Give One 2019

Dr. John A. King and a VA nurse discuss how his book helped a veteran with PTSD and substance abuse stay in treatment. King launches a 2019 campaign to give away 10,000 copies to veterans and trauma survivors, using a buy-one-give-one model. He's asking for donations, with $1,500 funding 50 books for a VA hospital.

Hi all, how you doing? We received a letter last week that was very, very touching to both of us, and it's had such a deep impact that it's really affected our plans for 2019. And we just want to share it with you and just scope out a little bit about what we've got planned to help people in the PTSD community.
This is from a VA nurse. As a nurse who works with veterans with substance abuse and often comorbid PTSD, I don't often share my experiences with those outside my scope of practice, but I had to drop you a line today. I've been working with one veteran who has been struggling with addiction and PTSD. He's been in and out of multiple programs and found it difficult to connect with members of his treatment team. I've been reading a copy of your book and watching your videos and mentioned to this veteran how impressed I was with your story and your message. What I love about your book is there's no cookie-cutter answer. There's no magic pill. There are guidelines to help reset the switches in your body, but you have to work at it every day. I gave him my copy of your book this morning, and he has already read the first 20 pages. He's connected more with your book than most therapists in the last year. I have a little more hope that he might not relapse and that he can make it until his bed date on Wednesday. just by holding on to your book. Thank you for all your work.
It was really moving to us because she's got 50 vets at a time in this particular VA hospital, and then there's another one just up the road. And we get emails every week from people talking about, you know, the impact of the book on their lives, and in both the veteran community and the non-veteran community. And we really want to do something about it. I was really challenged by someone saying, you know, the VA is not looking at and unable to bring a solution, yet your book is bringing solutions and helping people. Yeah, what can we do to get it out there? So what we've decided we're going to do for 2019 is we're setting a goal of giving away 10,000 copies of our book to veterans and trauma sufferers across the nation and around the world. So we're not quite sure how we're going to do that yet, but that's our goal and that's our aim. So, you know, even this time of year, we've had an increase in inquiries of people desperate to get hold of the book. And if you haven't yet had a chance to, you know, give one in our whole, you know, buy one, give one, or our give one campaign, please go online and gift the book to someone. If you've got someone in mind, we'll sign it and send it to them. If not, we've got a list of people and a growing list of people who could really benefit from the book. In fact, this lady, we'd love to send 50 books to her. And so—
So please do keep us in mind if you are planning to give for end-of-year giving. I know a lot of people do that for tax reasons and things like that. You will get a tax-deductible receipt for this program. So if you'd like to help us, You know, keep us in mind.
Yeah, like the VA where she is will cost us about $1,500 to do. So, which is just, it's not a lot of money to help a whole bunch of people. So if you can or you're willing to or you want to, then please drop us an email and we'll help sort that out for you. Thanks very much.
