A coach draws out your own answers, not like a consultant who gives solutions or a mentor who shows their path. Coaching is forward-looking, and the people who seek it are already competent and growth-oriented.

Just finishing a conference I've been doing down here in Florida and just wanted to give you some points on what coaching is and what coaching is not. The first thing is coaching is always forward-looking. One thing I'm always struck with is that competent people seek coaching. Incompetent people don't have a tendency to seek coaching. It's competent people, people who want to change, they want insight, they want input, they want a sense of direction. Coaching is not consultancy. A consultant is an expert in a field. A coach is something totally different. Coaching is application. It's application of expert facts. Coaching is not mentoring. Mentoring is helping people walk in my steps. Coaching is helping people walk in their own steps. There's a radical difference between being a coach and a mentor. I think that's a great point. And being a mentor. The last thing is that coaching is someone who— probably the best way to put it— doesn't pour into you, but rather draws out of you what's inside of you. And that's one of the key differences in what is a coach and why it's important to get a coach. See, a coach will draw alongside you and pull out of you the dreams, the desires, and the answers that you need For your life and your circumstances. Just 3 thoughts, 3 thoughts on what being a coach is. I'm enjoying my time down here. I look forward to tomorrow. It's gonna be an exciting day. Bye. Thank you, Dr. King.
