other health coach if many of you have met her. So there's two health coaches, there's a whole educational piece. So like I said, you learn the why that we've broken this course into these 12 sections very deliberately. We go through the education behind it and then we give you some tools to use into the following week. There's time for questions, there's time for chat, there's time for shares, and we call them wins. Hearing about the goals and progress that you've made throughout the week. So it's just a wonderful community. It's a really nice way to end your Monday nights and get great energy going into the week as well.
It is, it is.
I agree with you.
I love that we end Monday nights on such a positive note and just setting that beautiful tone for the week. The other thing that I'm so excited to present people with and Stacy has gotten a chance to look at is the resource guide that comes at the end of the course is just abound with such amazing content that I'm just. That alone is just so exciting. And so it just impactual. It's just really, really awesome. So between our group and the Facebook group, the whole community, the resource guide, like, I know that it's an invaluable experience for anyone at any stage along that cancer journey. If you are at high risk, you've had biopsies, you're worried about developing breast cancer, you have family history, you have a BRCA mutation, you've recently been diagnosed, you're currently in treatment. We have plenty of people that are currently in treatment. You've completed treatment and you're wondering now what. Or you're living with metastatic disease. Like, all of these people are in our group and all of these people, because we've asked all of them, they feel like we are. We are telling them exactly what they needed. And so it really has. It really has the information that everyone in this bucket is looking for.
Yeah, we're just really proud of this.
We.
Our testimonials. I'm going to toot our own. I'm going to pat our backs. Like, our testimonials have been wonderful. We love. We have people that say, we loved it so much. Can we take the course again so that we continue absorbing this information and create these habits? So we're really proud of what we're offering you and we just think if this is what you've been waiting for, if this is the journey you've been looking for, if you're ready to make these changes and start learning about how to really take control of the living an anti inflammatory life, optimizing your health, creating these pillars of health for yourself. Then come start this journey with us tomorrow night.
Yep, hope to see you there. I put the link for you to sign up right in the chat. And Stacey, on behalf of myself and Stacy and Melinda, we hope to see you there. This is Dr. Jen Simmons from Rural Health MD. Bye for now.
