Ned Changes the Date for the first competition

Ned calls John to move the first competition from July to March 22, 2014, cutting prep time to five months. The plan: drop 40 pounds from 220 to 180, overhaul diet with less carbs and more protein, and ramp up cardio. The competition is in Fargo, North Dakota.

Just got a call from Ned. He wants me to come up and chat about the first competition. We're slated for July, so we probably—he just probably wants to go over training, diet, all that sort of stuff. So looking forward to it. It'll be good to work out what the plan is.
John, how's it going, man? Good to see you.
Hey, how's it going, mate? You're good, yeah?
I need to come to Dr. Well, how you feeling? Feeling good?
Yeah, I am. I think the last couple of days have been really good. Okay. I feel more confident, um, you know. So yeah, I know we've got to set some dates and plans and all that sort of stuff. And you know, we talked about, I think when we first started, about July, which is good, you know.
So July, is that what you're thinking? Yeah. Well, we actually kind of got a break I got some news to you here. Well, I've been looking at some dates here.
Yeah.
And looks like we're looking at March. I know you're not going to like this news, but it's looking like March.
That's 5 months away.
That's 5 months away. That means you're going to have to get them to step up in your gear.
So what does that mean to diet and training and stuff?
Well, I think this is going to be game-changing now because I just found a show. It's March 22nd.
Yeah.
That means we need to get serious, man. It means that, uh, the diet is gonna completely change. So whatever we had you doing right now, that's, um, that's gonna change.
Okay. Wow.
So we're definitely gonna maybe even skip a phase in the whole process. Get you to phase 3 right away. Um, but, um, yeah, man, um, it's gonna be, um—
So when are we talking about a change starting?
As far as diet plan or?
Yeah, everything.
Workout plan, diet plan, the mindset. Mindset needs to change right now. Okay, so it's on. I know it's on, man. I know you're not too thrilled about the news, but—
Well, it's just the 9 months, from 9 months to 5 months is a big change, mate.
Well, you can do it, right?
Yeah, well, I have to. I don't have a chance. I don't have a choice.
You know, I already signed you up for it.
So where is it?
It's in Fargo, North Dakota. It's about 4 hours from Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Okay.
So you're gonna have to fly in again.
Yeah.
And then we're gonna have to drive there together.
Okay.
And do this thing. Because March 22nd, 2014 is your—
That's the first competition?
First competition for you. So you can put that in your books.
Yeah, I'm gonna have to, mate. So with diet and training, what's gonna change? And when? Is it gonna be like this Monday? This week, next week, or?
It's gonna be next week for sure.
Okay.
You know, we have 4 months. I'm probably gonna cut you some slack another 2, 3 weeks.
Okay.
And at 14 weeks, 12 weeks out, I mean, it's gonna be tough. I mean, we're gonna cut some calories out.
Yep.
We're gonna increase the cardio.
Yep.
We're gonna change your carbohydrates. To, you know, less carbohydrates to more protein.
Yeah.
So, you know, that, you know, things are gonna be changing as we go.
But what about the amount of weight? What weight would you want me down to? What about, do I have enough time to lose the weight?
I know. Because you're about 220 right now, right?
Yeah, yeah, 220, 224, something like that.
Yeah, I looked at you the other day. I looked at some pictures on you, of you, looked at you. You know, we're probably looking at a good 40 pounds down.
40 pounds?
Yeah, probably looking at a good 40 pounds, believe it or not.
You want to get me down to 180?
I want you shredded, man. I want you shredded.
180?
180.
I think 180, I was 16 years old the last time I was 190.
Well, that's, you know, it might be more. We don't know until the last week, but my, you know what, I've been coaching, man, for Many years and I have an eye for that. So yeah, man, you got some fat on you, man.
Oh yeah, hey, listen, I agree on that. 40 pounds, bud?
Yeah, yeah, do some, uh, drop some weight. So, um, but I think, uh, you can do it. I think you're gonna be able to get it done. If anybody can do it, it'll be you, my friend. So dropping 40 pounds, that means A lot of cardio, a lot of chicken, a lot of fish.
That's 3 pounds of weight.
You'll be all right. You'll be all right. You'll be okay. You'll be all right.
I'll be sucking it up. You'll be okay.
We'll get it done, man.
Okay, so it starts Monday then?
Starts Monday. Yep, starts Monday, my friend.
So I'm going for a beer and burger tonight then, mate?
Yeah, you're having your last burger tonight for 4 months. Yeah, we can do this, man.
One shot, bro. One shot. One shot.
That was a bit rough.
From 9 months to 5 months is a bunch. So, you know, 40 pounds is a lot of weight. It's 12 weeks, 3 pounds a week. It's just going to get it in there. Beer, burger, and fries tonight. The rest of my life's about to suck. Anyway, whatever, I signed on for it. It's my call. I think next time for my one shot, I'm gonna take up basket weaving, pottery, crocheting, small doily things, bloody bodybuilding. Stupid ideas.
Morning!
