In this YouTube video, Nikki, a long‑time CPTSD survivor, delivers a heartfelt review of Dr. John A. King’s book Deal With It: Living Well with PTSD. She describes the book as an inspirational companion that injects hope, encouragement, and empowerment into her daily struggle with complex trauma. Nikki highlights the author’s raw honesty, research‑backed lessons, and the comforting presence of Mel, who represents the supportive role of a partner in the healing journey. She notes how the book’s accessible, positive tone resonates during moments of trigger‑induced fear and helps her feel part of a larger “tribe.” Nikki concludes with a call for the authors to visit the UK, praises them as a “brilliant light,” and expresses a budding desire to help others with PTSD, though she feels not yet ready to act.

Hi everyone, my name is Nikki and I am doing a book review of Dr. King's Deal With It: Living Well with PTSD. And I read it in a couple of days and it's an amazing book. And I have had CPTSD for most of my life and have A fairly similar story, unfortunately. This book is inspirational, and I can safely say that this book is going to be a companion to be by my side forever, I think. I read and have read books most of my adult life. This book injects my soul with hope, encouragement, and I feel more empowered even though every day is such a struggle. I feel having read John's words, they resonate in my mind whenever I feel an attack of triggers coming on or fear, intense fear of not being able to do something or achieve something. Even to go out somewhere. I have to say that John's raw and open honesty, together with his research and his lessons learned, show monumental courage and stamina that I admire very much. And Mel's input and her presence in the book was so comforting. And proved to me that my husband's value and role is in my journey too, whereas I've always struggled to see how he fit in— fitted in. It's very easy to read and to digest, and it can be fairly in your face, but only ever in a very positive way which benefits a CPTSD survivor or Someone who lives with someone with CPTSD or PTSD. So conclude— to conclude, I have been made to feel at home in John and Mel's company by reading this book, and that's my experience, and that we're part of the same tribe, long-lost members. Um, so John, Mel, please do come to the UK. It would be amazing to hear you speak and maybe even to meet you. Um, keep doing everything you're doing. Um, you are a brilliant light wherever you are, shining for people like me. Um, I feel like I want to help in some way too, but maybe I'm not quite ready. But you've really empowered me to think about what I can do to help people like myself and you and others. Anyway, so thank you so much. Thank you.
